    pichaelmarker | 15 Apr '09, 13:43 | X
  • I'm down with tha cheapness

Not too excited about tha lineup though. MBV & Sun Ra Arkestra (if actually still good) would be cool to see.

    mug_mug_mug | 15 Apr '09, 13:44 | X
    • Problem with the cheapness though

is it's only going to be through seetickets according to the ATP site. So we'll probably be paying more than if we brought the tickets at the full rate from wegottickets.

      lovelessrapture @mug_mug_mug | 15 Apr '09, 13:51 | X
      • argh I hate seetickets!

I guess they won't announce more bands until the cheaper tickets have all gone too. Might end up paying full price. Or £0!

        mug_mug_mug @lovelessrapture | 15 Apr '09, 13:54 | X
        • the difference between see and wgt fees

is about £3 per person so this is a huge saving.

          Jamie_Summers @mug_mug_mug | 15 Apr '09, 13:58 | X
          • I'm going to believe you

but seetickets have burned me before, literally. They ain't wrong when they say 'hottest tickets in town'

            mug_mug_mug @Jamie_Summers | 15 Apr '09, 14:41 | X
  • ATP: same shit, different day.

I don't mind MBV but as ever with ATP these days it shows a complete lack of originality getting a band that's already played loads of ATPs. The money has started to smell good, hasn't it?

I just look forward to seeing which early 90s 'grunge' band now get pulled out of the hat to perform a 'classic' album in its entirety. Fuck it, may as well just Mudhoney or Dinosaur Jr again.

    Arthur_Scargill | 15 Apr '09, 13:46 | X
    • they've only played the New York one

that said, I don't like MBV much, but the rest of the line-up looks ace, and I'm sure they'll pick some good stuff.

      nice_squirrel @Arthur_Scargill | 15 Apr '09, 13:48 | X
    • Didn't actually see Sonic Youth on the line-up,

another band that have played every ATP since it started.

I've got a novel idea, get them to play 'Daydream Nation' from start to finish; I don't think that's been done before.

      Arthur_Scargill @Arthur_Scargill | 15 Apr '09, 13:51 | X
      • Why don't you just spend your time doing something a little more constructive than moaning about the bill in the announcement thread?

I don't see you putting on any gigs or running a festival.

        lemonbrickcombo @Arthur_Scargill | 15 Apr '09, 13:57 | X
        • Peversely, i'm annoyed because I care.

ATP sells itself as the 'thinking music fan's festival' or whatever, and that's what I want it to be. It can be, and has been at times, brilliant.

It's not really a matter of "it's crap because I don't like the bands that are playing", it has become crap because it has become predictable. Unpredictability is what made it great initially.

          Arthur_Scargill @lemonbrickcombo | 15 Apr '09, 14:05 | X
          • it's ATP

it's great because it's a completely unique atmosphere. No-one else puts these bands on festival bills in the UK. Balls to originality - I want quality.

            lemonbrickcombo @Arthur_Scargill | 15 Apr '09, 14:10 | X
            • I want quality too, that's my point.

              Quality is different to predictability.

              Arthur_Scargill @lemonbrickcombo | 15 Apr '09, 14:18 | X
            • lol ditto

And besides, every festival sticks to what they know best, I swear the subways have played leeds/reading like 5 years in a row now or something.

And also if you took out all the ATP promoted shows sonic youth wouldnt've played in the UK since V in like 2005 or whenever it was. Plus for me ATP is all about fucking about on the site and not fussing over too much of the music as it just gets to be too much by the sunday.

              lovelessrapture @lemonbrickcombo | 15 Apr '09, 14:21 | X
          • But the first acts are always the big bands,

the reliable ones and those that are the first to accept.

Wait until the line-up starts to fill up - there'll be enough surprises and exclusives in there.

            marckee @Arthur_Scargill | 15 Apr '09, 14:24 | X
            • I'd go just for EPMD!

              Mainly.

              lemonbrickcombo @marckee | 15 Apr '09, 14:45 | X
        • If he did start moaning about The Bill, he knows I'd break him.

            samizwhat @-gen- | 16 Apr '09, 09:01 | X
    • i wouldn't say that they are all like that, but this one certainly is selection by numbers

i guess they normally have a fvery similar line up, as you say, with a token hip hop act in the first anouncement...

      cyberdemon @Arthur_Scargill | 15 Apr '09, 13:54 | X

    cyberdemon | 15 Apr '09, 13:47 | X
  • I could want to go

but the only thing about Nightmare Before Christmas it does tend to lean too far to the noise, atmonspheric ruckous when all i want is FUN! (with some noise atmospheric ruckous.) I really like the bands on show so far but I cant imagine myself listening/watching that sort of stuff all day.

    just saying like

    eschaton | 15 Apr '09, 14:08 | X
    • yeah

I mean, they don't seem very good but you can just walk past em and go and watch something else. Buzz from teh Melvins likes them too. The world has gone mad

      mug_mug_mug @eschaton | 15 Apr '09, 14:11 | X
      • Quite

Well I'm going to fly in the face of internet convention and give the whole 'insane positive / negative reaction to 6 bands being announced for a festival' thing a chance to simmer down a bit and see who else gets added over the next few months.

        eschaton @mug_mug_mug | 15 Apr '09, 14:16 | X
        • Quite.

it's fun to watch people get wound up though isn't it?

I think I might try extra hard to get time off for Supersonic now

          mug_mug_mug @eschaton | 15 Apr '09, 14:20 | X
          • yeah, it looks dead good! Corrupted! Flipping heck

I'd love to hit Supersonic and Sonar (along with the fans atp & primavera) as well this year, though sadly I fear Sonar may get dropped. Are EPMD any good live still? They must be getting on a bit now, it's a long time since Strictly Business

            eschaton @mug_mug_mug | 15 Apr '09, 14:25 | X
            • I know not

Same question about the Arkestra. SOMEONE ANSWER

Yes it's mainly Corrupted that are swinging it. Someone on another board was banging on about Neurosis being the last secret headliner type person playing it. I don't know if that is lies though

              mug_mug_mug @eschaton | 15 Apr '09, 14:29 | X
              • I saw Sun Ra's Arkestra at Hokaben

                They were stunning.

                • thankyou!

I'm going to ask more questions IN CAPITALS from now on. Was it a bit of a free-for-all?

                  mug_mug_mug @CillaCrack | 15 Apr '09, 14:40 | X
                  • No, in fact they played a relatively conventional set

They did a couple of Duke Ellington covers, some 'classic' Sun Ra tracks, then some wilder stuff. It was a pretty decent choice of tracks.

                    CillaCrack @mug_mug_mug | 15 Apr '09, 14:54 | X
                    • cool

Sounds alreet! Not that I could recognise a Duke Ellington piece if it bit me on the behind like

              • And whats up with being gay?

Why do you feel you've got to use the word "gay" as wrong"? Do you think, as a gay man, I use the word "straight" or "hetero" for something wrong? Jesus christ, this is a music webste supposed to be visited by intelligent people and I encounter homophobic shit like this!!!

(can't say I've listened to them apart from on telly once), just more at the time of the portishead atp the general consensus seemed to be all "omg aren't they an nme band?" etc.

Wounded Knees is Kevin Shields' brother Jimi, who used to be in Rollerskate Skinny. They play strangely hypnotising fuzz-driven folk.

        • Y'know, a band like Primal Scream could be brilliant at ATP...

...they've the kind of catalogue that covers a lot of bases, and a party-centric festival set would be awesome.

Likewise, it'd be amazing to have the Furries back again. Think that Cornelius performance of a few years back x a million.

My only ATP problem is always spending too much on booze and failing to pick up tidy merch. Oh, and actually a proper grumble: just me or were the posters well expensive last time? Did they make fewer of them, maybe?

          Mike_Diver @christs_chin | 17 Apr '09, 14:20 | X
    • ATP Unoriginal?

I was just having a wee read though and I saw some people leaving comments about how ATP is predictable etc. I really don't get this. The Fans Strike Back even just shows this is a load of nonsense, they purposely set the rules that nobody could be voted for who has played before.

As far as having the same bands often, believe it or not there are still people out there who haven't had the chance to see certain bands before.

For example, Primavera this year will be my first time seeing Sonic Youth. Now I too would probably get bored watching the same people all the time but in my own personal experience if its a band or act I love I would be quite have to see them 4 or 5 times maybe.

I think the guys at ATP do one hell of a job and it is without a doubt the only way you will see such a great array of musicians, exclusive performances, meet great (mostly) like minded people, hang about with the musicians, run about in the perfect facilities for a festival.

The only thing I wish they could do is guarantee the weather!! Is that too much to ask?

      sister-ray | 16 Apr '09, 12:28 | X
      • Hear hear

The fact that people fly from all over the world to be at ATP speaks volumes. And like you say, not everyone has seen those bands before and even if you have it's not like you're trapped in a pen with one stage and HAVE TO WATCH THEM. Go and see someone else.

    • i'd happily pay £100 more than the vs the fans one for this

wonder who else will be added. Joy Zipper, Le Volume Courbe & now Josh T Pearson seem likely.

      im quite excited already.

      Jordan_229_2 | 21 Apr '09, 18:40 | X
    • £10 early bird offer

now available for ALL chalet options and if it's anything like last week some of the options won't be available for long so don't hang about if you want to take advantage.

    • Got mine!

Finally got through to seetickets and bagged an early-bird. Key now is not to wish the whole year away in excitement.

    • will...

...tickets at the full price go on sale through places like wegottickets and lastminute like for vs the fans etc or just through seetickets?

      Bookshelf | 24 Apr '09, 17:56 | X
      • they'll be on other sites

from June 1st if they're still available.
The way its going, it could be sold out by then.

        Jamie_Summers @Bookshelf | 24 Apr '09, 18:58 | X
        • oh right

so they actually don't have a particular allocation, just the remaining tickets are spread out over ther other sites from a certain date. Grrr, that is a pain, i'm so poor right now!. I can't miss this and I liked some of the other sites as they tell u how many they have left so if it got low I would have to gamble and just get one. Are the full price 2 berth selling quick at the moment?

          Bookshelf @Jamie_Summers | 24 Apr '09, 20:54 | X
          • i think they will sell quick now all the early birds have gone

for the 2's. if you've got a money problem right now, if you can find another few people we still have a bit of space on the deposit scheme, though not a lot

            Jamie_Summers @Bookshelf | 25 Apr '09, 00:30 | X
        • how come atp give See first dibs

their booking fee and transaction fee combo is scandleous, they should be allowed to sell any

..is there another way of getting tickets before June 1st other then seetickets?? They've messed up 2 sets of tickets on me and I swore I'd never use them again - don't mind how much it costs as long as it ain't them

      roastthemonaspit | 12 May '09, 11:51 | X
      • well

there's still a couple of spaces left on the deposit scheme but as the tickets are selling so fast we can't hold back ones for the deposit if people want to pay for em up front. email soon if you want to do it!

          • hey you know who wouldn't be great?

Suicide. They are rubbish these days, or at least they were the last time they played at ATP.

            remittanceman @rob_heath | 27 May '09, 14:24 | X
            • Yeah I saw 'em at their last ATP.

Never did a band name seem to appealing.

              • Off topic but.......

                I've got my ticket!
                Thank heavens for that!
Can't be long til it sells out now!
Does anyone know which ATP Weekender has sold out quickest?
This one has to be up there?
                Shirley?

                bealsy @rustinspace | 27 May '09, 15:27 | X
                • Me too

As of one hour ago. I hope they don't just book a load of rubbish now that it's selling out nicely.

Anyone know when Primal Scream performing Xtrmntr is going to be announced?

                  remittanceman @bealsy | 27 May '09, 15:43 | X
                  • um

I suggested the primal scream thing as a wish. I doubt it'll actually happen unfort.

                    • hope not

                      bloody shit live now

                      Jordan_229_2 @zahidf | 27 May '09, 17:16 | X
                      • Now sure

But they were amazing when Xtrmntr came out.

                        remittanceman @Jordan_229_2 | 27 May '09, 17:27 | X
                    • I must have missed that one.

I was merely engaging in the traditional pre-ATP ritual of listing anything remotely associated with the curators. As far as I'm concerned it's a dead-cert.

                      remittanceman @zahidf | 27 May '09, 17:19 | X
    • When...

...are Jesus & Mary Chain being confirmed, huh?

      pmj1980 | 27 May '09, 16:48 | X
      • They should only be allowed to play

if they do an early days style 20min set of just noise with their backs to the crowd.

        lovelessrapture @pmj1980 | 27 May '09, 17:36 | X
      • that would be cool

im hoping for noisier acts rather than shit like primal scream, sozzz
