Outkast for me with the Roots in a close second.
The correct answer is Gang Starr, but i'd also add...
Above The Law
Outkast have one good album, IMO. Roots is a good call - although I haven't heard the last 2 yet.
I like The Roots, but they haven't been amazing since Phrenology really - a few great singles aside.
ATLiens, Aquemini and Stankonia are all utterly brilliant...
Actually, yeah. ATLiens was good, so was Southernplayalistic... Not a fan of anything else they did.
though I only really like The Infamous and Hell On Earth tbh. Agreed on Geto Boys and Ghostface too.
Yeah - considered Mobb Deep. Liked everything up to Murda Muzik, but thats just 4 albums...
ATLiens, Aquemini and Stankonia are definite classics -- not just in terms of awesome rapping but I think they're leaps ahead on most hip hop artists in terms of the actual music too. Speakerboxx/Love below is nearly a classic but requires whittling down to one single disc, too much filler on Andre's side. First album is good. The Idlewild soundtrack was a big disappointment though.
EL-P / Company Flow (combinded!)
All amazing though.
Same reason I couldn't say Eric B & Rakim - only four albums, but each of them brilliant.
pfft... its 5, if you include El-P's EP and of course Company Flows instrumental album...
i aitn yo' niguh shrimp dick.
- Funcrusher Plus
- Little Jonny From The Hospital
- Fantastic Damage
- Collecting the Kid
- I'll Sleep When You're Dead
- High Water
- Weareallgoingtoburninhell megamix 1 & 2
Ice Cube (his first three solo albums are all excellent)
Dilla & Madlib (unless producers doing beat-tapes doesn't count)
has more than a single album's worth of great stuff. and their previous releases all stand up. Aquemini is maybe my favourite Hip-Hop album ever.
i'd add Scarface, tho Geto Boys has been mentioned. Goodie Mob. and Devin the Dude because it's been a pretty humourless list so far
y'know, he's released his fair share of crap but there are enough good Lil Wayne records to add him to the list imo
People Under the Stairs
Good shouts on O.C., Geto Boys, Gang Starr, Scarface (new album is great), Jeru, and Ghostface. Some of these others are weak or dont qualify. Mr lif, Nas, Mobb Deep have absolute classic material but no more than two great albums per.
Outkast's first four albums are still constantly in my rotations, and ATLiens is single-handedly responsible for me getting into the genre. I have boughten that CD 3 times (too worn, then stolen) and will always have to have a copy. SpBox/LvBlw didn't do it for me but between it and Idlewild I could gather up a solid mix as stated.
