I reckon it's between:
Green Man http://www.thegreenmanfestival.co.uk
La Route Du Rock www.laroutedurock.com/pages/english.htm
And I was gonna say Latitude but there are only 5 or 6 good bands on there.
What d'you reckon?
Gang Gang Dance
John + Jehn
and that's not even fully announced!
I didn't even get to see half the bands I wanted to see.
It's quite clearly hands down Primavera. I don't understand how anyone could think otherwise.
So easily, nothings going to come anywhere near close.
As it seems to every year. I thought the first ATP lineup was pretty mad good as well.
Supersonic is in with a shout maybe, really varied and interesting. Unfortunately not to my mind as good as last year's, which was totally stellar, and 100% the lineup of 2008.
One of these days I'll go, one of these days.
I didn't know alot of the bands before booking up.
But some investigtion and a few hours listening has made me realise how great it is.
so it's the best.
Primavera had a fantastic lineup though.
wish i'd gone sooo much.
Kraftwerk = MAGIC.
mostly cos I'd like to be in a place called Saint-Malo. They both look decent enough.
But if I made the transatlantic trip for any festival, it'd be Primavera.
My favourite French singer Dominique A is playing as well. He is incredible. Him and Deerhunter will make the festival for me but I'm looking forward to MBV, Crystal Stilts, Bill Callahan, Papercuts, Tortoise and Peaches too.
and one day I will get it together enough to go!
Bestival will be cool though (my first one) and Primavera always boasts a fine line up.
for me. Can't wait. Okkervil River, Shearwater, Peter Broderick, Fleet Foxes, Vetiver, Explosions In The Sky, The Acorn, Archie Bronson Outfit, Blitzen Trapper, The Boy Least Likely To, Brakes, The Broken Family Band, Loney Dear, The Low Anthem, The Dodos, Magnolia Electric Co.
(but then, that's the one I'm going to)
MBV, Beirut, Grizzly Bear, Kraftwerk, dEUS (twice), Phoenix, Fever Ray
I drunkenly decided I was going when I saw a poster for it at Primavera.... I have since realised i'm almost bankrupt and can't really take holidays during august.

Nowhere near the quality in Line-up as some of these.
this year, it seemed like pretty much every decent alternative/rock act that was touring this year played it.
La Route Du Rock looks pretty good, and Supersonic looks pretty ace too I still think 2007 was one of the best years for the festival though what with Monarch, Wolf Eyes, Sunn O))) and Mogwai.
but I could do with recommendations.
Bands that I've seen/know/like:
Animal Collective, Jarvis Cocker, Bon Iver, British Sea Power, Grizzly Bear, Gang Gang Dance, Errors, Emmy The Great, Yellow Moon Band, Dent May, Peggy Sue, Beth Jeans Houghton
Bands I've not seen & like:
Wooden Shjips, Four Tet, Noah And The Whale, Peter Broderick, Wave Machines
Bands I either don't know, or barely know them at all:
Wilco, Roky Erickson, Dirty Three, Andrew Bird, Vetiver, Rodriguez, Beyond the Wizards Sleeve (Feat. Erol Alkan & Richard Norris), The Amorphous Androgynous (AKA Future Sound Of London), Camera Obscura, The Fence Collective present - Rozi Plain, The Three Craws, Pictish Trail, Beach House, The Aliens, DJhistory (AKA Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton), Idjut Boys, Scott Matthews, Michael Cook, James Yuill, Pivot, The Phantom Band, Megson, The Leisure Society, Joe Gideon & The Shark, Trembling Bells, Zun Zun Egui, Broken Records, Golden Animals, Euros Childs, Sibrydion, Stornoway, Blue Roses, The Gentle Good, The Strange Boys, Its A Buffalo, Mary Hampton, She Keeps Bees, 6 Day Riot, JC Carroll, Sound Carriers, Diagonal (*), Richard James, 9Bach, Magic Arm, Player Piano, Martin Carr, Erland & The Carnival, Unicorn Kid, Cate Le Bon, Swanton Bombs, Bird Engine, Right Hand Left Hand, Sweet Baboo, Meilir Tomos, Dollboy, No Thee No Ess, Love Stop Repeat, Ruby Samba, Le B and Pagan Wanderer Lu.
(*) I've seen a different Diagonal, at Stag & Dagger - I think?
It goes without saying that i will be checking out Wilco, but I could do with some pointers on the others.
Thanks - anyone!
Beyond the wizards sleeve - Erol alkans more disco/krautrock style dj sets, should be a lot of fun dancing times if you're in the mood for it.
Pivot - Australian band on Warp. Kind of battle's esque, math rocky danceable stuff... I think they should be a lot of fun live.
Beach House - Really beautiful dream pop/shoegaze stuff with a great female singer and lots of warm organs.
Dirty Three are worth a look as well, but I've never really listened to them beyond the Low split.
I do have one song of theirs.
I'll check out all these. Thanks!
Dancing at festivals, oh Yes, I'm up for that!
The Phantom Band: Got into these a couple of weeks ago after hearing them on the radio. Really good, quite percussive at times, I reckon they'd be good live.
The Leisure Society: Polished, melancholy pop, not sure why they haven't sold 1,000,000 albums to be honest. Kinda music I could give to my mother and she'd like, but in a good way.
Camera Obscura: On my list of bands to see before I die, return to form with their latest album.
Magic Arm: Only heard them on radio a few times, should go and see them live as they're local.
Sweet Baboo: Again, only heard on Marc Riley's 6music show. And only one song called Tom Waits Rip Off. Very heartfelt singer/songwriter.
Euros Childs: used to be singer with Gorkys, seems to be friends with a lot of other welsh bands. Always got time for him.
Vetiver: Awesome. One of my favourite new (to me) bands of last 12 months. Even saw them live (well stood there while they played, couldn't see shit) in Chorlton.
Good luck with the rest.
Are you going to a festivals yourself?
Plus also, my ability to plan ahead isn't great.
So no. But now you've posted all those bands I wish I was.
We could hang out together, not that I know you, but hell you go to so many gigs that I do, we must know each other by sight. I've already offered a lift to a couple of friends, so I think my cars going to be a bit full what with camping stuff, but I might be able to get a roof thingy.
The same goes for Bestival, although I can't offer transport for that one.
