Wedding First Dance
I am in need of help for suggestions for a first dance at a wedding. I don’t want my marriage to get off on the wrong foot (read. Elton John, Robbie Williams, Aerosmith) and have been looking through my music collecation but nothing is really coming to mind . Needs to be something romantic without being schmaltzy, something that wont upset the old schools, tough help!

it should be something you can actually properly dance to
therefore i suggest...
talking heads - naive melody
uh oh, love comes to town
would be better.
fabulous muscles (mama black widow version)
by xiu xiu
^but the you'd actually BE Traynor
My Dream Girl Don't Exist
Jeff Mangum
That's what I have been threatening my girlfriend with.
My baby just cares for me - Nina Simone
Or World of Shit by Nailbomb
In the aeroplane over the sea
thats a good one as I think it is a waltz
which would be good for an old time traditional wedding type thing
The proclaimers - sunshine on leith

although if you're in scotland it might have too footbally connotations.
'Into My Arms' Nick Cave
very romantic lyrics and nice slow tempo for shuffling around the room to.
Done.
I had that for my wedding
Brilliant song but it last's ages. So i say go for something quick like Scum by naplam death
INTO MY ARMS IS RELIGIOUS THO
I couldn't have it.
My first dance was AM 180 by Grandaddy.
OH YEAH.
And it wasn't random or anything...
...if you look at the words, it's quite lovely...
Don’t change your name
Keep it the same
For fear I may lose you again
I know you won't
It's just that I
Am unorganized
And I want to find you
When something good happens
If you come down
We'll go to town
I haven't been there for years
But I’d be fine
Wasting our time
Not doing anything here
Just doing nothing
We’ll sit for days
And talk about things
Important to us like whatever
We'll defuse bombs
And walk marathons
And take on whatever, together
That's why you played it last at ATP....
it all fits into place....
btw sunbakedsnowcave
on a totally unrelated topic I listened to 'four women' track today based on what you said in that songs of 2009 thread...it's soooooo good.
I still haven't found what I'm looking for
appreciative lol
Radiohead- Creep
If'n I ever get married, the first dance will be to 'Loverman' by Nick Cave.
It'd be good 'cause you can start off with a mid-tempo kind of acceptable dance, but when the chorus kicks in, you can tear at each others clothes, grind on the floor, bite each other... It would be sick.
God Only Knows
Beach Boys
"I may not always love you..."
not a great start
I see a darkness
bonnie prince. there really are no other options.
i say a little prayer - aretha
Super Furry Animals - Fire in my heart
^^^^^^
I know someone whose first dance was to that song. Where you at the same wedding?
If it was in Wales maybe..
Think i fell asleep fairly early on in the corner, music reverted to typical wedding fayre thereafter.
Nah...
This one was just outside Biggleswade.
This is a really good suggestion!
Guided by Voices - Awful Bliss
bjork 'unison'
jeff buckley 'everybody here wants you'
I'm repeatedly told that it wouldn't work
but I still think 'Your Hand In Mine' by Explosions in the Sky would be a brilliant song for the first dance.
It wouldn't work at all
but it'd be brilliant to watch - what would happen when the smashing drums and distortion comes in at the end?
there's only a little bit of distortion in 'Your Hand In Mine'
it's no 'Greet Death'.
alternatively I'd pick'You Sure Look Swell' by Sondre Lerche and the Faces Down Quartet.
we had 'come together'
by Primal scream.
Unfortunately, there was neither much coming nor togetherness after the wedding.
'Kiss Me Where It Smells Funny' - Bloodhound Gang
I DJ'ed at a mate's wedding
and they chose 'Where Do You Go To (My Lovely)" by Peter Sarstedt
It worked well (if the couple can waltz!)
Being a married man..
I was wed last October and first dance was to Pretty Thing by Bo Diddley.
Great song, apt lyrics - all you need.
Surely..
I Only Have Eyes For You by The Flamingos. It's just a lovely, lovely song..
If it wasn't for the opening verse, I'd say 'Be Sweet' by Afghan Whigs
Maybe Debonair instead.
i'm having babe you turn me on by nick cave (wife permitting)
the soft sweet intro and then....'..and the other down your panties'
that'll raise eyebrows
either that or coffee and cigarettes by otis redding
Morrissey - you're the one for me fatty
Actually, I can't get married until I work out what Ryan Adams song I would have at every stage of the event.
Which is a handy excuse.
New noise
Just for looks on faces
Mountain Goats - Southwood Plantation Road
Nick Cave is a good suggestion. Also Neil Young - Heart of Gold
*Mountain Goats - No Children
I assume everyone's already seen this about a million times

'Get An Ugly Girl To Marry You'
If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life,
Never make a pretty woman your wife.
So from my personal point of view,
Get an ugly girl to marry you.
A pretty woman makes her husband look small,
And very often causes his downfall.
As soon as he marries her, then she starts,
To do the things that will break his heart.
But if you make an ugly woman your wife,
You'll be happy for the rest of your life.
An ugly woman cooks meals all the time,
She'll always give you peace of mind.
Don't let your friends say you have no taste,
Go ahead and marry anyway.
Her face is ugly, her eyes don't match.
Take it from me, she's a better catch.
Say, man?
Hey baby!
I saw your wife the other day.
Yeah?
Yeah, and she's sure is ugly. Ha!
Yeah, she's ugly, but she sure can cook, baby!
Yeah, alright.
Unfortunately, she has acne.
That's a shame, baby.
Yeah, baby.
