V. IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ALL RECORD LABELS

StephenTough [Edit] [Delete] 30 replies 15:05, 23 April '09

Some of you may know that we - Tough Love Records - were due to release a mini album by William in mid May. The record was intended to be packaged as a 12" and CD set, similar to what we have done with past releases by Situationists and Favours for Sailors. Having ordered the CDs through separate company, we received them a long time ago. However, we've been waiting on the vinyl for months (almost 12 weeks in total now). I'd been calling the company - Media Sourcing - daily for the past three weeks, but kept being diverted to an answer machine. I subsequently discovered that the company went into liquidation yesterday, meaning we've lost the money we paid for the record (£1200) and further to this, despite the order being placed 3 months ago, the records haven't even been pressed.

Unfortunately we had to find this out via another manufacturer, as Media Sourcing have not been in touch, even telling me as soon ago as Monday that they were chasing the order for me. The other manufacturer also told me that Media Sourcing were still quoting people up until yesterday.

So, if you have any outstanding orders with the company, i'd make all the effort to find out what's exactly happened with it. Of course, ignore all quotes you've had.

As far as the William release is concerned, we're going to have to keep it as a CD only and have packaged made up for it - more affordable than paying £1200 to have the records printed again. Anyone who has pre-ordered the record thinking they were going to get vinyl and wants to cancel it now, no problem. We'll be sending out an email to these people asap.

Thanks to everyone that continues to support us X

    • Erm

Just read my message - looks like stress has turned me illiterate.

Basically, avoid Media Sourcing at all costs. If you're somehow unfortunately already involved with them, make all the effort you can now find out what's going on, as apparently they have no assets!

      • media sourcing were never my best friends anyway

        • but basically i wouldnt expect anything back from them if they've gone under

  • Just emailed you

Sounds like a complete shit, hope you can get something back from them

Weird how this has happened almost exactly one year on from the SFH situation. Hopefully it won't happen again in another 12 months!

If anyone is looking for a new supplier, I thoroughly recommend Disc Manufacturing Services (www.discmanufacturingservices.com) down in Plymouth. Really helped a lot of labels out after SFH

    • We'll work something out...

Meths - what's your beef with MS? They've fucked up the last three orders we made with, but at least we got them! Slightly unprecedented situation for us. Favours for Sailors have suggested a fundraising event, to be twinned with the FREE PHIL SPECTOR initiative we've founded. Anyone in?

DMS are indeed awesome! More business their way please.

  • free phil spector???

more likely to get you media sourcing money back there :D Still, that's terrible for you and for William who are actually quite good...

not to divert but may I ask how come you lot don't use overseas cd/vinyl pressers...? is there a reason that I, who am about to place an order with a Polish company, should know?

  • A friend just emailed

asking for a lawyer recommendation. I asked why and it turns out that they sent a job to MS back in February and they still don't have it! He's been ringing and emailing everyday but to no avail. I just broke the bad news to him but thankfully he paid on a credit card, which I believe means he can claim at least a percentage of it back from his bank? Seem to remember hearing something about that on one of those money shows on TV a while back

Any other labels suffering because of this?

    bsmrocks | 23 Apr '09, 17:51 | X
    • Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974

"if you pay by credit card you can claim your money back from the card company if the seller fails to honour the contract, or the item is faulty or if the seller wrongly describes it or if the supplier goes out of business with your money before the item is delivered"

  • thanks for the info

we were very close to putting in a massive order to media sourcing.

    • fucking hell

knew there was some problems with the pressing but didnt know it was this bad. Hope you can claw the money back somehow.

I'm still all over the album launch even if there is no album.

We will try and raise a bit of money at the William launch at White Light next friday.

  • I spoke to Dave at Disc Manufacturing Services earlier

He said he wants to help out the the people who have paid money out and lost it due to the unfortunate demise of Media Sourcing

If you've been affected by it, email him (dave@discmanufacturingservices.com) and he'll give £50 off web prices on any CD, DVD or vinyl pressing jobs until you've recouped the money lost. They're good with their credit terms and whatnot too, so could probably be flexible if it helps?

Just thought I'd pass it on as it's a nice offer and could benefit a few people here

    bsmrocks | 24 Apr '09, 13:56 | X
    • Awesome guy!

And maybe this will have some positive effect in that people might listen to the new William record? It's bloody good - songs streaming here: www.myspace.com/williamtheband

      StephenTough @bsmrocks | 24 Apr '09, 15:04 | X
      • I have a horrible feeling...

I may have recommended media sourcing to you in the first place Stephen. If that's so, my apologies.

I was in pretty much the same situation with the Grave Architects (http://www.myspace.com/thegravearchitects) single I just made. What gets me is not that they've gone bust, god knows I know how difficult it is to run a business and i would have some sympathy, but that up until very recently (the launch party gigs for the single actually!) they were telling me the record was about to be delivered.

I now know from contacting the manufacturer (GZ in the czech republic - media sourcing are just a broker) that the order was never placed, so I think there is actually a case for fraud here, beyond the usual bankruptcy proceedings.

Anyway, on a happier note, my credit card company have refunded the money in full, so if any of you have lost out and did pay by card I would certainly encourage you to try that route.

        elpresidente @StephenTough | 28 Apr '09, 01:15 | X
        • Not to worry

It's no one's fault but Media Sourcing. I definitely think there's a case for fraud and a lawyer friend has agreed to look into it for me.

Sadly, we didn't pay by credit card!

Thing is, as bad as this situation is, if people buy the William album on CD (which we have), then we can make our money back, albeit slowly. So, anyone fancy buying a brilliant album for £5? You know what to do: www.toughloverecords.bigcartel.com :)

          StephenTough @elpresidente | 28 Apr '09, 10:04 | X
  • awful situation

some of my friends did a split 7" with a company who went bust, but luckily for them the records had been pressed.
it only took a ten hour round trip by car and having to make an extra payment after hours on the phone that they were allowed to get their hands on what was rightfully theirs.

  • Payments to MEDIA SOURCING

I have 2 orders with mediasourcing totalling 2000cds. When I placed the orders they said their card facility was not working so to pay by cheque payable to ONLINE MUSIC VENTUES which I have just found out is registered to an address in Cardiff. MS received my orders and cheques on April 14th & 15th and they were paid by my bank on 24th April. Has anyone else done this? Don't think I will get CDs but will chase OMV as they have my money and the company is ACTIVE.

  • terrible news

This is really bad news, We've all ways used xpresscds.co.uk for our duplication and replication work. Not had a problem with them, I would really recommend them if any ones looking.

  • BE WARNED - THIS GUY IS STILL OPERATING

Please, any labels reading this, be warned that the wanker behind Media Sourcing Andy Smales is now operating as Media Ventures.

There have been reports of 2 month delivery times on 1000 CDs, blaming printer, then poor quality etc etc. Basically he has no credit anywhere, waits til he gets money in from bands and then pays for previous orders at the cheapest plants he can find (that will still deal with him). It's shocking that the law allows someone to go under twice and then set up again using same website but with slight name change, doing exactly same thing.

After being ripped off by this guy last time I did what someone suggested above and switched to Disc Manufacturing Services (dave@discmanufacturingservices.com) and they've been absolutely brilliant. I can't recommend them enough.
