8 Question Survey: Which sites/networks/services other than DiS do you use?
Hi All,
We're looking at things people do elsewhere online. We'd like to know what things you do online that are useful, and that might be even more useful if that fell under the DiS umbrella (especially to create charts of what's popular with DiSsers). So, essentially, we're curious what other sites and services people use. The idea is that we'll pull in as much stuff that you do elsewhere, onto DiS, to save you having to go elsewhere. And also adding useful 'apps'
Ideally, this will range from feeds of content from the web (most likely starting with music news via Gigulate.com, so that you can react to news and also find the latest news on artist profiles), to content you've posted elsewhere appearing on your profile, to managing your calendars (we should have the DiS and Last.fm databases entwined quite soon, which'll do all sorts of useful things)
Basically we wanna make things as easy for you as possible to manage what you do online, as well as share with other users STUFFZ WOT IS GUD!
So... (answer any/all that you can - feel free to share links to your profiles... this might just be a case of sharing your bookmarks or in firefox your 'most visited')
1. Where do you buy / listen to music? Spotify, HMV, Amazon, eMusic, 7Digital, we7, Napster, Hype Machine, MySpace, Last.fm, Blip.fm, Youtube, Muzu.tv, Lala, iMeem, Deezer....? Would you like to easily share your favourite tracks and actions on your DiS profile? (I'm thinking it'd be great to have a feed of what DiSsers are listening to, which tracks/vids they've favourited, etc)
http://hypem.com/#/seaninsound
http://blip.fm/seaninsound
http://www.last.fm/user/drownedinsound
http://www.myspace.com/disboy
2. Where do you document/share your reactions to music, life and the like? Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, Blogspot, Wordpress, Livejournal, Musebin, Amazon User Reviews, Stumbleupon, Friendfeed, Orkut, Bebo, MySpace, Flickr....? (Do you use any sites to post to all of these or read all of these?) Would you like the ability to easily write your own reviews, rate records out of 10 and link to your reviews alongside DiS content?
http://seaninsound.blogspot.com
3. How do you organize what gigs you're going to? Do you care about inviting friends to the same gigs? (I have a theory that it's only promoters and bands who invite people to gigs) Facebook, Songkick, Last.fm, Yahoo events, google calendar, iCal...?
http://songkick.com/users/seaninsound
4. Do you use anything to share/show off your record collection/library online? Last.fm quilts seem to be the most obvious for this. Seeing if Amazon can do a list of stuff you own, etc.
5. Do you use an RSS reader? Do you keep uptodate with feeds of websites via Twitter? Do you bookmark webpages online to remember to read them elsewhere? (we're thinking of adding our own thing thing so you can add threads and articles to your profile to favourite/remember to follow)
6. If you're looking up info about acts, do you use anything other than Wikipedia and Last.fm? Maybe MySpace or just google for bands official website?
7. Lastly, other than music, what are the main things you do online? Football, porn, lolcats, tech news, politics, read news on Guardian, etc...?
Thank you,
Sean

2. used to be myspace. now maybe a few words on facebook or twitter. or perhaps in my blog (it's not a music blog). yes in theory it'd be good to be able to write my own reviews on here, though i'm not sure how much i'd actually do it.

4. only last.fm
5. no
6. last.fm, wiki, band page, myspace. it depends.

What happened to the social board's spirit of pedantry?
"ask a question?"
job done.
Hello
1. Spotify and the radio (an actual radio). I like buying vinyl of albums I really like otherwise it’s a bit of a grey area how I fill up my iTunes. I like a nice browse in a proper record shop but probably buy CDs mainly from play.com. I resent paying HMV over the odds to go into their warehouses of despair and upselling and those t-shirts they make staff wear...oh, those awful t-shirts. Most of my friends feel the same way, poor old The High Street, no wonder it's closing down. As we get older and make more money to spend on tat they lose our trade to The Internets.
2. I think most of my reactions to music are best kept to myself to mull over, reflect and mature over time. I may occasionally post a comment here but seems to me like every man and his dog is a bloody critic these days and the constant NOISE of comment distracts from the actual music. I am old and grumpy. I shout when newsreaders say “text in your thoughts about today’s news stories”. No – YOU’RE the expert, you present me the news in a thoughtful and reflective way and maybe introduce some expert opinion/interpretation but don’t read out Mrs Williams from down the road, you know the mad old woman who smells of cabbage, garbled texts. I digress but I feel much the same way about a lot of internet music commentary.
3. I buy tickets, tell my friends, by speaking to them/emailing/texting them and see if they would like to come along. If I know a friend is a really big fan I will get them a ticket at the time I get mine cos I am a good friend and I like to think I am thoughtful. This questionnaire is not really aimed at people like me is it?
4. How can a quilt show off your music taste? I literally do not understand. Liderally.
5. I use RSS for work not for pleasure. I said that in the style of Roger Moore era Bond.
6. I listen to their music and maybe check myspace (though in all honesty, I haven’t done this in about a year because it’s like hanging out at a virtual bus stop)/listings to see if they are playing. I am not that interested in autobiographical guff and couldn’t care less if they Twattered or Hatefaced their hearts out. My big brother is a good source of new music for me, he just knows these things. I can introduce you if you like.
7. I use this site, odd peek at Guardian but would rather read a paper copy. I’m getting tired of the internet. I’m getting that thing where about a year or so ago I was really up to date and on board with it rapidly moving in to this world where every fucker and his wife knows when you have a crap and then I just stepped off and now I just think “who actually cares about minute by minute updates?” and now have no idea what’s going on and, much like my Nan (God Bless you Nan) thought video recorders were magic and you shouldn’t talk when they are recording ‘cos it would pick it up, I look at some Web 2.0 sites with the expression of a dog being shown a card trick. I like a good book.
8. Snog, kill or marry: Anne Widdecombe, Amy Winehouse (in throws of a full apocalyptic crack meltdown), Hazel Blears.
Can you unsticky the "any issues with DiS" thread please
ok
but only if people use the errors board. plz.
deal
1. spotify, last fm, purevolume and occasionally myspace

2. DiS and sometimes facebook

3. get my boyfriend to sort it out

4. nope
5. RSS feeder? je suis thick
6. bands official website and last fm

just to add though i dont know if its relevant
i think buying mp3's of songs is utterly ridiculous.

online music technology is largely shit and pointless.

3. All my gigs are listed on LastFM and I follow what my LastFM friends are going as well, but Facebook is now vital if you want to keep in touch. I have signed up to SongKick.
4. Only LastFM. I use the Scaicha tracker to ensure I'm giving myself a varied diet.
5. I use Twitter for this purpose, but I only rarely look at it (via my iTouch).

Answersanswersanswers
1. Spotify, Amazon, 7Digital, Hype Machine, MySpace, Last.fm, Youtube. Would you like to easily share your favourite tracks and actions on your DiS profile? Yes.
2. Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, Blogspot, MySpace, Flickr. Would you like the ability to easily write your own reviews, rate records out of 10 and link to your reviews alongside DiS content? Yes.
3. Facebook, Last.fm and Google Calender. I almost always try to invite friends to gigs I'm going to but will happily go alone if none of my friends like the band in question.
4. Only Last.FM. Oh and Mog, I think I still have a Mog.
5. Do you use an RSS reader? Do you keep uptodate with feeds of websites via Twitter? Do you bookmark webpages online to remember to read them elsewhere? I use Firefox's "live bookmark" thing to follow RSS feeds. I have some websites on Twitter (DiS, mainly). And yes, I bookmark stuff to remember to read it elsewhere.
6. If you're looking up info about acts, do you use anything other than Wikipedia and Last.fm? Usually a combination of those two, perhaps occasionally a quick google for any Pitchfork or DiS reviews.
7. Lastly, other than music, what are the main things you do online? Keep up with friends (SOCIAL NETWORKING, YEAH?), watch stuff on YouTube, follow film/tech/videogame/literature news.
...
1. Where do you buy / listen to music? Spotify, eMusic and Last.fm. I think a link to my lastfm thing would work.
2. I write a blog, write for GIITV, type about in on here...
3. I use Aberdeen Music.co.uk or something. maybe flyers in the local record shops.
4. Last.fm quilts yes.
5. Only use the live bookmarks in firefox, nothing more. i used to use an aggregator years ago though.
6. Myspace/google/wiki/spotify atm.
7. Tech news, blogging, writing, articles and news, forums, facebook...
8. Why did you choose DiS as the name for this place?
i had lots of ideas
I wanted something with visual impact and that repeated or half-rhymed a sound and made for a good acronym.
I quite liked The SS (for SoundSurfer, as my AIM was SurfSean) but it felt a bit militant and dated, even in 2000.
I'd written a review of being drowned in crowd surfers and sound. CrowdSurfSound sounded a bit turd (and CSS woulda meant nothing). I liked the idea of DiS and one thing led to another.
...
1.i. Buy: amazon.co.uk, emusic.com, amazon marketplace, HMV, local record shops, FOPP.
1.ii. Listen: Spotify and Last.fm, mainly, though sometimes myspace.
2. On here and on twitter.
3. Last.fm and the DiS boards, mainly. I usually invite/go with my girlfriend and/or mates depending on what kind of gig it is.
4. Just Last.fm, and posting in the Last.fm thread on here (if that counts), nothing else though.
5. I don't use an RSS feed, I could never work out how to get it to work... I follow a few websites on twitter, but delete them if they flood my newsfeed (is that what it's called?), like I did with The Guardian and Telegraph. I bundle stuff into a 'Misc.' section of my bookmarks folder, but not much else.
6. Wikipedia, Last.fm, and allmusic are the main ones.
7. News, sport, Facebook, cricket, history stuff, procrastinating on various pointless online games/video sites/quiz sites/blogs, porn.
8. Are those Cadbury's Creme Egg Twisted chocolate bar things any good?
why fuck with the perfect of the cream egg?
perfect?
i meant perfectION
1. last.fm, MySpace, Hype Machine
2. Blogspot, Twitter
3. last.fm

3. last fm
4. nah, used to use the one on here but got fed up at loads of stuff not appearing
5. google reader <3
6. pretty much nope. myspace is balls and i hate having to go anywhere near it.
7. i read alien loves predator sometimes
who says i even use DiS?
they're keeping track of us online now
1. Spotify, Myspace for new bands not already on Spot. Hypem, Youtube and Imeem are used sporadically.
2. I run my own blog and write for various websites. Outside of written content I don't really care about other people knowing my taste. I find Last.fm largely pointless.
3. I go to so few as I live in the middle of nowhere that it's not necessary. However again, when I move and am going to gigs every week I still can't imagine telling other people or printing it online. Pen and paper will suffice.
4. I don't.
5. I have an RSS for blogs via Blogger that is very handy and I have about 20 music news sites bookmarked on my browser. It reminds me to visit them every day.
6. Wiki, Myspace, Google in that order.
7. http://thedw.us/
1, I listen on spotify, and then buy when I have money in HMV or jumbo or crash or discovery
2, I don't
3, I don't really go to gigs
4, I use last fm but none of my friends are interested in music at all, so I have nobody to show off to.
5, I use google reader for blogs, music and otherwise
6, Wikipedia, then I search it on the DiS forums, then DiS reviews, then other reviews.
7, DiS, conquer club, google reader, msn, occasionally the guardian.
8, shoplifting, y/n?
1. Spotify mainly now
2. I don't
3. Lastfm and through hearsay
4. Well my lastfm profile I guess if that counts
5. No
6. Wikipedia, lastfm and spotify if it has a bit on them
7. Couldn't possibly say
i spent rather a long time writing this
1.
i buy music in HMV mainly. i listen to either my MP3 collection (uploads from CDs) or Spotify and sometimes go on myspace/youtube for stuff that's not on Spotify.
i guess that i'd like to share stuff on my DiS profile but if i think something is that good then i'll put it in a thread or post it on facebook (i only have a couple of DiSers on facebook tho)
2.
as i said just now i post stuff on facebook, or show it to people on MSN, or if i'm really impressed i might send a txt (i did this when i first listened to Mahavaishnu Orchestra) or save it in my favourites.
i'm more of a 'share with my mates' person than a 'wanting to inform the world' person when it comes to cool internet shit. eg. i don't have a public blog. does this paragraph make sense ?
3.
gigs i just find on myspace, give my mates a ring/facebook them to organise them going. i don't use the internet at all. it's defo something i'd like to look into tho cos i don't go to enough gigs.
4.
no
5.
i have no idea what an RSS reader is (i'll google it in a minute tho) being able to bookmark threads and articles within the site would be really really cool. i always read through the whole news feed on facebook but i've logged into twitter only a couple of times since i joined.
6.
what kind of info ? i go on wikipedia and then follow links from there if there's anything extra i want to know. also the biogs on Spotify i normally read.
7.
my most used websites are in order (since whenever it was i last cleared my history):
facebook
google
DiS community
youtube
redtube
wikipedia
tfl
freetetris.org
bbc.co.uk (news and iplayer)
onthebox.com (tv listings, good website)
so:
connecting with other people
finding out stuff
talking about stuff
and wanking, of course
shit i forgot my question 8
if you were an illegal drug, what would you be ?
Quizzz
1) i buy it on emusic, i listen to it online on last.fm radio, pitchfork.tv, youtube.
2) i normally do this irl, or on the music board.
3) last.fm events, cos it knows what i listen to so can suggest me stuff.
4) last.fm
5) google reader, people who don't care what rss is are silly.
6) apart from the ones mentioned i use allmusic cos they've normally rated the albums and so i know which one is considered the best.
7) at work: bbc news, guardian, speak you're branes
at home: pressing the google reader next button which has webcomics, sites with silly photos (sans cats), sites with less silly photos, blogs. Also wikipedia clicking, iplayer/4od, finding somewhere to live.
8) what's the best thing about the internet?
Didn't get a thank you
for the really long email I sent you after you PM'd me asking for advice. So I'll be fucked if I'm going to help you in a thread, cheers.
he's a busy man, mirri
A busy man taking the time to send a six long paragraph PM to an older time user asking for advice
who gets said advice when respondee who is also is very short of time but still don't send a simple 'thank you! so busy but thanks will respond later!' but then actually takes up some of your ideas and never says a word about them? yeah. I'd prefer to call that an arrogant cunt.
cheers.
none of this
is in the form of a question.
erm
I don't think I received your email. Please resend it (however I'm moving house the next few days about to be rather internetless)
1. Where do you buy / listen to music?
Spotify, [iTunes and 7digital not so much] Don't really bother with lastfm no more as the big S has made L's streaming aspect redundant
2. Where do you document/share your reactions to music, life and the like?
I might start writing some sensible things on here someday http://areviewofsorts.blogspot.com
3. How do you organize what gigs you're going to? Do you care about inviting friends to the same gigs?
Check it http://last.fm/user/sevenplusone/events
Also, not really. My only music loving friend is 17
4. Do you use anything to share/show off your record collection/library online?
Apart from the last.fm stats, no. (I do use the DiS thingy though!)
5. Do you use an RSS reader? Do you keep uptodate with feeds of websites via Twitter? Do you bookmark webpages online to remember to read them elsewhere?
I have some sites on my blogroll. I only really use twitter for stuff humans say. Yes
6. If you're looking up info about acts, do you use anything other than Wikipedia and Last.fm? Maybe MySpace or just google for bands official website?
Not really, unless Wikipedia directs me to it
7. Lastly, other than music, what are the main things you do online? Football, porn, lolcats, tech news, politics, read news on Guardian, etc...?
Football, porn, wikipedia, googlemaps, silly games
...
1. Spotify & Blogs. Yes it would be good to share tracks.
2. I don’t use websites. If I like/dislike a band or a track I’ll probably just discuss with friends in pubs etc
3. I’ll usually be “attending” on Facebook. This was if there are any last minute changes I’ll know about it
4. No. I don’t care what other people make of my record collection. It’s not arrogance, I just have no interest in showing it off, especially not online.
5. Yes, I keep up to date with Twitter feeds and yes I bookmark webpages – I find this very useful.
6. I just Spotify the band and listen to them. If they have no tracks on there or I want to find out about gig listing I’ll check their Myspace.
7. Football, porn & art mostly. I also look at weird animals and bizarre toys from around the world. I’m fairly into clothes and cool things for the home and use Colette.fr a lot. I also listen to a lot of podcasts – Adam & Joe etc. I think DIS should do a podcast. You could have reviews, guest presenters and good music, obviously. Do it
1/. buy/listen: amazon, myspace, spotify, hype machine, late night radio
2/. reactions to music: conversations with friends, here, facebook
3/. gigs: browse myspace mainly, text friends to spread the word
4/. sharing album collection: used to have a list of favourite albums on facebook, had an old myspace page which had images of all my favourite albums in a collage. nothing now.
5/. RSS/following threads: not at all, but i should be and your idea for including it as a feature sounds great. much better than searching the forums for funny old threads.
6/. researching acts: mainly wiki, last.fm and myspace, but i also find interviews and in-depth reviews to get a better picture of the band if i'm a fan.
7/. non-musical internet: news sites, e-mailing/facebook, b3ta/cracked, porn, occasional internet gaming.
8/. my question
can you figure a way we can open multiple tabs for forum threads without it slowing down our computer? i think it's the ads loading on each page that does it, so perhaps setting something up where you can open new tabs sans banner ads? i imagine this might be bad for the site financially though...
nah, it's the fancy news scroll
slows everything done -- for nought, too, imo.
well then i will rephrase
8/. Can the Community section exist minus news scroller please?
seconded
I'll play...
1. Where do you buy / listen to music?
Don’t really buy much online, usually from Amazon or direct from a band’s site/record label site. Tend to just email someone at www.spillersrecords.co.uk and then pop into the shop to pick it up. Listening mainly on Spotify these days, though Hype Machine and MySpace still play their part. And YouTube and Pitchfork.tv
2. Where do you document/share your reactions to music, life and the like?
Facebook, local messageboards that my ‘real’ friends use, and sometimes on my rubbish blog as well – http://ursinepunch.blogspot.com
3. How do you organize what gigs you're going to? Do you care about inviting friends to the same gigs?
Facebook and local forums. I’ll invite people I know/start threads if I think it’s something people I know might be interested in going to.
4. Do you use anything to share/show off your record collection/library online?
Nope, not really interested.
5. Do you use an RSS reader? Do you keep uptodate with feeds of websites via Twitter?
Not at the moment, though I keep thinking that I might start (but I don’t really know how to – durrr)
6. If you're looking up info about acts, do you use anything other than Wikipedia and Last.fm? Maybe MySpace or just google for bands official website?
Everything you mentioned basically
7. Lastly, other than music, what are the main things you do online? BBC News, Guardian, Slashfilm, Facebook, read various blogs, various forums, email. The usual. Glad I can scratch the daily checking of rental properties on Rightmove.co.uk from my list now :-)
...
1. Buy: Redeye, Chemical Records, Boomkat, Amazon, maybe more. Listen: Myspace, Youtube and those record shops online.
2. http://thesonicminefeild.blogspot.com/ & http://sonicrouter.blogspot.com/ I keep forgeting twitter exists but I want to use it as part of my blog really. I would only link with DiS by you lot taking the RSS of those blogs or by spamming the boards with links to my blogs like I do anyway most probibly, unless it was better than the old user reviews system as I'm not convinced anyone ever read them, but even then you would just get a copy n paste from my blog and I'd probibly forget.
3. I dont do any organising online of my gig going at all, I just remember whats goin on as I know I cant get to loads anyway as I'm skint so I keep it minimal. I invite people sometimes usualy by askin rather than an online invite.
4. Last FM, but I mostly use it as a gateway to my blog I guess. So people can see what I'm hearing and maybe like it and read stuff. Oh yeah and DiS banter, if it wasnt for those two I wouldn't bother.
5. just the Internet Explorer RSS feeder I use it alot and have alot of bookmarks on it, its really good for keepin uptodate rather than relying on one site.
6. I just google and see what looks best, it usualy takes you to myspace first then I try and dig deeper for articles on the artists.
7. Look for jobs, comedy podcasts, news, talk shit, usualy rubbish.
1. Where do you buy / listen to music?
i mainly listen to music at gigs. and sometimes Loose Ends on radio 4. i don't download music. sometimes i by things from amazon or play to put on my shelve.
2. Where do you document/share your reactions to music, life and the like?
twitter and facebook and wereallneighbours.co.uk
3. How do you organize what gigs you're going to?
i look at what gigs facebook is saying people i like to stalk are going to and i go there. or my friend simon says he's putting someone on and i go. or my boyfriend buys some tickets so i go.
4. Do you use anything to share/show off your record collection/library online?
i take photos of my shelves and post them to forums.
5. Do you use an RSS reader? Do you keep uptodate with feeds of websites via Twitter? Do you bookmark webpages online to remember to read them elsewhere?
no RSS at the moment. i think i might habe dis on my twitter tho.
6. If you're looking up info about acts, do you use anything other than Wikipedia and Last.fm? Maybe MySpace or just google for bands official website?
i ask human beings if they've heard of them.
7. Lastly, other than music, what are the main things you do online? Football, porn, lolcats, tech news, politics, read news on Guardian, etc...?
cute overload, icanhaz... and it's compatriates, wereallneighbours.co.uk , XKCD, imdb, bbc news, using the radio times website, entering comps with theprizefinder.com , acronymfinder
.
1. Buy mostly from Fopp/online retailers, almost exclusively on hard formats. Occasionally indie shops, rarely in HMV. Only digital store I've ever used is iTunes and otherwise only tend to use Spotify for actually listening to stuff online. Most of my listening other than in the car gets scrobbled on last.fm.
2. I tend not to much except on these boards. Only place I tend to write stuff is www.fetcheveryone.com - running related, so not really relevant to DiS.
3. See gig, ring friends who could be interested, buy tickets. Does really sound like a promoters tool to me - few things would annoy me more than allowing people to directly JAG at me. I'd probably keep track on last.fm better if there were other reasons for going there.
4. www.listal.com, although that's to keep track of what I own/want to get rather than to show it off.
5. Yes to RSS, no to Twitter (no value in it for me), No to online bookmarks.
6. Just google and click on links that seem interesting, or ask on here.
7. Football, RSS feeds, occasionally online games..
Yo
1. Where do you buy / listen to music?
Listen: 6Music, mostly. If I had a working computer and an iPod at home I'd go on Hype Machine more often and download tracks that looked good. Unfortunately I don't.
I buy it record shops. Independent stores in London and sometimes HMV. I've never bought an MP3.
2. Where do you document/share your reactions to music, life and the like? N/A really. I've got a Facebook but that's more for finding out what's going on with my mates rather than telling them about the great new Alphabeat single.
I look at the events on Facebook and ask my mates what they're up to. I don't much tend to promote gigs I'm going to to my mates.
4. Do you use anything to share/show off your record collection/library online? Last.fm quilts seem to be the most obvious for this. Seeing if Amazon can do a list of stuff you own, etc.
Nope.
5. Do you use an RSS reader? Do you keep uptodate with feeds of websites via Twitter? Do you bookmark webpages online to remember to read them elsewhere?
None of the above.
6. If you're looking up info about acts, do you use anything other than Wikipedia and Last.fm? Maybe MySpace or just google for bands official website?
Myspace.
7. Lastly, other than music, what are the main things you do online? Football, porn, lolcats, tech news, politics, read news on Guardian, etc...?
Pictures of Harriet Harman mainly. But yeah, news and sport on Guardian and BBC.
.
1. Where do you buy / listen to music?
Spotify, Amazon, eMusic,Hype Machine, MySpace,Youtube, CDWow, BangCD, Ebay, Fnac sometimes for French stuff
Would you like to easily share your favourite tracks and actions on your DiS profile? (I'm thinking it'd be great to have a feed of what DiSsers are listening to, which tracks/vids they've favourited, etc)
Maybe
2. Where do you document/share your reactions to music, life and the like?
Twitter and Myspace (post on these)
3. How do you organize what gigs you're going to? Do you care about inviting friends to the same gigs?
I don't really - it's a bit random. Sometimes I'll email some folk.
4. Do you use anything to share/show off your record collection/library online? Last.fm quilts seem to be the most obvious for this. Seeing if Amazon can do a list of stuff you own, etc.
NO
5. Do you use an RSS reader? NO
Do you keep uptodate with feeds of websites via Twitter? NO
Do you bookmark webpages online to remember to read them elsewhere? (we're thinking of adding our own thing thing so you can add threads and articles to your profile to favourite/remember to follow) YES SOMETIMES
6. If you're looking up info about acts, do you use anything other than Wikipedia and Last.fm? Maybe MySpace or just google for bands official website?
Hype Machine, band website, myspace, google for reviews/interviews, band's record company website
7. Lastly, other than music, what are the main things you do online?
News (BBC, Guardian, Times), Sport (BBC, tennis tournement sites), Read blogs (Belgian Waffle highly recommended), Read B3ta.com, Twitter, Fashion forums, Ebay for clothing, tech stuff (in addition to music), Book travel, the usual...
8. Do I have to ask a question?
This seemed a bit long before but I've got time now so
1. I buy a lot of things from label distro's but otherwise amazon and ebay are cool too. Otherwise I occasionally buy from independent record stores or like HMV and ting.
Otherwise I've been using last.fm to listen to quite a lot of stuff recently.
2.I used to document/share a lot of my reactions to music on my uni radio show now it's mostly through blogging and dis obvs ;).
3.I mostly look for gigs and stuff via myspace, or by browsing venues of interest, due to the fact that a lot of my uni friends don't really have a similar taste to me I don't worry hugely about telling them unless it's something I know they might be interested in.
4.Not rly
5.I use the inbuilt RSS reader on opera which so far I just use to keep me up to date with the Quietus
6.Largely Myspace and Wikipedia but I've started looking more at blogs and interviews lately.
7. Facebook, News(usually via the guardian), Lolcats and tech via the inquirer or wired.
.
1. Buy usually either One Up records in Aberdeen, Amazon, 7Digital or direct from artist (especially if they are on no/a small record label). Listen Spotify, Hype Machine, MySpace, Last.fm, Deezer. Yes I guess so, It would be more useful than a list of artists with numbers out of 10 on them.
2. Twitter and Facebook as well as other message boards such as ILX, Sound Opinions etc. Yes, that does seem like a good idea, again better than having a comment lost in a busy thread / isolated in a dead one.
3. Facebook and Last.fm. People I know that go to gigs tend to not need a prompting to go to them. I suggest things to people I know in other parts of the country when I’m not there.
4. Amazon has a list of what I’ve bought from them in the last decade but wankng over how big your record collection is rather sad.
5. Certainly with Twitter, very useful for micro-managing my time when I moved and was without b/band at home for a few weeks. I will bookmark content that I know I can’t read at work and so on.
6. Find reviews via metacritic, guardian, NME, DiS Pitchfork and so on of both live and recorded material.
7. Politics, News, Sport, Film, TV, betting, social networking busting balls.
8. I really liked Lithuania out of the three Baltic states.
1. Where do you buy / listen to music? Spotify, myspace, youtube, last.fm...I buy records and CDs from record shops and hmv. And yeah I'd like to share tracks and stuff easily here.
2. Where do you document/share your reactions to music, life and the like? I don't, really. Yet. Some on facebook, last.fm, considering starting a blog...I read a few blogs about music too. Not sure I would contribute to a feature like that but would use it.
3. How do you organize what gigs you're going to? Do you care about inviting friends to the same gigs? last.fm. I prefer to go with a friend.
4. Do you use anything to share/show off your record collection/library online? not rly, just last.fm.
5. Do you use an RSS reader? no but I might do in the future, that seems like a good idea.
Lolcats, BBC news, shopping, stupid games, watching tv stuff, social networking
8. I can never decide whether the red or the pink Jelly Babies are my favourite...but one of those is, definitely.
Moi
1. Where do you buy / listen to music?
->Buy CDs from Avalanche (Glasgow), Fopp, & HMV (occasionally). But mostly from Amazon Marketplace. Rip it and listen on phone when out and about. Listen to non-bought stuff on ambiently on 6music, or specifically on spotify, last.fm or myspace.
2. Where do you document/share your reactions to music, life and the like?
->I don't, aside from the odd posessed drunken rant about artists I dig.
3. How do you organize what gigs you're going to? Do you care about inviting friends to the same gigs?
-> a) Keep tabs on what's on via ticketsscotland, gigsinscotland or The List, b) ask mates that I think might be interested if they're interested, then c) Buy tickets.
4. Do you use anything to share/show off your record collection/library online?
-> Last.fm -ish. But I mostly listen to CDs so I randomly plug stuff into CogScrobbler to try and compensate.
5. Do you use an RSS reader? Do you keep uptodate with feeds of websites via Twitter? Do you bookmark webpages online to remember to read them elsewhere?
->Google Reader. No Twitter. I use Delicious.com for bookmarks.
6. If you're looking up info about acts, do you use anything other than Wikipedia and Last.fm? Maybe MySpace or just google for bands official website?
->I pretty much use that stuff - checking the myspace page as a kick-off.
7. what are the main things you do online?
->Lurk on TheRegister.co.uk for techy stuff.
8. There is no 8.
9. #9, #9, #9, #9, #9, #9, #9, #9, #9, #9, #9, ...
If I could be bothered
I'd set up a profile on LibraryThing. But that hasn't happened yet.
1. Where do you buy / listen to music? Spotify or through my laptop. Buy music through a handful of specialist stores (Phonica, Sister Ray, both Rough Trades, Puregroove) and online (amazon, boomkat, juno)
2. Where do you document/share your reactions to music, life and the like? Facebook occasionally, on here and mainly to friends when drunk.
3. How do you organize what gigs you're going to? I document stuff online, and the rest is random.
4. Do you use anything to share/show off your record collection/library online? Just last.fm.
5. Do you use an RSS reader? I use the firefox favourites toolbar and have dropdown rss of some news websites. No dedicated reader.
6. If you're looking up info about acts, do you use anything other than Wikipedia and Last.fm? Google... here...
7. Lastly, other than music, what are the main things you do online? Facebook, a variety of news websites, shopping, downloading tv and music.
Ok
1. Where do I buy/listen to music? Mainly via MySpace or bands own sites.
2. I run a blog, which is mostly gig reviews or reviews of albums that aren't being covered elsewhere.
3. I have a book with dates in it. It is called a 'diary'. I'm also on Songkick, which looks as though it will be very useful.
4.Not interested in showing off record collection. Don't care about anyone else's either.
5. Not really sure what an RSS reader is. I do have bookmarked sites which I monitor.
6. I tend to use MySpace or band's own sites. Last fm can go fuck itself.
7. All of the above.
I don't use the internet for any of the stuff you've asked about
and I'm not interested in seeing or knowing about anyone else's stuff really. But then I may not be part of your key demographic...

Ava B is by far one of the most talented actress and singer/songwriter to have come out of the funky house scene. Her versatile style, originality and consciousness in her work, combined with her strong passion for music, performing and acting, makes her an all round entertainer.
The funky house singer is currently working on her first EP with the new single “Pants Love” and recently made an appearance on the first interactive TV series “Dubplate Drama".

.
1. Spotify and buy wherever's cheapest, could be online/offline/chain store/independent.
2. Hope of the States' forum (discussion.forwardirektion.com). Facebook statuses.
3. Last.fm, but truthfully the amount of gigs i go to hardly warrants organising really.
4. Have thought about, have last.fm tools for some things, but not too bothered over all.
5. Nope.
6. Wikipedia, occasionally Allmusic.
7. Football (usually the Beeb's site.), Film (usually Empire), and Facebook...
.
1. Spotify, HMV or Jacks (in sheffield). T'd be cool to follow everyone's music choice, but isn't that breaking some form of restraining order if you do?
2. Twitter, Facebook, DiS (of course)
3. Just pray that it hasn't sold out. Or that i'm not working the next day...
4. Nope
5. Sometimes but not seriously
6. Message boards and myspace.
7. read news on Guardian
8. Tramlines lineup???
.
1) Listen - myspace, lastfm, youtube.
Buy - wherever I see a bargain, could be online (amazon), independent record store or HMV.
Could be cool.
2) I Don't.
3) I Don't. Will tell friends if I think they'd be interested, sometimes via facebook.
4) Lastfm, but don't really use it for this purpose.
5) No.
6) wikipedia, lastfm, myspace, google band name.
7) News, e-mail, facebook.
1. Record shops(bricks&mortar). Listen Myspace,Youtube,boomkat/phonica/piccadilly/honestjons/uptown etc
2. discogs/dubstepforum/djhistory/dis
3. I don't. If I see something coming up that looks good I will ask friends if they fancy it.
4. Discogs
5. Don't use RSS and think Twitter is annoying. I bookmark blogs/sites that I find.
6. discogs,myspace,blogs,record labels website
7. read news, email, sell records on discogs, get food recipes, research new purchases...
I'm not quite sure if I'm allowed to respond with this?
I would like to offer another online presence to this community.
Whotune - is a new unsigned music community that has been built ground up to support the Unsigned music community and Music Businesses.
We have some great features already - and we are working on a virtual jamming facilty right now.
Would love to see people from here on the site.
http://www.whotune.com
I'm constantly on last.fm to hear new music.
Why? last.fm is crap for finding new music imo
1. Where do you buy / listen to music? Listen - Spotify, MySpace, Youtube. Buy - Norman Records, locally, Phonica, Boomkat, Juno.co.uk
2. Where do you document/share your reactions to music, life and the like? Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, Wordpress. Use Google Reader to read, don't post to all simultaneously. Would you like the ability to easily write your own reviews, rate records out of 10 and link to your reviews alongside DiS content? Yes.
3. How do you organize what gigs you're going to? Facebook, Last.fm, google calendar, iCal. I use various syncing tools to sync Facebook/Google Cal/iCal/Blackberry automagically, lack of ability to do this on last.fm means I use that much less. Rarely invite people to events that I'm not in some way involved in.
4. Do you use anything to share/show off your record collection/library online? No.
5. Do you use an RSS reader? I use Google Reader for Atom/RSS feeds. I also follow a number of Twitter users that are essentially feeds from a website and favourite things to read later (as I only really user Twitter on my Blackberry, RSS favourites in to Google Reader to read later). Do you bookmark webpages online to remember to read them elsewhere? Yes, mainly using delicious, though I've started using Diigo more recently.
6. If you're looking up info about acts, do you use anything other than Wikipedia and Last.fm? Mainly Google.
7. Lastly, other than music, what are the main things you do online? Football, tech news, read news on Guardian, media related nonsense (mainly radio industry stuff).
6. ...and sometimes allmusic.
(1) I buy music mainly on ebay, but occasionally shops like HMV on Oxford Street, or smaller independent and second hand shops.
I listen to music on myspace and occasionally youtube.
(2) A few sites I go on but nothing too exciting
(3) I have a calendar on a word document on my desktop.
(4) Why would I do that?
(5) No RSS, no Twitter.
(6) Wikipedia, myspace, google. Might have to try last fm again.
(7) Talk about house prices, talk about west ham, read about sport, news. Check emails. Access websites necessary for my job.
