have you seen this? have you heard about this?
just need to get rid of Sumner and we've got a decent band on our hands
You know those stories where they invent a time machine and someone goes back and kills Hitler only to find that the future turns out shit anyway?
I think someone must have tried this on Ian Curtis...
up to and including Crystal anyway.
agreed, there was also some brilliant tunes on that album (get ready)
the most inexplicably maligned band of all time
They did give it a good go though trying to not just do the same stuff as they'd done with curtis, as alot of bands are guilty of carrying on as a shell of themselves.
bit patronising,no? they're a seminal, massively influential band in their own right, joy division doesn't even need to come into it. just as one example, how many tunes have sampled blue monday or used it as a blueprint? listen to the original 12" mix of temptation, it's a wondrous explosion of boundless creativity
for every temptation, blue monday, bizarre love triangle there's stuff like world in motion, that just makes me cringe everytime I hear it.
It does have to be said though that Regret is a brilliant track.
don't be an indie Snob.
i like world in motion too. and i'm irish
i had this song on a mix CD that somehow ended up on the stereo at a party once. when it started to play, everyone started yelling at me. "seriously, what is this?" oh, new order.
i do adore new order -- even get ready and some stuff off of waiting for the siren's call.
maybe johnny marr will leave the cribs and we can have an electronic reunion? :)
So I am truly alone in thinking Get Ready is their best (with Technique so close in second place that it feels petty to pit them against one another)?
but i do truly love "get ready:" crystal, rock the shack, someone like you, vicious streak...i could go on. but, for me, nothing tops their earlier albums. i'm just so impressed as to how so many songs that they released in the early and mid 80's still sound as fresh today as they did then.
crystal and 5 8 6 are 2 of my all-time favorite songs.
okay, end new order fan girl rant!
i think it's a good album but 'power, corruption and lies', 'technique' and 'lowlife' are their 3 best albums. Best album is 'P,C,&L' but I find myself listening to 'Technique' more often.
but there's some utter tosh on it, namely rock the shack and slow jam. and some of the lyrics are awful even by sumner's standards -
the sea was very rough
it made me feel sick
but i like that kind of stuff
it beats arithmetic
Jesus Christ. I think this is going to make ME kill myself. Note that I love New Order, but I love New Order's... first 3-4 albums. They can go away, and just let me listen to "Age of Consent" on repeat and giggle.
i can't even imagine alex james getting on with them. he just seems so southern (yes, i know i'm being racist)
