not even for a second, for some reason
where do i start?
or the Broken EP.
Start off from teh beginning. The Fragile (left side especially) is the best
then Downward Spiral.
After that, if you're still interested, you'll decide off your own bat to keep going chronologically through the discography (albeit coming back to the Broken EP, which was released between PHM and DS).
then the fragile
but you can get the latest album The Slip for free from their website
Then The Fragile...
hands and knees thread!?
downward spiral is good all over
i like the slip a lot as well
Downward spiral has a severe lack of bottom end.
I like the Fragile much better.
the lack of bottom end, that is.
If you don't it's more of a grower. Standard is you get downward spiral although if you ask me the fragile is more listener friendly ( and my favourite ).
then downward spiral, then the fragile. take everything else in roughly chronological order...
god dammit, you've made me want to listen to nin now.
id go with the downward spiral for harsh nasty ness.. however my fav nin album is the fragile by a long way, it has a slightly more organic grungy asthetic.... pretty hate machine and all the more recent stuff i dont really get off on.
I'M THE ONE WITHOUT A SOUL, I'M THE ONE WITH THIS BIG FUCKING HOLE!
anyways yes if you want to listen to nin, i would suggest the slip as the best place to start. It kinda encompasses everything trent has done and is known for. So while it has elements of hard abrasive sonic textures - letting you, it also has the poppy melodic stuff as well - Discipline. Also, it's free from nin.com
I would say that if you are new go backwards through the albums, that's what i did. I started at with teeth, liked a lot of the songs on it, got the fragile, which is an epic piece of work, then broken which is one of the best hard rock/metal ep's/albums ever put out and then got TDS, which is an undisputed masterpiece, then Year Zero, which i think is beter than TDS personally and then got PHM and the remix albums live albums etc.
If you get a chance to see them live, do. Trent has said in interview's that this will be the last tour for a long time (10 years) while he wants to try new things. I saw them in glasgow in 07 and they were fucking amazing and they are gonna be at a T, sonisphere, oxegen and one gig in manchester at the MEN and one at the 02.
Then Broken Ep
Then Pretty Hate Machine
then go wild. Maybe Further Down the Spiral / Fixed EP.
