possibly the greatest compilation ever? i love spotify!!
The double CD version is well worth investigating too.
brings tears to my eyes
Did you ever see the footage of them performing it with Bill when they were inducted to the Georgia Hall Of Fame or something? It gets me so emotional.
I always think that not enough people realise that just how AMAZING R.E.M. were in the 80s in this country. It's like they think their career started in 91 (which in itself would be an incredible achievement).
pre-91 and post-91, it's like 2 different bands
I'm just going to have to spend the day listening to R.E.M. now aren't I? This always happens when there's an R.E.M. thread on here.
I could listen to Carnival of Sorts (Box Cars) on repeat until the end of my life.
i'm listening to the unplugged version of 'low' now off the nightswimming single..haunting stuff
I love the album version, one of my (many) faves, but I'm not sure I've heard this version before. Just listened to white tornado for the first time in ages :D
haven't heard white tornado..thats next
unbelievable unplugged version. what a band.
it reminded me how strange it is that R.E.M. never really did B-Sides. Even in the early 90s it was nearly always live versions, instrumentals tracks or the odd cover.
That is great, very interesting. That guy must have been so happy when Stipey emailed him. I'm giving Around the Sun another chance because of that blog now, I always thought that album was really harshly judged, even if it is one of their weakest.
Just an album it gets a bit dull.
and Final Straw are both brilliant, the album as a whole is indeed a bit dull though, and The Outsiders ft Q-Tip definitely isn't Radio Song pt 2.
he thinks 'kohoutek' is a poor song - it's one of their best!
possibly the dullest album I've heard by any band I love. Accelarate was a wonderful surprise though, one year on and I still think it's an awesome record.
thats most likely my favourite REM song.
It's on Murmur!
It is isn't it...
i've been up for 36 hours straight, need some sleep
but thats IRS too right?
It should be on it. mind you its a great compilation to get you into old REM.
Almost half of Murmur is.
i thought you were asking if it was on reckoning. confusion all around
it was amazing :)
I haven't actually got the Best Of The IRS Years compilation since I have all the albums, but I suppose it'd be worth it for the rarities disc. Anyone who enjoys it really really should get all the individual IRS albums if they haven't already, though.
But I still find myself returning to the IRS Best Of. It's just a really great compilation, and the tracklisting works really well. Plus it's good if you can't decide which album to go for. And the Bonus disc makes it well worthwhile. They released a DVD at the same time which I haven't got though, does anyone know if it's worth picking up?
