Anyone into these? Amazing album, when you consider it was made 43 years ago.
is they were still great live until Dave Day's sad demise.
Yeah, I consider myself very fortunate to have seen the original line up, in New York, when they reformed for the first time back in 1999. And seeing them live in London in '06... Something I never thought would happen. They were amazing!
been enjoying these loads on Spotify recently, great album - still stands up really well. It must have blown minds back in the day.
Love that video too, the bass and drum on Monk Chant fucking rip.
Try and get the extended edition if you can - the latter singles were immense. Possibly best thing on there!
the liner notes for the Black Monk Time reissue slate the latter singles for the most part.
But yeah Black Monk Time is pretty great, I picked it up after hearing all the buzz over the reissue and am pleased I did.
their sound is just perfect, the fuzzy bass with the groovy drums and the wailing organ and the sharp guitars, and they all fit together amazingly. Attitude, performance, invention - sll awesome
who was banging on about these a year ago. He mentions loads of shit I dont know and sometimes I follow up on it. In this case I didn't but I saw a review of Black Monk Time in Mojo this month and they gave it 5 stars which has prompted me to investigate. Sounding pretty awesome so far actually.
awesome band. drunken maria is my fave
Then i realized The Fall had covered a few of the tracks.
T'is ace though. A must buy for old skool garage fans. It's on emusic too.
shame about the face.
there really isn't much music i really love before prog rock if i'm honest, i could probably list the bands on one hand but they would definitely be one i love.
this is my favourite song of theirs
tis is pretty sweet (and so is the female lead:)
Shame bout the outfits though..
There's some legendary stuff on Black Monk Time; Cuckoo particularly grabbed me, but apparently they hated it or sommat. Hmm.
I can't remember which one it is, but there's a song on there that sounds suspiciously similar to a Bowie song from a decade or two later. I don't know what that signifies.
I can't remember who put me onto them in the first place, but it was someone on DiS - so, thanks to whoever it was.
got black monk time on the word of some DiSers. well played lads, great stuff (Y)
