This Nation's Saving Grace by the Fall
Sleazy, lecherous creepy.
by Scott Walker
I'm Spotifying it as we speak. I just nearly shit myself when that 'You and Me against the world' bit kicked in about half way through the second-last song.
a listening experience that I can only call 'harrowing'.
Bjork - Medulla, loads of the vocals are really creepy, especially on ancestors with all those huffy breathing noises :O
niandra la des and usually just a t shirt by john frusciante
it's on spotify
it's one of the most harrowing things ever and my favourite album of all time
Disorientating mix of BBC Radiophonic Workshop cut-ups, sex noise, the lonely side of 60s hippiedom and meetings with The Dark Lord?!
To me, the dictionary definition of 'creepy' (and a great album in the context of proto-electronica).
It's frankly bizarre, starts out bright and chirpy if a little odd, then gets progressively more creepy and dark, like a good horror movie.
Anything else like this that I should check out? I like Silver Apples too.
-A couple of tracks of the self-titled This Heat album (Horizontal Hold/24 Track Loop)...
-The New York Noise compilations (the third volume in particular for some early-ish electronic darkness)
-John Carpenter soundtracks from the late 70s.
-The first Faust album?
-Harmonia Live 1974
-20 Jazz Funk Greats by Throbbing Gristle
-BBC Radiophonic Workshop compilations
I can't recommend this mix enough:

I already have the first Faust record but I'll look into all the others. Have been meaning to grab some Carpenter stuff for a while, I remember loving the Assault on Precinct 13 soundtrack and I also *heart* the Zombie Zombie album which is inspired by him.
Downward Spiral - Nine Inch Nails
The Eye of Every Storm - Neurosis
When I first heard it it did affect me
Trent's still cool.
I shed a tear or two. I was laying on my bed wearing headphones with my eyes closed and had no idea what to expect. I don't have that album yet.
An Evil Heat - Oxbow
Black Earth- Bohren and the Club of Gore
I've only got The Narcotic Story.
This song is from an Evil Heat (with Jarboe): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t15yoGi9A2g
This is probably their heaviest album with lots of heavy soundscapes.
I'd say buy this and Love that's last that is a a good overivew of the past..
Fuckfest is good when placed in context.
Serenade in Red is pretty fine and if you have seen them live you will recognise some ofthe songs from this album
Serenade in Red looks pretty straight up noiserock with Eugene's vocals...was watching a few bits off their stuff on youtube and all that era stuff was a bit less bent than their later work....Cheers, think I'll head for Evil Heat.
Off of Serenade in red that is
i forget what the EP is called, but it sounds completely post-apocalyptic. Its a collaboration between the chap from The Earlies and Micah P Hinson, one of the best vocalists in the world right now. Its on spotify, have a listen - make sure you listen in the right order though!
However, The Drift by Scott Walker is the pinnacle of this without doubt!
Sunn0))) - Black One
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 2 (if you've seen JAM, then you know what i mean!)
The For Carnation - Promised Works
Khanate - Things Viral
Burzum - Filosofem
SWANS - Love of Life
Guapo - Black Oni
makes all the music on it sound very creepy indeed.
I can be pretty creeped out by Cosmos by Murcof sometimes but not on every listen. Sometimes I find it really depressing and others really soothing and uplifting. Ace album.
what's scary about it? Amazing album.
and very passive-agressive.
To Nkroachment: Yarbles, I Am Damo Suzuki and L.A. are terrifying!
scares the crap out of me
I don't find it scary though :)
by Evoken, is not only creepy but extremely bleak, also Xela's 'The Dead Sea' is fairly unsettling as well.
martin grech - unholy
Also, Sigur Ros- Von.
the first two songs are scary as fuck
Capture & Release
I think of those five albums as his heroin fuelled Old Testament. They all make the hairs on my neck stand up from start to finish. After he kicked the habit, beginning his New Testament, he started easing up and putting jokes into the songs.
I've just been listening to it and Jesus Christ, the images it creates are just staggering. And some of them, like the sixth track on the first CD with all the children's voices, just creeps me out beyond belief.
Headphones.Dark Room.Terrifying, mind you, it wasn't a good album.
