Can anybody think of anyone whom releases more stuff than Merzbow? As that's the only example I can think of.
little in the way of quality control though.
The Skaters duo are fairly prolific. Three or four new Spencer Clark albums out now!
some hefty discographies right there
solo + Nadja + other collaboration comes to a fair few.
Andrew Broder (of Fog lack-of-fame) released 10 [free] albums in the first four months of this year:
V/VM was possibly the most prolific artist of 2006, with 602 tracks to his name (again, all free):
With Merzbow the number of releases is part of the point of the whole project. He takes his name from the sculpture thingy 'Merz-bau' - 'Rubbish-house' which was an art thing where gradually every room in a house was filled to the ceiling with detritus; the idea of an avalance of material engulfing the viewer/listener is kind of the point in both projects.
Oh and apparently he releases stuff on loads of different labels/formats and stuff to make the idea of being a Merzbow 'completist' hellishly problematic, acting against the normal distribution/comsumption of music in the same way that 'noise' acts against the normal consumption of 'music'.
