off the top of my head
...oh no wait
Anal Cunt, Most metal names.
ariel pinks haunted graffiti?
with casiotone. i happen to be listening to etiquette right now, so it was naturally the first thing that popped into my head when i saw the title of this thread.
Kinda works within the theme/tone of most of their stuff
being really disappointed when I heard Primal Scream for the first time, I thought theyd be well metalzz :(
Death From Above
someone making a thread along these lines and suggesting Lightning Bolt, which I agree with.
I just picked some bands from my last.fm profile that seem to work.
The name suits their sound; not by definition, but it just seems right. If you say Converge, it sounds like a hardcore/metalcore band, don't you think?
but the word itself just suggests things converging (coming together) surely? I don't think the word itself has any particularly hardcorey connotations
65 days of samples / 65 days of shit
Caucasian Dub Foundation
I remember thinking that they were going to be an aggressive rock or something like that.
"oi! you pebbles! Get off out of it!"
Death Cab For Cutie
..for some reason I just don't think it sums them up...
Madvillain. So much villain talk on that album.
Brian Jonestown Massacre, of course; 60's, early Stones, psychedelic influenced music
The Clash is a brilliant name
The Cure, coz they are the cure to most maladies. Unless it is something pretty serious, healthwise, then you should seek medical advice.
while trying to come up with a name... these are the ones we mentioned:
Explosions In The Sky
- each exists outside the band
- they work together like a gang
was a pretty much perfect name for them. The ruts is a good one aswell. Other good names: Sonic Youth (although maybe not the youth bit anymore), melt-banana (you can just tell it's gonna be something strange before you even hear it), butthole surfers. Looking at the answers near me there's alot of other ones I'd agree with too, locust, lightning bolt, public enemy etc
Ones that don't really give off what they sound like:
nirvana (that makes them sound like they'd be like sigur ros or something)
my bloody valentine
battles (always thought that sounded abit metally)
probably loads more if I thought about it abit longer.
I remembered one: Fucked up, that's a perfect name for them.
Tom Tom Club
Gay Against You
Belle & Sebastian
The Twilight Sad
fuck buttons, i expected another shitdisco kinda band but was pleasantly suprised, some ok bands have very dull names, can anyone tell me why elbow is called elbow?
The band is named after a line in the BBC TV mini-series The Singing Detective; a character (Philip Marlow) says that the word "elbow" is the most sensuous word in the English language, not for its definition, but for how it feels to say it.
Secretive, moody, slightly sinister, organised, clinical.
Some of these other band names listed don't cut it.
all girl summer fun band
the field mice
The idea of elevating the ordinary... Take one of the most common names in Britain add 'The' and give it an added level of significance, the kitchen sink romantic!
Also of note; Growing, Holy Fuck, Lift To Experience...
No prizes for guessing what kind of music they make!
Really bad music?
sounds more like something from a laura ashley catalogue than any sort of music
