The Stone Roses
except for King of Leon i'd say that all the big guitar bands of the last decade, their debut has been the best, haven't heard much off the second Arctic Monkeys albums tho
without question, in my mind
A lot of people would probably disagree with me there but the songs are so much better and I find the rest of their stuff bland in comparison.
but overall, I think Automatic for the People is the more definitive record.
it's a debatable one. each album kind of defined the r.e.m. of that decade - hows that for a compromise?
You could probably make a case for most of their albums up to Up as being definitive though.
Killing Joke (in my mind, anyway)
I reckon the trend started properly with Oasis. Ever since then there's been an increasing trend of diminishing returns from new indie bands in particular. The Strokes, Interpol, Bloc Party, Coldplay, The Coral, British Sea Power are all guilty of it.
^Love that. Oasis anyone?
not that menos el oso doesn't slay
Although, as mentioned before, this is common with that sort of band

The Streets 'Original Piraite Material' will always define him.
Nice thread, but disagree with the Bloc Party one completely. It's only their definitive album if you want to live in 2005 for the rest of your life.
