Anyone in Bournemouth know if the Opera House venue there has been bought by the Academy? Looks that way.
However when I looked a couple of weeks ago on AMG's site there were no announcements about it and they usually announce well in advance when they've secured a stake in a new venue.
When you say "looks that way" - what makes you say that?
His tour dates list "Bournemouth Academy" on his website, but "Bournemouth Opera House" on Ticketmaster.
Could well be a mistake but I have heard rumours about this for a while now. I'm sure all shall be revealed if it's true.
Cue debate about whether it's a good or bad thing!
Citizens of Bournemouth: prepare to have a venue overstuffed to capacity so that nobody, not even the tall, can see unless they got there two hours early, crap beer at high prices and thuggish security. If it's good enough for us in Bristol...
Other Academy venues I've been to, notably Shepherd's Bush Empire, are just as bad, and I've heard even worse about Leeds, so it does start to sound like company policy - cram 'em in as much as possible for maximum cash, screw you if you wanted to have fun. Of course venues are supposed to make money, but if other owners can do it properly...
is really good. Good views, great sound. Much better than when it was the town and country.
when I lived there. Actually, didnt the Opera House used to be called the Academy? That might be the confusion.
(I could have my memories completely muddled here)
