Have I spelt that right? Anyway, I listened back to this last night for the first time in ages, and I've got a feeling I'm gonna get addicted to it again. Definitely my favourite Sparklehorse album. And I really like most of their/his other stuff. Any love for it here?

  • It's also on spotify

so give it a listen, I didn't realise it was 1995, it's aged really well.

Standout tracks : 'Spirit Ditch' 'Saturday' 'Some day I will treat you good' and 'Sad & Beautiful World'

They all begin with the letter s. Good letter.

  • Haven't heard this for years

I'll have to dig it out, I've only got this and It's A Wonderful Life, always kept meaning to get Good Morning Spider but never got round to it!

    • Yeah I liked it a lot at the time

"Hey little dawg / Can you... fl-e-y / Hammering the cramppppssss..."

    • I'd also say Dreamt For Lightyears...

is worth a few spins as well, some great tracks on it. Ambitious record, just lacking the frail melancholy happy/sad reflectiveness of vivadixie...

  • I'm proud of myself that I read the album title so easily

despite not being a fan of the band or having heard any material.

    GalacticStar3ruption | 30 Apr '09, 15:45 | X
    • you should get onto it Frank

Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot should (and hopefully will) be held up as a classic alongside things like 'spiderland' or 'in the aeroplane' etc.

      • I've also not heard either of those albums

there's too much music, way too much.

        GalacticStar3ruption @sunbakedsnowcave | 30 Apr '09, 15:58 | X
        • the amount those two albums get rattled around on here

you should definitely know them by now

          • that sounds more aggresive than intended..

more "I would listen to them because they are good and that"

      • You're absolutely right actually

Hopefully it will canonised in due time

        • I'm with you on this

I've always wondered why Linkous doesn't get more praise. Vivadixie and good morning spider are wonderful.

  • It'd make my list of Top 10 albums ever

Not that I have such a list of course.

It's completely brilliant from start to finish.

Except maybe top 20 rather than top 10.

      ....

actually, thinking about it, it's probably 34th.

  • I think it was of its time

Someday I Will Treat You Good is the only thing I still listen to today

  • my favourite album of all time.

I got this record on 15th June 1996 for my 17th birthday. At that time it sounded like no record I had listened to before. Even now it still sounds fresh and timeless.

The beautifully crafted songs and sheer scope of the record make it a truly compelling listen from start to finish. There is no album that grabs my attention quite like the twanging chords of opener Homecoming Queen.

I love the way it bursts into life with Weird Sisters and Rainmaker then goes downbeat with the static of Little Bastard Choo Choo and then drifts into the country gems Cow and Someday I Will Treat You Good.

By the time the delicate outro Gasoline Horses closes the album I always remark (to whoever will listen) about how utterly faultless Vivadixie is.

Don't get me wrong, Good Morning Spider, Wonderful Life and Lightyears are all brilliant too but if there was one long player I could take to my eternal resting place it would be this one.

    10/10

  • Great stuff

I love Cow and Someday I Will Treat You Good and, ooh, all of them.

I also like how the opening tracks on the first three albums all have the word 'horse' in them. Coincidence?

    plank201 | 30 Apr '09, 17:23 | X
    • doesn't every song of his

include "horse" somewhere in it. They seem to.

      • ^this is pretty much what I thought

  • Mark Linkous is one of the most underrated musicians ever

But he'd appear to be on a career trajectory on the same road as Tom Waits. Every now and then the world will pay attention for 5 minutes then go back to business, while he'll keep producing some of the most idiosyncratically beautiful music ever heard.

I'd say Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot was my favourite Sparklehorse album, but Maria's Little Elbows (from Good Morning Spider) is my favourite song of all time. That song is everything to me.

  • someday i will treat you good

one of the best songs of the 1990s.

    bornin69 | 30 Apr '09, 19:34 | X
  • Lots of love!

I still listen to it a lot. Saturday and Homecoming Queen are amazing, some of my favourite songs ever. I really love the louder tracks like Someday I will treat you good and Rainmaker as well. I think it's the mix of rock and mellow that makes this such a great album.

    Feyodor | 30 Apr '09, 20:04 | X
  • There is love!!

I am deeply attached to "Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionpilot" and "Good Morning Spider" (have fallen asleep to both, in a trance of purest bliss), and absolutely would champion Mark Linkous as the most under-appreciated American musician alive today.
