2) I am beyond excited about seeing them at ATP.
3) a) Mostly Bambi's Dilemma. What an album. Praying for a London date around their Breeders' ATP show.
5) Still not completely comfortable with the new one. I don't think anything he's done is ever going to be as good as Madvillainy.
6) Stupendously brilliant on Monday. Whatever your thoughts of them on record, go see them live. The last 20 minutes was one of the best things I've seen for years.
8) Uh huh huh huh huh
cheers for the Gang Starr reminder btw
I'm gonna be all over that today.
read this?
http://stylusmagazine.com/articles/weekly_article/visions-of-the-beast-metals-mythmakers.htm
i dunno whether i like Baroness but his art is cool.
Yeah, he's very unique for a metal cover artist
It's so bright. I really like it, actually. I dunno, they've got that right blend of melody and riffage, which excites me a lot when that balance is got right.
I also really like the guy who does the Slayer art....
His art is really something
Beautiful designs, and the brightness of them is refreshing when it comes to metal covers.
Mind you, I think the music is something else as well. Southern growl, lots of melody and some real kick ass riffs. It's all perfectly balanced out.
i.e 5)
Madvillainy? You mean Madvillain and DOOM are the same guy? This makes me a HUGE fail for not knowing this, right? :(
No, Madvillain is a collab. between (MF) DOOM and producer Madlib
Madlib does the beats, DOOM does the verse.
Oh, I see
thanks, just curious really.
(also, I think you mean 're:' , not 'i.e' )
yes, yes I do
thank god you pointed that out ;)

1. Betrayed in the Octagon is pretty incredible. Great stuff.
2. Wonderful new album from ex-Labradford dude...really moving stuff, his voice is absolutely beautiful.
3. Revisited their records and completely freaked out about how amazing they were. The end of Antennas to Heaven absolutely kills me every single time.
6. Amazing performance on Monday.
7. Acoustic doom - incredibly dark stuff but really restrained and quite elegant. Can't wait to see him live in July.

Bloody pod's not scrobbling at all!
According to last.fm the only thing I've listened to all week is half of the 'Pains of Being Pure at Heart' LP. That can't be right. So, therefore, from memory, my list is:
1. Mastodon (loads and loads, including the classical re-working of Leviathan, nice)
2. Marissa Nadler (loads)
3. Mono (a fair amount)
4. Tim Hecker (lots)
5. Dalek (quite a lot) (proudly played to my hip-hop DJ neighbour guy. He says 'it's not hip-hop. It's rock music with some guy talking over the top :S)
6. P J Harvey (some)
7. Zu (a couple of spins of the new one)
8. Pains of Being Pure at heart (a bit)
9. Emeralds (probably 7 tracks - solar bridge (2) + what happened (5))
10. Nadja (about 3 or 4 tracks?)
...
The string quartet version of Leviathan = Utter win. I'm listening to Hearts Alive right now.

3.ii. White Chalk - an incredibly underrated album.
6. I like Beware. The last song is one of his best, imo.
7. Desperately want to see them live.
8. American Water.
9. Standard.
10.ii. Got Ys for £4 in danger's CD sale. So gorgeous. 'Emily' is pure poetry in every way. Late to the party, I know.

i'm a bit suspicous at the lacks of plays so far
wasn't there a 100+ thread earlier in the week where everyone said how ace they are? hmmm.
weekday lot maybe?
It'll be fine
There are so many bands on equal plays here. Weird.

1. Hot Damn! kicks some serious arse. I can't stop listening to it.
5. Three members from Dog Fashion Disco, made a new band that sounds quite a lot like Dog Fashion Disco. That couldn't have possibly been a bad thing; and it's not.
7b. Everything about Hissing Fauna says I should hate it, but I really, really don't.
11a. Lateralus might just be the great album I was expecting, only time will tell.
hissing fauna is probably my favourite album ever.
absolutely brilliant from start to finish.
It sounds too much like psychadelic, summery pop in theory
not something I'd usually be too keen on, yet I still think it's pretty darn good.
I never number my top 3
Ehem. I never number my top 3 albums
But they are Kid A, Hissing Fauna, and In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. Everyone is beautiful all the way through.
I've still never heard "In The Aeroplane"
it takes something pretty special, for anything remotely indie/pop to impress me. Hissing Fauna has done though, so maybe...
not a bad week

1. Pretty disapointing, Mike Mogis must be turning in his grave. People that arent conor singing, guitar solos. No. If you delete all the non conor songs then there are a few songs I dont hate that may grow on me (spoiled, white shoes, to all the lights in the window)
2. Only found out the gentlemans pact ep existed this week, in stark contrast to ^ it is great, better than anything on both albums.
5+6 Album of the year? probably
10b I don't see this band mentioned much, which is weird because they sound really accomplished, mixture of surf and dark folk, almost to professional sounding, theyre playing bush hall this week I may go

3 S'okay, I like Glass (great drum sound) and Daniel, much of the rest is a bit 'second-rate Bjork'.
7 The 'Assault On Precinct 13' soundtrack, classic.
10 Very undervalued band, when they stick to psych-pop they're fantastic, not so sure about the more experimental tracks.

4) The album Connectivity! came out in 2006. It has some really good songs. Reminds me of School of Seven Bells.
6)Robert Schneider side project. Unsurpisingly it sounds a LOT like the Apples in Stereo.

3) really ace australian noise rock /post punk stuff. bit like shellac except more minimal and with lots more repetition. kinda hypnotic.
4) DATING COPS
10) annoyed that i didn't get into these guys earlier. only have their debut so far, i intend to amend this soon.
14) really nice, fun electo pop stuff. some of the tracks sound pretty lush too, reminds me of m83.
15a,b) after listening to the van pelt again, i went on a mission to get all the chris leo stuff i didn't already have. not many scrobbles, but they got a lot of mp3 player airtime.
My Disco were phenomenal last night in Leeds.
i highly recommend you listen to Ox Scapula and Scul Hazzards who supported them, they're reasonably similar.

Heard plenty of good stuff for the first time this week: Steve Reich, Pulled Apart By Horses, Zu, Wooden Shjips. Reich is brilliant, I've been mulling over starting a thread on him. I'd recommend Wooden Shjips too, they're quite a bit better than the Pitchfork review suggests.

1 Charlie Higson off the telly's 80s band, signed to 2-Tone for a bit. Absolutely ace, in fact, manic horn-led punk-funk, and their album and some singles have just been added to Spotify
2a New album not as good as the previous one
2b Not "the new Fleet Foxes", Lamacq; however, perfectly fine Felice Brothers/Bon Iver/bluesy growly thing
4b So, so good live these days
6a Can't help noticing the tracklisting has completely changed since the version I got hold of a while ago
9a Muh?
let's just use the same one who gives a crap
1 Astral Social Club 21

Brant Bjork sometimes makes great songs! Other times the lyrics are really bad. But there's a tune on spotify called 'My Ghettoblaster' which is cool. I went to Edinburgh to see Astral Social Club and it was very good indeed. As was Wounded Knee. I wasn't expected a one man disco but that's what we got!
OOIOO?
Oooh
good huh
I like to pronounce like i'm tarzan swinging through the trees
never listened
but i will later. Japan + girls + rock + sideproject is.gd
maybe try Gold & Green
It's got SEAN LENNON on it
Brant Bjork's solo album was £50 on gatefold vinyl in Flashback records
I'd expect to get one of his ears included in the gatefold for that price.
he's selling stuff you could ebay the shit out of on his own site

actually maybe not
there appear to be a few of them floating about
that tune he does with Fu Manchu
The Low Desert Punk. Great tune. Amazing riff.
