As Lyle says the "superior band" but is the questionable part. It's tough. The Coral released one of the best debuts of this decade but have never really followed it up whereas I'd argue the Arctic Monkeys (or perhaps just the boy Turner) have got more potential than pretty much any mainstream band at the moment but, 505 aside, you always feel the could be better than the are. So how do you choose?
...but then I'm not an artic monkeys fan, BUT I think although they lack anything else they are pretty damn good at writing, so yeah I'm inclined to disagree with the statement.
Anyday. Yes they have gone very slow and dull but the debut, M&M and Nightfreaks we're superb albums crammed with ideas and a great combination of influences.
I like the arctic monkeys but as time goes on I'm starting to see through them more and more
to like Arctic Monkeys, but every time one of their songs comes on I'm struck again by the lyrics and the conviction of the delivery. They're not a "nice" listen, but they're bloody good at what they're doing.
The Coral to me always sounded like a kind of scouse SFA, which is a compliment and also not. Like SFA there's only a few songs where I really feel I'm connecting with them. Somehow they're a band I find it a lot easier to admire than to love.
So, overall, apples and oranges are both still nice.
a superior band ?
Yes they have
Twice, in fact. Thrice, come August.
They have, but they've never written a Grey Harpoon.
Grey Harpoon
the best song Dr. Dre never produced.
ditto
awesome track!
i'd agree with that
me too
He's not a guy I enjoy agreeing with but I agree with him, possibly.

Don't think they're comparable in the slightest.
The Coral are a great band
and i think the arctic monkeys are massively overrated
compare the ideas and diversity on the coral's debut to that of arctic monkeys - no comparsion
sure the coral got a bit dull as they went on, but at least every song wasn't a snarky joyless 'witty' series of observations
the coral are dreadful
the coral are terrible!!

But yeah, massively Overrated I agree.

arctic monkeys are as appealing as drinking stale beer...
...in which your grandad has just washed his feet.
Christ, that last Coral album was one of the dullest things i've ever heard.
I'm ten years too old
