even Rollins is endorsing it
the worlds gone mad
unless it does something skull popping in the final third i just don't get the hype at all
I was bemused and a bit confused after the first listen, which was sufficient cause for a second listen, which became motivation for a third, at which point I started rating it quite highly indeed.
I could give you a dozen explanations, if you like.
it's a darkly visionary and exciting record. And not commercial either.
I've never heard anyone describe a record as 'darkly visionary' apart from in the sum up statements at the end of a review.
It's very much ok. But it's way too eighties to be amazing. Some really teeth grinding synth washes.
It seems ok on first listen. A bit 80's for my liking, but ok...
It's really not striking me, the vocals are irritating me quite a lot at the moment. I'll give it a few more trys, but I expect it wont budge above an ok record to me.
Think it is a pretty fair review surprisingly. They praise the album but don't go over the top in declaring it the best thing ever.
I have listened to the album more than any other album this year (well, this and MPP) and it still stands out - it's a rare thing nowadays, an album that actually works as an album, unlike a collection of tracks stuck together for the iTunes generation.
But I like this album. Not sure how much yet.
I did listen to this album last night. I have to admit I wasn't a fan of the previous one or them in particular.
This new hype of a 2nd album is nothing new, its probably a greater 2nd album for most bands, but it appeals like a cracking comilation of other artists creations. I'd rather make a mix tape/cd/playlist of
My Bloody Valentie Love Less
Several CAN albums and some Amon Duul ii
The Cure - Pornography
Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights...
Its nothing special for me and has no longevity at all. I can see why people 'get it' but I bet you millions of brown m&ms you wont have it in your top 10 albums of all time over the next few decades.
Pre- release day say how AMAZING the new Horrors album used to be "Oh my god, I used to think they were such a joke but not now!"
Now it's out- "God will everyone shut up about this album, they've just ripped off MBV and Can. Typical scenesters."
i never said they were amazing. i never claimed i was cool. im more like a chuck norris kind of guy.
The Horrors was not one of his picks...
