Any love here?
I think he's a bit good.
I keep meaning to pick up one of his albums, mostly out of reverence since I'm a major Wire fan. Any idea where to start?
Like, "when was Steve Earle in Wire? have I missed out on checking out Colin Newman's country phase?"
THE wire, sorry. And I'm not talking about the artier-than-thou music mag neither.
I would love to hear him cover Three Girl Rhumba though.
But saw his son Justin Townes Earle recently in Glasgow and he was excellent.
but the rest of his stuff is a bit patchy, his material before he went to prison is generally better.
how wrong can you be?
His post-prison material is wonderful as is he.
but Copperhead Rd and Guitar Town are by far his best two albums, after prison each album has a few great tunes and a lot of filler.
I rate those two are far inferior to his late 90's work.
convincing me Copperhead Road was inferior to anything let alone another Earle album
theres some great songs but scattered over various albums.
Just listen to Townes Van Zandt instead, seriously amazing.
is one of the greatest songwriters America has ever produced.
used to play Copperhead Road as the last song on the middle floor in the early to mid 90s. Every time I hear that song I get flashbacks to smoke machines, a bottle of bud in one hand, cigarette in the other dancing like a mentalist.
