i.e. dfa type stuff
look at this: http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4187279
just look at all the artists in the list and see which ones you like. Most are associated with the DFA indie dance kinda seen.
but if you want some indie friendly dance music with that space disco / italo feel to it you cant go far wrong with Lindstrom or Sally Shapiro, maybe even a bit of Air France.
and also no way down. i'll check out sally shapiro. i do love space disco type stuff... I would agree that dfa is not quite as prolific nowadays but i think they still put out some great stuff. i really did love the hercules and love affair record
but most of it left me cold. Cut Copy was produced by one of DFA aswell and I couldn't get into that at all.
spacey, good vibe disco
its an incredible 12" with a M.A.N.D.Y. Remix on the flip I used to cane that track back in like 2005.
of me mixin that and a minimal Adem Bayer track for about 10 mins, in the mix. before dropping it into an old old acid track it sounded so good man. No idea what the acid track was my step bro gave me it and its white label...
get from here we go sublime, not yesterday and today. yesterday and today is so ropey
The new Freeland album is quite good, too. Well, the first track is.
on the player...
Prefer the original, tbh. It features Motley Crue's drummer (y)
I always had a soft spot for The Juan Maclean on DFA, he dropped one this year. I think I'm going to have to say This Bliss by Pantha Du Prince as well as I've been late on the uptake with it and put it on today, it blew me away.
they're always skirting the line between awesome and cheesy, still not quite sure if i love or hate happy house. this bliss is indeed incredible, he did a new 12" recently which is pretty rad. Can we hijack this thread into one big dance music jam?
I kinda like Happy House but it was the first album of his that I enjoyed quite a bit at the time. It had a really mad block party feel to it, like hip-hop block party feel but channelled through deep punky house.
just listen to the best of 08 podcast from jan, that would no doubt give you some stuff to find, the show with Henrik Schwarz and Ame is brilliant, the recent Rub 'n' Tug show was also a belter
I think the last thing they released that I really liked was Carl Carig's Delia Gonzales & Gavin Russom remix. Actually I did love the Hercules & the Love Affair album so I don't know what i'm talking about.
Anyways Alexander Robotnik did an awesome mix for FACT. His Problem D'Amour is like my favourite ever disco track. Download here:
Of the 'nu' disco lot i've always liked Metro Area best but I guess they've never been as trendy as the DFA type stuff.
All of the above are absolutely worth checking out - also Hessle Audio (Untold, Ramadanman, Pangaea).
my cousin let me listen to the new Black Eyed Peas and you can for sure dance to that! Another band I like would be Malbec... Their music might be a little harder to get a hold of..but if you go to this site http://cli.gs/VZmvrM you can download 5 EPs for Free...who can beat free? THEY ARE AWESOME!
