SCC have split?
when we played with them in May they told me they were going on hiatus, but still playing "occasional gigs" but they pulled out of my Our Band Could Be Your Life show next weekend, and one with William they were booked to play tomorrow, and it looks like they won't be playing any more :-(
I won't lie to you, my friend is in the band but their music is genuinely very good. They're making the most interesting stuff coming out of Kettering at the moment anyway, which isn't saying a lot because it's awful around here but oh well.
Last time I jagged them Jook liked their stuff, they have some influences listed that would appeal to people on here (Jesus And The Mary Chain, Sonic Youth, GY!BE, Joy Division, Tom Waits etc.)
let's say where my parents live counts as my town. *with descriptions torn from their myspace pages*
"Action Beat are an improv noise/no-wave band which is often made up of musicians who are available to play the gig on any particular date. We sound quite like early sonic youth, Glenn Branca, Swans and Rhys Chatham. We normally have at least 4 guitarists, a bassist and between 1 and 4 drummers."
"A noisy, clangy three piece. Guitar bass and drums, no effects. Tons of riffs. Short songs. Mostly funky, some weird rhythms. Three exciteable gentlemen. Members have also been in Dawn Chorus, Rampant Rabbit, Belt Motel, Hank Haint and Pete Taylors guitar orchestra."
"House of John Player is the solo project from Dean Spencer. Live shows can vary between folk acoustic sets to noisy electro-powerpop and more."
"Clandestine Riffage, Darkened Electric Improvisation, Astral Ambience"
and one with my own descriptions
Dark constantly shifting, technical metal.
also pretty damn good. bit of Don cab influence in there... sound like Bletchley is a pretty good place to see some local bands.
Yeah biased towards friends bands.
www.myspace.com/lightsgoblue . Two piece electro pop, not my thing, really good live, recently toured with Shikari.
www.myspace.com/therewerebears . Not exactly my town, these are my thing, and Run Dry the River is a great tune.
www.myspace.com/thedepths1 . Played my birthday party, legends.
My band haven't got a myspace, and nothing else local is really any good. Maybe another band called Burgundy.
dont know mysocae pages as at work but my favourites from Brighton are
Everyone to the Anderson
from my parents hometown (southampton)
The Scarlet Letter Union
Plat Du Jour
worryingly there are loads more great bands currently in southampton winchester portsmouth area than Brighton.
These are the only ones I've seen whose records I would buy:
