wtf?
and Witch! J Mascis-a-go-go!
I reeeeeeally want Dino Jr though. I've never seen them!
excuse my ignorance

doomy rock band
featuring J on drums :-)
use the internet cumface
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch_(band)
I'm lazy
thanks for the link
'I reeeeeeally want Dino Jr'
get over it
the pastels!!!!
YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!!!!
Oh my word ATP you have surprised AND delighted me.
YES!
I went to one of the fog gigs
in 2001-ish? Mark Eitzel joned them onstage. it was WONDERFUL
i've never seen them play obv
but the albums are soooooooooooooooooooo dull. it's like they may as well not exist, they're so lifeless.
you need to re-listen
More Light is a tremendous record
^
I was hoping actually hoping they would play. free so free is a bit dull but more light is an amazing album, its nice to hear lighter songs stripped of some of the murk, same day would be in my top 3 mascis songs, up there with any of the post lou dinosaur albums.
I saw J mascis and the fog 3 or 4 times back in the day, J, ron ashton, mike watt, and some drummer, and I probably enjoyed them more than the dinosaur jr reunion to be honest (although it could have been because it was at the height of my dinosaur jr obsession), no idea who will be in the fog but it will make a nice change
More Light
is a winner
Great tour that
Loud and amazing. With bonus Eitzel. Be great if Mr Shields could sneak him over in time for Christmas. It's a crime he's never graced an ATP.
yeah that would be great (I was at that Shepherds Bush gig too)
but I'm not sure Shields is a fan (I seem to remember him being quite uncomplimentary in an interview about their collaboration of that Offbeat compilation)
was that the time the primal scream singer beat a member of the audience with a mic stand?
yeah at Shepherd's Bush
not so cool that. And if it's such a crime to shout annoying stuff and skip about taking the piss during shows, then you'd think it would be Gillespie who would get the beating.
I think it was someone from dis's brother at the recieving end
I didnt think I could even have a lower opinion of bobby gillespie but he proved me wrong
Nob-by Gillespie more like
Really hoping that Shieldsy doesn't drag them out for Xmas ATP.
THE PASTELS!
want so much.
The Pastels
is very exciting news
pastels
sweeeeeeeeeeeet
WITCH!!!
Rad.
More Light Kills
Same Day! Back Before you Go! More Light!
And Witch. WITCH!
Thank you ATPeople. Insanely happy this afternoon. What chance a Mike Watt version of the Fog I wonder?
Any news on ATP NY additions Jamie?
Much obliged...
sorry not sure on that, hopefully not too much longer
another great round of additions
predictable yet wonderful. im very happy with J.Mascis&Fog/Witch over Dinosaur Jr too
So far...
...I'll probably be giving my ticket for this up. I spend a fortune when I'm down there and a small fortune getting there and spending that to see a fair few bands I've seen before (at least two of which so far at ATP), some I've no interest in seeing and only one or two that genuinely interest me sounds like a bit of a bum deal. So far...
oooow
get you
Yeah,
i just read my most recent bank statement. Mind you I've got Supersonic to enjoy in July so it's all good really.
great news
lineup looking tasty so far
Thanks for the added Mascis
so where am I starting with the Pastels indie people?
Aargh, Lily and APTBS!
Still probably not gonna tempt me though...
Very happy
with these additions.
Do I like Lilys?
I can't remember...
Yes
Yes you do.
Sittin' Pretty maybe?
It's got 'Nothing to be Done' on which I'm saying is 'the one'.
they don't really play
errr
not sure what happened to my replies...didn't press return. Anyway, The Pastels hardly play old stuff (Truck Train/Nothing to be Done era). Seen them loads of times...mostly dreadful. The ICA and Mary Chain supports were good but they had members of Teenage Fanclub in the band then. Don't get excited about them!
A lot of their stuff is on Spotify
So I'd probably suggest the Truckload of Trouble compilation for the earlier, more shambling stuff, and Mobile Safari for a slightly more polished example of their stuff (they were helped out on that one by Teenage Fanclub...)
Nice, cheers
Truckload of Trouble has just pushed Sonic Youth into next month's eMusic downloads (or possibly never). I'm liking this much more than I thought I would. I never ventured beyond the remix album which, though superb, is hardly representitive of their work.
Suck On
or Up For A Bit are my favourites, although Sittin' Pretty is a damn fine record too.
tr-tr-truck
tr-tr-trucker man
The Pastels rarely old stuff.
Q. Is it possible to get to this w/o being in a big group
Am back in the country for Xmas, it's less than an hour away from home and went to go but is there any option to get single tickets + shared accomodation or do I have to wait until last minute when random people decide they can't/don't want to go and sell their ticket?
you'd have to wait until last minute on this one i think
Ok, that sucks a bit but will keep fingers crossed
Alternately if any media/publications etc wants it photographed this is what I did at Mt Buller in January http://www.notaphoto.com/tag/atp
theres always people looking to sell
though this one might be a bit more booked up than the vs the fans one.
plus, anyone seen this line-up?
http://www.laroutedurock.com/
MBV headlining too. great line-up, quite diverse.
Hmmm
Would anyone mind if I swapped the line-ups around? This one's actually looking half-decent.
not really
going to both (Y)
La Route Du Rock
is always consistantly good. I've only been to the Cure one ages ago though. It was pretty awesome though, P&O did a special deal on ferries to the event so the entire ferry was full of people going to the festy which was pretty cool.
bit whatevs if
you ask me. (No one did I know but...)
How many bands
in total are there usually at ATP?
41
I'm currently listening to a J Mascis & The Fog album on that there Spotify.
It's fucking brilliant. That really is all.
Okay I'm going to get shouted down for this
But the first six bands were far and away the best thus far. I bought tickets, and it'll be my first ATP, but nothing so far has made me really overjoyed to be going. Compared to Latitude, which I decided to forgo this year because I could only afford one, the waves of additions have dampened my enthusiasm rather than heightened it.
Is there any chance of Public Enemy anymore? Or, to be more constructive, can anyone suggest me where to start with some of the more obscure bands on the line-up to help me get into it?
If it makes you feel any better
I think it peaked with the curator before a death-defying plummet.
I wouldn't say it's currently better or worse than any other ATP lineup tbh
I'm excited about MBV but was maybe hoping for some more Arkestra-style weirdness (the Patton/Melvins for me was the best lineup they've ever had). Doesn't matter, with the exception of maybe the Slint one I don't think ATP have put together a bad festival.
I'd agree the line-up
is a little underwhelming so far (especially considering it's a Nightmare Before Xmas), but it's ATP, so it'll be awesome regardless. The rumoured additions of The Fall and Public Enemy would be great though.
fyi lineup of The Fog
is gonna be Mr Mascis, Dave Schools (Widespread Panic) & Kyle Spence (Harvey Milk)
^
mmm Kyle Spence.
Just get Harvey Milk back as well...
fyi lineup of The Fog
is gonna be Mr Mascis, Dave Schools (Widespread Panic) & Kyle Spence (Harvey Milk)
Looking good Jamie
Any more announcements in the coming week?
hopefully more bands soon, we were hoping tomorrow
but might be delayed a little bit longer to properly lock some things in. you know the drill.
in other news:
6 berths now completely sold out. All that's left are a very small amount of 4 berths spread over See, WGT and Gigantic, and a handful of 7 berths that were production holds on WGT.
Ticket links at atpfestival.com ;-)
by the way
cool interview here about atp and the film:
http://www.state.ie/atp-the-film-feature-and-giveaway/
re: The film premier in Edinburgh
The band chosen to play can't be Mogwai because didn't Field Day people say that Mogawai at their fest was the bands only summer UK show?
So who could it be?
But
they later corrected that to "only English Summer festival show".
I'm sure I've heard somewhere that the guest is a past curator. Add to that the fact that they're Scottish, and it has to be Mogwai.
It was only 'English Summer Festival Show'
and Stuart Braithwaite has been promoting it on Twitter so I'm 99% sure that it will be Mogwai at the Edinburgh premiere.
