Seeing as there seem to be so many of them, which are actually worth listening to?
and a lot of nonsense.
ASMZ are the best imo, but Hangedup and Set Fire To Flames also have great moments.
Valley Of The Giants' "Westworld" is my favourite song out of any CST project however.
(other than the label)
they're amazing anyhow, and definitely worth a poke. sort of halfway house between godspeed and lightning bolt (horrible description, just check em out)
im pretty sure one of the GY!BErs did 'extra instruments' for one of the albums, and they woulda had something to do with the recording
get clatter for control, great album
Obvious answer: A Silver Mount Zion. Best to start with the earlier albums though (especially the first two) before you try the later ones, where Efrim's increasing vocal duties seems to divide people - I think his voice is fine, others disagree strongly. ASMZ are very good anyway.
I've heard good things about the first Set Fire to Flames album.
Esmerine are lovely, they would be my top recommendation
The first album 'Sings Reign Rebuilder' is awesome, imo as good as Godspeed (and better in other ways); second album is a horribly rambling double LP which is all go-nowhere field recordings and half arsed improvs. Don't bother.
One Speed Bike - D&B craziness. cool song titles too.
Hrsta - continuation of Godspeed more ambient elements.
Is a great album.
Sings Reign Rebuilder is an amazing album but i'd disagree that their second is all that bad, rights or spring reverb, when sorrow shoots her darts, and this thing between us is a rickety bridge of impossible crossing, are up there with the best tracks of sings... I think there is nearly as much good material just spread over a longer album, the field recordings don't hit the mark as much though.
A silver mt zion, I prefer the latter stuff because the words are the best bit and his terrible singing is perfect
I'm not sure about Set Fire To Flames - some of Sings Reign Rebuilder is ok, but a fair bit of it is someone just hitting a bit of metal and rustling.
that would cut down 14 minutes of rustling straight away, I think the rest has a nice balance between the more abstract and actual music. But I see what you mean, I was on the train one night and it kept making squeling metal noises and sympathetic resonances, it sounded exactly like set fire to flames
One-Speed Bike, Hangedup and Do Make Say Think are all god/great.
Set Fire to Flames - Not heard the first record, but the second one (the double lp) is absolutely fucking awful.
Fly Pan Am - I have N'Ecoutez Pas and that's shocking too, not sure about their other records.
as in rubbish? really? all their records are great, they really drop the shoulder and dig into some heavy kraut furrows when they get going.
I actually played some out in my DJ set at the weekend. play Do Make Say Think as well - Horns of Rabbit. people danced twice. (see other related thread on indie dancing. dance to post rock and weep SUKKAZ!)
And someone mentioned Esmerine above; they were correct, also.
none of you have mentioned the 'metal math core' band they did about18 months ago called Diebold, mainly because it wasnt released on Constellation...
It fucking rocks!
