I used to think that Noel was alright, but this is farcical. If they're going to come on stage so fucked that they offer the crowd back the £3 million then they should be grateful that only 20,000 took it up.
Oasis are a piss poor example of a band that should have stopped a long, long time ago.
"come on stage so fucked"
Hardly Noel's fault the power blew is it?
...that they must have been pissed/on something to come back on and be so short sited as to offer the sort of crowd that they attract their money back. It was obvious loads were going to take it! I mean look at that idiot jumping up and down at the front clapping!
I'm not an Oasis fan but there are plenty of piss poor bands out there that haven't recorded anything nearly as good as Definitely Maybe and never will.
Why should a band (one who can sell out stadiums) just stop because you apparently don't like them?
If it's a "universally agreed" masterpiece as you state that's a pretty good argument that it's not "shite". I believe however that it's only "pretty good".
"b) It was 15 fucking years ago anyway..."
Nothing can be worth listening to if it's 15 years old...
Tell me, when did they last release something?
(Btw, I love MBV and am far from an ardent Oasis supporter)
Whilst I'm not a fan of any of their recent material, they seem to be relevant to the hundreds of thousands of people that attend the stadiums they play and who put all their albums to number 1. That must make them worth something whether you like them or not.
they should have stopped long ago. and then cited a 15-year old album seemingly to back it up. which is illogical
but my point regarding Definitely Maybe was in response to the exaggeration of them being "piss poor example of a band" not as justification to them carrying on and living off that record.
What I haven't read is a decent reason why they should stop?
a difference of opinion is always going to be subjective.
I think they should stop so I wouldn't have to read anymore fucking threads about them.
...should have made that a bit clearer - I do actually like bits of Definitely Maybe and What's The Story but everytime I read stuff like this it seems embarassing and it detracts from the merits of those records.
offering a refund pretty decent, honouring it, calling fans 'cheeky' is hardly harsh
Noel Gallagher said "if I had my way, Franz Ferdinand wouldn't have been on the bill at Glastonbury".
Irrespective of whether you like Franz or not (I do), this is a band that have been given the Pyramid Stage headline slot twice now and blown it spectacularly on both occasions. What an absolute prick.
no matter what anyone says. I was too busy watching Massive Attack in the dance tent the first time so i can't comment but in 2004 they were ace.
"Organisers had been planning for the gig for six months and said the event was the biggest at Heaton Park since the Pope's visit in 1982."
obviously he comes across as kind of self interested and regretful of what was basically an attempt at a noble gesture, but c'mon, it was THREE MILLION QUID.
Doesn't change fact Oasis' music is pisspoor and it's pretty much impossible to think of another band who'd so cravenly live off their first two records seven albums down the line - if they had any faith in their own music they'd cut the old tracks right down and take the hit of dropping a venue size or two. But then again you know they know that. Which is likable.
