Looks like their purple patch is over then - this is absolute bollocks.
Just sound like they've made singles from the catchy bits in Jesus of Suburbia. Can't imagine the album being anything but a massively inferior version of American Idiot. Why didn't they try something different?
the song's shit too - i'm gutted. i have genuine love for green day :'(
however they peaked on dookie, i love slappy hours and the one inthe middle of the two whos name i forget thou. american idiot was cliches poo
I'll give you Warning as a good record, as well as obviously Dookie and Nimrod, but American Idiot is mostly just middle-of-the-road and far less interesting than they wished it was. The lead single ripped off Dillinger Four, the second single ripped off Oasis, the third single ripped off Iggy Pop, and the 'multi-part epics' were just shit.
to listen to any of Green Day's recent albums as they are now poster boys for 13 year old girls.
Dookie however is brilliant
that is just shite. I didnt like American Idiot but this sounds even worse. I loved everything pre-Idiot, especially 'Warning' album.
(i've not heard kerplunk and 100x however many wacked out slappy dappy whatnots, though do remember them being reissued after dookie made it big) the rest of their stuff is ok, they need to change the track.
live though, spot on!
Also seems to be becoming quite a trend, as I, and I almost alone, like the new Em. I guess I just have lower standards!
Oh, and American Idiot is their best album.
Their best album? Fucking hell. Better than Dookie?
Green Day are a band who are dictated by age. If you are not long out your teens you think American Idiot is a great album... but if you're in your late 20's, like me, you can't see past Dookie.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I would actually feel embarrassed to buy the new Green Day album at the age I'm at (28). Is that just me?
I'm fully excited by the new record. What you say about me as someone just out of my teens stands, in this case.
Make no mistakes, Dookie is an excellent record and definitely my second favourite, but I have a massive soft spot for American Idiot which probably does come from being 16 when it came out and playing it to death and so on. I have weighed it up properly though and it is my favourite of their albums.
How I'll feel when 28 remains to be seen I guess! I don't really get embarrassed about music though, so probably not like that.
Do you want to be the minority?
Down with the DiS majority?
Good spot though!
that would be all kinds of nostalgia for being 15
the song sounds really monotonous and rubbish :(
They are still pretending to be in their 20s!
A cartoon version of much better bands that came before them. They make for awkward listening, a load of 13 year old angsy nonsense.
Seriously are they still doing all that teen rebellion pseudo political crap? sure it appeals to the mall kiddies and therefore the bosses at Warner but at their age, it's kind pathetic.
things called 'Know your enemy' might look promising but ultimately end up being bobbins.
Oh and 'Dookie' is my fave for those keeping score.
Aged rock stars that used to be cool punks.
