Vampire Weekend has always done the trick for me when I get bored of everything else I have.
but not one of those bands would entice me to get back into music after a dry spell...
The other three did for me because they were new to my ears at the time and I dug it. If he hasn't heard 'em yet, ya never know!
just blitz a load of stuff you've never heard before, regardless of what your preconceptions of that artist are, you're bound to find something you like.
browse for a random record by a band on a label you know about, but have never heard. Buy it. Listen.
but I used to listen to a lot of the more American folk stuff in that take high ratings in your profile, and I can understand how you got bored of it after a while.
Try something totally off the wall that isn't shoegaze, folk or post-rock. Something that really rocks balls. Something post-hardcore. I dunno, At the Drive-In or Fugazi or maybe something really mathy and fun likd Adebisi Shank or Tubelord or Q and Not U.
I love q and not u but not so keen on the rest, I need something new and wow, probably looking at other genres is a good idea though
The Knife- Silent Shout?
(if you know them already then fair enough, but you probably won't know all of them. Hopefully)
Vessels, Her Name Is Calla, Maybeshewill, UpcDownc, Worriedaboutsatan, Time.Space.Repeat, Grails (although I haven't heard much of Grails, LBC should be able to help you out with this one).
Not all strictly post-rock, but all these bands definitely have post-rock sounds/elements to them, to varying degrees.
seriously please buy my Kill Yourself cd, nobody else wants to :(
