Hey ladies: do you ever pretend to like an attractive guy's music more than you do as an excuse to chat to them?
I was just thinking about the fact that 10 years ago, when I was often at acoustic floor spot type places, I'd often see attractive girls get up and do their songs (and by attractive I mean the way they were on stage, looks, whatever)...and I never once saw one whose songs I liked that much.
But you know, that was a bit frustrating because what better opening to a conversation than, "Wow, I really loved your stuff"? So there would be the brief conscience weighing of whether you could really do that before realising I would never be able to lie convincingly about music taste.
I always think of this sort of dick-thinking is an exclusively male province but maybe the ladies do this too. So, ladies, have you ever compromised your honest opinion of guy's/band's work just so you could try to get in with their attractive selves?
Yeah I've done this before...
when chatting to the guitarist of a band called Zox who sounded like a cross between The Police and The Jonas Brothers with violins thrown in. :S It didn't go anywhere...
That's a really really bad band.
I think you have to be thankful it fell through, eh?
I dunno.he was quite cute
It would have wore a bit thin if I'd have had to tour with them though...
i think if someone made shit music
i just wouldn't fancy them anyway cos i'd wouldn't think we'd have much in common
Yup, exactly what my friend Laura said.
I like this thread
You should know the answer to this one being in a band Theo.
Of course they do. I'm sure not every attractive girl who approaches me loves my music.
I never remember being approached by any girls post-gig that I didn't already know.
Out of interest...
Would you prefer (assuming you were single)
a) Ridiculousy attractive girl coming up to you and being genuinely passionate about your music, but without actually fancying you.
b) Ridiculously attractive girl who isn't that keen on your music feigning interest due to fancying you?
'a' most definitely.
Well actually I'd prefer 'c' in that circumstance: fancying me but is honest about thinking my music is terrible.
they're only after your surgical tights
Of course. And who can blame them?
And I would mean any girl that jus saw you playing. I mean, obviously, if you met them somewhere else they wouldn't need an excuse.
Well, yeah.
It's very rare attractive girls approach me outside of gig situations.
What started me thinking about this was watching the Polly Scattergood video for 'Please Don't Touch'
It's not that the track isn't quite catchy but I can't see it being played much in 12 months' time. But I did think based on the video that she'll probably have legions of twee-tastic Indie Boys as 'fans' for reasons that have little to do with music.
I saw her once before she was "famous".
Jesus fucking Christ she was shit. Most tedious dirge I've ever had the displeasure of sitting through.
Watch it with the sound off and get back to me.
it's worse with the sound off
somehow it makes sense with the awful song but with the sound off it's purely punchable twee posturing of the worst kind
Happens all the time
surely
You forgot to log in as brokonchairs.
I don't geddit
I was taking the piss.
Don't worry.
err
OK
it's happened
my ex-boyfriend was in a shitty band, and even he admitted how awful they were.
i've also sometimes checked out bands that i know a crush likes so i can chat to him about his favorite bands.
i work for a radio station, so i also have to kiss as during interviews with bands that i despise (see: white lies), but i suppose that's different.
