90s revival starts... now!
Dunno if any of you saw this http://ultragrrrl.blogspot.com/2009/07/third-eye-blind-explained.html but it got me thinking back to an idea I had of doing a review of the 90s before doing one of the noughties (to set some parameters and establish a watermark with the previous decade). Might just do a 90s theme week, what do you think? And who would you want interviewed/re-appraised? Ice T?
I started a (a far from definitive) Spotify playlist of 90s albums

crikey, where to start!?!?!
You'd have to section it off somehow - but how? Obviously you have your focal points of madchester/rave/grunge/britpop/pop punk/ which have all had their rehashes and revivals and whatever the hell happened at the arse end of the decade, I wasn't paying much attention, but surely so much more was going on under the radar it's so hard to put into context? The early 90's remains for me one of the most exciting times of music just for the sheer wealth of great music that john peel was playing and watching how it bleeded into evening session and chart success (will we ever hear a song like sonic youth's 100% getting mainstream radioplay?), there's still stuff from that era I'm hearing for the first time and being pleasantly stunned by.
Make sure you get some cheap shots in about the new wave of new wave and romo and I'll be happy :D
Isn't it a bit soon for a 90s revival?
Give it a year and you'll be want to do 00's look back.
no spotify at work. :(
what are the albums?
Nirvana fall into #2, surely?
didn't it seem
like the 90s has more of a sense of mortality? maybe it's all the suicides/accidental deaths of stars shining at their brightest but there was something peculiar about the feeling in the air when you look back. yeah there have been some deaths this decade (most notably for me Elliott Smith) but not on the same indie-rock-world-is-stunned kinda level or am i wrong?
The playlist should consist mostly of Yo La Tengo and the Jesus Lizard.
I kicked this revival off MONTHS ago!
see here. this is hw you do the 90's, y'all.

I honestly don't remember Third Eye Blind at all.
Third Eye Foundation, yes, but Third Eye Blind?
I know the name, obviously, but they've never registered with me at all.
