About You Now for a start is better than any Girls Aloud song, clearly.
Freak Like Me's better.
and you are right, they are better than Girls Aloud. Easily.
did you know that Richard X first released the version with Adina Howards' original acappella on top of Are Friends Electric? under the name Girls On Top and called it We Don't Give A Damn About Are Friends? Did you?
you can get the Girls On Top collected back catalogue now?!
'Being Scrubbed', 'Warm Bitch', 'I Wanna Dance With Numbers' and 'We Don't Give a Damn...' are all AMAZING.
There's no real contest.
Girls Aloud are shit on toast.
but GA have a higher hit rate and a lower shit rate
GA's albums are far better than the sugababes, and overall the singles are much better. plus about you now is gash.
freak like me has a shout for best pop song of the decade though.
For the first 2, but since the second rearrangement of the act they've lost that certain something that gave them the edge. 'About you now' is one of the most overrated pieces of crap I've heard in recent years.
And don't get me started on that song they did with the chorus "People are all the same..."
It makes Aguilera's 'Ugly' look tolerable.
Even though it was a lyrical and musical convergence of two different songs... this leaves a lot to be desired for the state of pop music in the last decade.
you can just about make out the sound of me not giving a shit.
is awful! If you're going to defend them you could at least start with Too Lost In You
Anyway, GA shit on them from a height.
but Sugababes are extremely patchy. The two singles off their latest album have been dire. Girls Aloud on the other hand, have never released a bad single. (APART from the covers, obviously. Jump, I Think We're Alone Now, I'll Stand By You and See The Day are cack, but that's only 4 out of 22 singles, which is still a pretty impressive strike rate and much better than the Sugababes.)
Also, Girls Aloud's albums are incredible. Never listened to a Sugababes album, but they've never given me any cause to.
my old band did an awesome cover of it.
I don't think either are close to being consistently good, but I certainly rate more Sugababes songs than Girls Aloud songs.
If I'm honest, I would own a sugababes album and there is no way I'd let a girls aloud album near my flat.
I think I have respect for them before their first single! I really liked it.
You've got goooooooooood taste.
(the cramps, not whatever you linked to)
i love it.
i prefer more gilrs aloud songs than sugababes though....
they're both bad in the grand scheme of things
Overload > GA entire back catalogue
calm like a bomb?
I don't like the fact that they increasingly lean on soul, jazz and R&B in their tracks. Frankly the electro-pop sound of GA, influenced heavily by 80's music is far more to my taste - xenomania just kick out great stuff and GA package it well. Moreover, part of what will improve the liklihood of me enjoying the output of either group is gonna depend on how much I am atracted to the girls, and personally, I'm far more attracted to GA than the Sugababes.
Finally 'Freak Like Me' is a good track (though I prefer Gary Numan's 'Are Friends Electric' for nostalgia) but I would go for 'Call The Shots' every time.
I'm sorry for me personally, and that's all this can ultimately come to, GA bury Sugababes.
Saying that, Hole In The Head, Freak Like Me, Too Lost In You and Push The Button are incredible songs. Really don't understand the love for About You Now.
Unfortunately, they don't even come close to Girls Aloud. As someone said, covers aside Girls Aloud have never put out a bad single whilst they have three quite very good albums (Tangled Up in particular doesn't have a duff track). Oh and they are all likeable people with personalities (Nadine aside).
