I can't find a thread on this yet. Opinions?
Darn. I've only heard the unmastered versions of some songs and they were AMAZING. I wanted to get this on day of release.
I found a leak on Friday, presumably it was the final thing?
On of the (many) problems with leaks is that they totally dissipate all excitement about forthcoming releases (I like the Christmas analogy - imagine you've unwrapped your presents in September and want to get taking about them...)
You Need Satan More Than He Needs You stands out after first listen, great stuff!
Satan is full on.
Massive anticipation. I've got the single and that's lots of fun - slightly scuzzier production than before but otherwise pretty much the same as ever, which is fine by me.
The band were understandably less than amused by this event by the looks of their forum. I personally am holding out for the vinyl / CD release as the mp3's on myspace alone and that WOXY SXSW session have already told me it'll be my record of the year. So, until then, I'm going to hold out and enjoy the build up / gigs / singles.
Judging by the comment someone who works for Beggars left on my Fbook status with regards to my listening to it.
What an absolute douche.
I just want to hear it as soon as possible, especially cos I'm reviewing it for the site I work for. Nice to be familiar with it from as early as possible. If I could pay for it now, I would. So get off your high horse and take that huge fucking stick out of your arse.
Sucks for the band but I also bought Curses after first downloading the leak.
Thought it was really, really terrible on first listen but that feeling has since receded merely to mild irritation and limp disappointment.
At least three songs sound like the guitar has been robbed wholesale from the Turrican soundtrack for the Amiga...
Where are Cloak The Dagger and Avalanche?
falco will eat you.
maybe. im saving myself. been ages since i've got a record on the day of release and depending on if i forget, i'll be getting this.
is one of the best songs I've heard for years. Christ, it absolutely slays.
Definitely buying this as soon as it's released.
Well, the 5th that I know of. There are probably others I haven't met.
Is it single material?
are you mate?!
But it's going to be hard. I listened to 'Arming Eritrea' 7 times on the way to work today....
Rage Against The Machine.
I would love to rehear the Turrican soundtrack. I remember it beign amazing. i am going back to relisten to FOTL to hear it.
Falco can punch me squarely in the tits in Manchester next month. To be fair, it's always good to be familiar with all the material being played, and the albums not out till June!
A whole month away? FUCKING HELL HOW WILL WE LIVE?
Falco's Myspace blog (http://iheartau.com/news/fotl-frontman-rants-magnificently-at-album-leak/) mentions a pre-release/immediate download package for the next few days. So we might not have to wait too much longer.
I might be able to buy it when I get paid on Thursday! Stunning stuff.
or do they still sound like Mclusky?
You foolish man, you.
More like a catchy Shellac. With a more varied take on music. And a better sense of humour.
It's very good isn't it? The only track I'm not blown away by is 'Land of my formers'. Which has a great first 20 seconds and is a solid 7/10, just not quite as awesome as the rest of the record.
Love the fact that after 1 listen I thought that it was a bit crap. And yet by the end of that day I realised I'd listened to it 12 times (it is only 33 minutes after all).
The band have once again tried loads of stuff I'd normally hate (harmonies, weird keyboard sounds, etc) and somehow wrapped it up in various 2 minute long rock monsters / experiments / pop songs, and I guess that's why I like them so much. They're never just content to do more of the same.
The upcoming dates should rule.
Chin music / Throwing bricks at trains / Drink Nike / That Damned Fly / I am Civil Service
And I have a problem.
I love love love love the first half of the album. I feel like it loses it a bit after 'you need satan...'
Throwing Bricks is the best song on the album.
However, this is probably because I've listened to the 1st half more due to time restraints etc...
I've deleted this record and the most recent single. Bastard...
HOW AM I GOING TO GET THROUGH TODAY?
i think it'll take a few listens whilst walking to work to make me walk down the road grinning at it, but still.
It's a pointless interview they did that someone on the FOTL forum linked to. It's very funny...
just seen there is a FOTL feature in NME this week
This is the best album I've heard in ages. The last 2 tracks are the weakest IMO, but still the rest of the album is win.
I've had 'Drink Nike' though for 4 months now so thats had ages to grow on me...
The last track reminds me of that track Falco guested on with Kong? Except a lot better, and with a song included as a bonus
maybe they'll grow yet - the rest of the album has pretty swiftly! I dont enjoy the Shawshank Redemption based schpeil at the start of Lapsed Catholics...
I havent actually heard that Kong track :o
It's an interesting idea with Falco talking quietly and it just gets increasingly layered up, before breaking into a storming Kong rock beast. But its a curiosity more than a recommended must have.
Yeah the only track i'm still not vaguely in love with is 'Land of my formers', which is perfectly fine, just not amazing.
Today I'm mostly loving 'I am Civil Service' and 'That damned fly'
& 'That Damned Fly'. Who is the latter about? Am I being thick? Is it glaringly obvious? HELP
He wrote a blog about how crap they were once. And the line "That fly / that damned fly / leaves me sick / leaves me compromised... Someone should tell them that in this business / Bad acoustics, are an awful start"
I have very little idea of what the rest of the record is about. 'You need Satan...' might be about balancing devil worship with raising a family?
I'd just presumed Pulled Apart By Horses would be good as Kelson liked them.
Now I've actually bothered to listen to them today, I'm even more highly excitable about this gig. They're fucking awesome!!!!??! Two good bands in one night? It's like the 1990's all over again...
