Not one album I love has been released yet this year. NOT ONE. Sad face.
That one is good. I love it. And also the Death album, but that was recorded a million years ago
it didn't do that much for me on first listen though. Which is weird, because when I heard stuff from it on the radio, I really liked it, so maybe I will give it another go. After I've given the Tim Exile album another go. That has potential. I just want something good with guitars and whiny American vocals though. Is that so much to ask? :(
maybe it's all crap at the moment. Wavves is a whiny American but I do not love him for the most part
i consider to be miles ahead of anything i heard last year.
last year had a lot of albums i quite liked, but none i'd ever call my favourites.
Sounded like the soundtrack to a 1960s B-movie. (Did you say you liked the Emeralds album in another post? Ignore this if you didn't. Everyone else though - PAY ATTENTION.)
tell us what they are, Nestor.
i agree with the general consesus that theyre incredible. especially the latter.
blank dogs - under and under
the super vacations - the super vacations
woods - songs of shame
DEATH - for the whole world to see (mentioned above)
(actually thats 6 above that are amazing)
also really good:
zola jesus - new amsterdam
eat skull - wild & inside
the antlers - hospice
pretty much EVERY charles hamilton mixtape
real estate 7"s
also, from last year, i think you'll really realy like the Surf City EP - www.myspace.com/killsurfcitygo . probably the best "guitar band" around at the moment in my opinion. oh god it's SO good.
also i really like that emeralds record, but i thought The Solar Bridge EP was much better
Maybe that will make me :). Blank Dogs I do NOT LIKE. Death, I will check out. Clues album is okay, need to listen to it a bit more, but I do wonder if I'd bother with it at all if it weren't for The Unicorns. Antlers album is okay too, but the louder, more upbeat bits are rubbish, and the whole thing has an air of self-importance which pisses me off.
it kinda took me a while
I only listened for about 5 seconds. It was fairly clear-cut though.
also forget everything else i'm saying and listen to surf city first. so good.
I'm going to try Surf City now.
I've now found this, and I am enjoying this: http://www.myspace.com/thememoriesattack
AC, Woods, Blank Dogs and Eat Skull. Clues is the only other one i've heard (rectifying this now, thanks) and disagree with.
and I have to say you have 10/10, A+, gold star taste. Pretty much what I listen too. The latest woods, blank dogs, antlers and surf city are ridiculously good!
if you were here, now, I would give you a hearty tap on the back. Do you not like Wavves? the 'so bored' cover here is pretty sweet.
love a few wavves songs but mostly doesnt really do much for me.
maybe music just dosen't like you anymore.
Last year had Women.
either the Eat Skull album, which lemonbrickcombo recommended me. The second track on that sort of reminds me of Women.
Also, abe vigoda ep???
Peter Doherty- Grace/ Wastelands.
if you like Pavement and Sonic Youth and The Olivia Tremor Control, you'll like it a lot!
reminded me of Owls/American Football etc
very good stuff!
and you just reminded me that I need to listen to it some more, so thanks icehockeyhair.
Not my thing really, but keep on truckin' (y)
3 albums coming out in the space of about 3 weeks- Trespassers William, Redjetson... and us (stealth jag! muhahahahaaaa!) it's far from dead my friend.
ultre's new album, 'the nest and the skull' is a fucking delightful record. as is soap&skin's 'lovetune for vacuum'.
delighful i say!!
when was ben klock's 'one' out as well? was that this year? if so, it's a fuckin belter.
even if a noise band from Bletchley doesn't sound like something you'd usually listen to I'd still recommend giving Action Beat's album a listen.
and it's absolutely fricking amazing. First 10/10 for me this year.
Oh my :O
things i have loved this year so far:
the copy haho ep
dan deacon - bromst
japandroids - post nothing
obits - i blame you
the juan maclean - the future will come
Maybe I should check out the other 3?
is really good, I've been finding out. Wintermute should be awesome too.
I've loved Calories- Adventuring, Grammatics- S/T, Copy Haho- Bred for Skills & Magic, Fever Ray- Fever Ray among a few others. There are plenty I've yet to hear e.g Dana and Trail of Dead and Cursive etc.
And the Siegfried Sassoon- Muscle Beach and Future of the Left- Arming Erirtrea are my tracks of the year, thus far.
P.O.S.- Never Better
Cymbals Eat Guitars- Why There Are Mountains
Dananananaykroyd- Hey Everyone!
That's what I can think of.
guess you haven't heard of a lil album called MERIWEATHER POST PAVILLION!!!!!!!!!!!! *scoff*
Emmy the Great
yeah, the new Enablers blows everything out the water, and what a shame. 99% of mongs on here wont even know who they are. more for us hey!
I found out about them myself on this very board. Lemonbrickcombo was waxing lyrical about them on a last.fm thread and I thought 'this sounds like just my sort of thing'.
4 women is my current favourite track of the year.
It's a bit boring compared to the last two, despite the odd 'best Enablers track ever'. Some of it is a bit ponderous. "End Note" all the way!
And i keep banging on about the Micachu album but it's surprisingly excellent.
Fanfarlo's debut, Super Furry Animals' latest and hold out for the new Eels album, it's very good.
Fanfarlo good? Will check that one out.
Never been a Super Furries fan really, except the odd single. Last one was proper boreXcore.
they were playing it in Rough Trade last time I went and it was just loud and bollocks. I usually like loud but not bollocks.
All great stuff.
so far so good! Mastodon, Enablers, Dalek, Isis, Sunn0))), Animal Collective... and loads of cool hip hop!
And So I Watch You From Afar - s/t
Obits - I Blame You
if it's not good i'm going to kill you
I've liked a fair few records this year, but have so far loved none either.
Best so far:
Shout out out out out
Trail of Dead
anthony & the johnsons
Trail of Dead
Bat for lashes
And we've still got KONG and Tubelord to come. Wooooop
http://www.myspace.com/crocodilescrocodilescrocodiles (first track)
but what doesn't nowadays?
I listened to the DD/MM/YYYY album earlier, on my iPod, while I was in Sainsbury's, and I think it might just be awesome. Updates forthcoming.
