I think Sebadoh's "III" and "Bubble and Scrape" are better than anything Dinosaur Jr have done. Anyone agree, disagree?
I like Bakesale a helluva lot, but I still don't like it more than any Dinosaur Jr. album. Well, maybe I like it more than Green Mind. Harmacy is good too. I really don't like Bubble & Scrape, aside from 'Sister' - that song's really good. It's just got too many crap Eric Gaffney songs on it.
Have better tunes, especially from the III, Bubble and Scrape and Bakesale albums.
Mind you a Dinosaur Jr v Sebadoh debate is a bit like a Pavement v Silver Jews debate. All excellent but the "spin off" bands Sebadoh and the Silver Jews are better.
Dinosaur Jr > Sebadoh
the majority of dinosaur jr songs, while awesome, are essentially meaningless... J's a great guitarist and musician but he's admitted himself that he isn't a songwriter in the way that Barlow is. Lou's songs are less technical, more emotional. it properly baffles me that someone could think they sound even remotely alike.
but apart from that, i'd put III and Bakesale above any other Dinosaur Jr albums.
It's a tough call. Draw!
Sebadoh have WAAAAAAY more substance. easily.
but i prefer Sebadoh overall... Lou has the knack that Neil Young had, of turning stuff that should be cliched and laughable into real feeling & Jason is one of the most underrated rock songwriters on the planet.
sound like foo fihters, dinosaur jr are pretty much the best thing ever
needs to listen to the lyrics a bit harder
no one articulates crippling anxiety like J
or the girls he wanted to fuck at the time.
outside of Out There i cant think of any tracks that have real emotional weight behind them.
he would be firmly in my top 20 favourite people ever, i was just trying to differentiate between his and Barlow's songwriting.
How'd you pin that one on me
but i'd use the others in the case for the prosecution... so we're probably not gonna agree on anything here. i mean How'd You Pin That One On Me? f'reals?
I love that song, I cant think of any song that captures the feeling so anxious I feel physically ill feeling as that song
i reckon i dont really relate to it cause i'm such a cool, well-adjusted guy :|
no disrespect to Sebadoh though
despite that, i do love Sebadoh.
is possibly the best song of all time
Although they do have some pretty decent tunes. It's Dino EVERY time.
The Sebadoh is my favourite album by Sebadoh. It has all the best Jason Lowenstein songs on it and it also has that one written by the drummer that I think it great.
And talk of the 'doh sounding like the Foo Fighters is way wide of the mark.
(Not that sounding like the Foo Fighters is a bad thing.)
