on the 17th AUGUST. i am well excited!
Could've waited til i got back from holiday you punk!
This means i'm missing monotonix AND that fucking tank. BALLBAGS!
(hope it goes well though, good luck with getting people in)
donno why venues wouldn't want bands setting fire to the place :p
I'm pure jizzin to see them!!
they're playing Fibbers in York too.
Everyone's going mental abotu Monotonix - maybe I should go see them...
I should probably just have replied here! They're playing A Nation of Shopkeepers in Leeds on 21st August, tickets are £3.50
I don't know their music, but I'm very tempted from the hype their live shows are getting!
I am not missing this for FUCK ALL
that fucking tank on sunday.
monotonix on monday.
READING IS RIFF CITY.
Monotonix are fcking ace too.
but thatnkfully it's my first monday back after holiday!
whereabouts though? Oakford?
i'd rather it was at the Rising Sun or South Street though.
this is at south street! yeahhhhh!
I mean, recently, A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Lets Wrestle and Hjaltalin have played and That Fucking Tank, Slow Club, Jeffrey Lewis and now Monotonix all have shows booked.
Is Reading finally starting to show some interest in live music?
reading is still mostly apathetic.
cleckhuddersfax and beards are playing south st tonight. only three quid!
and see South Street full rather than with only about twenty people in, as happened when BLK JKS played there in April. Both gigs were a lot of fun though and the BLK JKS guys seemed very appreciative of the few people who has bothered to come down and were happy to chat for ages.
does some most of Reading but like thegoodmrbrodie says some of us are trying to fight it!
admittedly I have friends there and lived there for 6 years but still, good to see it get going once I've left.
but the show got pulled because the entire of the crowd would have been at ATP.....including me eventually. I'm pretty gutted. It would have been sooooo much fun. Even if it was just watching the venue staff move everything that wasn't nailed to the floor into a locked cupboard!
Should be a good one, and i have crystal stilts 2 days before.
can buy cheap tickets in advance from here!
advance tickets £5, £7 on the door
monotonix on monday.
yes rock music
That Fucking Tank play the Social on Aug 17. Fiver in on the door. Plus Brontide and Down I Go and Fair Ohs and Andy Fuck Buttons Hung DJ action and further DJ splendidness from Holy Roar. Do come?
HIJACK OF THREAD OVER. (SORRY.)
think thats what they call a win!?
but it's during Green Man. Gah. Their new album is fucking brilliant though, I never thought that their music would translate very well to record. Can't recommend it enough.
and...well...well, it divided the entire festival for the rest of the day into 'people that saw Monotonix' and 'people having Monotonix described to them'. They played for an hour (in a 30 minute set), and about halfway through they marched the drumkit and half the audience into De Montfort Hall's upper tier and proceeded to continue from there.
And then this happened: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1f59ITvOhw (the noise at 0:24 is from the next band on, Micachu & the Shapes attempting to set up actually on the stage while all around them hell was being raised)
Not unreasonably, everyone's getting home and shoving their videos of the set up immediately.
i led the procession upstairs with the floor tom (after taking the singer to the bar instead of the balcony first, and was part of the group carrying him on the tom earlier. im usually self conscious about even dancing at gigs, but that was just...like viral, you couldnt stop yourself.
i had thoughts about jumping into the crowd before he did it earlier on. the security had closed the doors and you couldnt get in at first.
I was in the balcony taking photos at that stage and had the idea once it became apparent where things were going of running out the front door of the hall and round through the main bar to see if I could get a good place in the procession back up. Brilliantly, in there I passed John Maybeshewill, who didn't see me but was engaged in conversation until put off by spotting cymbals and toms being carried and beaten past the perspex window in his peripheral vision.
I actually heard one of the security people as we were all on the way back down say to another "we don't have the insurance to let them set fire to the drumkit". MEDDLING BUREAUCRACY.
the most astonishing live performance I've ever witnessed.
the secuirity handled monotonix extremely well. i fault sorry for the asian girl at the door downstairs, she seemed to get hit a couple times by people rushing past (as in i was the first to bump into her then felt obliged to spend a good few minutes apologising later on in the day)
even though I was in the group of people who got locked in the venue by security as the drum party left. They were even better at Supersonic IMO, played for a full hour without slowing, including a run of Black Sabbath covers with audience participation.
call for tonight!
£7 on the door
first band 8.15
Not long now, few more hours of work, dinner, train, then RAWKKKKKKK.
and how long does it take to get to the train station?
i think i just came...
I have never seen a man move a cash register so quickly once the Monotonix mob set up the drums in the bar.
Someone, shirley, must have photos?
i didn't see anyone with a 'proper' camera which is a shame. we shall just have to remember it with our hearts and our minds.
still, it was fucking incredible. thank you to everyone for coming and having an awesome time!
I have ever seen a band in a toilet. Brilliant, never thought I'd get to see a gig like that in Reading!
Awesome work. Especially considering how tiny the venue was... Don't think I've sat on top of a toilet cubicle before, either.
I'm gonna put a couple more pics up at myspace.com/moderaterock shortly too.
I'm off to see them in Leeds tonight, sounds like it might be a memorable night!
