Blackdown has done one hell of an interview here.
deep mix cheers jimi
really enjoyed it, no problem.
love reading about peoples routes into dubstep be it garage, deebee, whatever.
is out at the end of the week, I'm looking forward to hearing it, I've not seen a single review of it or anything maybe its to soon I know places seem to be reviewing things later than they have in the past. They have a tectonic 12" out now too its damn good. I've really got to be in the mood for them though its so dark, spacious and quite simular sounding... well the stuff I've heard and this mix is anyway. Fuck me they can produce though the sounds are massive.
I haven't been listening to much of the more brooding dark halfstep stuff lately so it'll be good to have some unrelenting darkness as we move through to autumn proper!
have really been doing the dark thing recently Cyrus, Kryptic Minds and Distance up next, I'm enjoying it not as much as I do when its on a huge system but still enjoying it.
Whenever it gets through to this time of year I start moving away from the more upbeat, two-steppy stuff to dark, sparse music, so it's good timing really. I think the problem with halfstep tends to be that when there's so much focus on bass pressure there's such a lot lost when it's not on a big system. With the more two step/garage/techno hybrid stuff there's more midrange so less lost on headphones.
some of the half steppy stuff sounds really chilled out on a normal home stereo but you get to a club that knows what they're doing its some of the most intense music around the bass fills everything out so much and flips the energy completly.
Not sure I move much with the seasons but I know what you mean some music just sounds perfect if its icey cold outside or the suns out. The deep bass pressure of the half step kind of feels warm to me, dark and warm like a muggy night. Well some of it anyway. Clubroot sounds quite wintery and icy.
Halfstep sounds chill and wintry to me, Clubroot's all echoey and sounds really humid and tropical... Funny the difference really.
I find 2562 good in the winter all those sharp punchy beats and minimalistic sounds.
blackdown is a bit good at them to say the least.
its really good so far, really moody and smooth it kicks a real punch too the sounds are huge.
Sonic Routers very own MLR had a little chat with Kryptic Minds too you can fidn it here: http://sonicrouter.blogspot.com/2009/09/read-kryptic-minds-on-their-dubstep.html
Kryptic Minds & Loefah are on Hatcha's Kiss 100 radio show tonight at 1am it should be well nice, Loefah doesn't go on radio much at all.
the production levels where weak, garage is cheesey and I hate vocals, I want it smooth, dark and sounding huge then this is for you. And if you like Burial well... he's doing a remix of their stuff with Loefah.
