VELVET UNDERGROUND - some kinda love. yo
There's about a million bass guitar riffs I could listen to. Most of Parliament/Funkadelic. Cosmic Slop, Unfunky UFO, and Give Up The Funk spring to mind instantly.
As for geetar 'proper', I guess Led Zep's Heartbreaker is the first I think about. Back In Black is closely following.
Yeah, these are all slightly cliche'd, but who cares. They're riff-tastic.
The Smiths - What Difference Does It Make
The Landlord is Dead
Duhduhduhduh, DUH! Duhduhduhduh, DUH!

That section also features some of the most badass tambourine in metal history.
That part in Pig Destroyer's Towering Flesh when JR screams POISONOUS AND OBSCEEEEEEEENEEEEEE!!!!! is pretty badass too.
The verse riff of the recent Polvo track Beggars Bowl also qualifies in this category.
Pretty much anything by the B-52s has amazing riffs.
Rolling Stones – Brown Sugar
Pink Floyd – Interstellar Overdrive / Lucifer Sam
Deerhoof have loads
Oceansize - One Out Of None
Oceansize - One Day All This Could Be Yours
RIVAL SCHOOLS - USED FOR GLUE ( best ever riff in the world)
Muse - Citizen Erased
. . . the start of 'Hennings Favourite' by Johnny Foreigner - when everything kicks in at 0:21 and Alexei does some kick ass tapping. I'm gay for his guitar skills, the swine!
Sweet Jane by the Velvet Underground.
Or that saucy one in the middle 8 of 'Soopa Scoopa.'
Or just anything of Sky Valley.
Also off the top of my head:
Soapmakers - Clutch
Electric - Boris
Indolence - Solace
The Hawk - Melvins
Homage to the Betrayed - Spiritual Beggars
revolve by the melvins
touch me i'm sick by mudhoney
off the top of my head
