but they're top of the list of 'bands who are sooo much better while high'
see also: "bands who make better t-shirts than records, even remix records that are much better than their actual records."
HEALTH basically have it all the wrong way around, except live.
apart from the remix bit...
they are alright but the remixers have done alot better with their own stuff or other remixes on the whole.
HEALTH // LIVE >> HEALTH // T-SHIRTS >> HEALTH // S/T >> HEALTH // DISCO
dems da maths
but otherwise I agree with this choice
I like some of the remixes, I haven't put it on for a while but there are some good ones. Just not as good as the originals and miles away from the live show.
The youtube videos look way more interesting than their record though.
so go see them if you get the chance, its really physical live the sound is intence. I bet you could get a good sound from the CD if you wacked it though a massive soundsystem but the live show is just so viseral and energetic its brilliant!
and Of Montreal. As much as I've tried, I can barely make it through their albums but they're comfortably amongst the best live bands I've seen.
who make great records
but they're not really a very good live band on the whole
sound like a completely different band.
They own live tho.
It's going to be pretty fly.
Kong, Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster (are they still going?), Born Ruffians.
Saw them on Halloween, was fucking incredible. Not listened to their records for ages but i've been to see them every time they tour nearby.
Gaslight Anthem, Gogol Bordello (tho they are fairly solid on record they hit it out of the park live),
Also trawling my memory The Datsuns are similar,
For the opposite I'm gonna be controversial and suggest Rival Schools.
Rival Schools are shit live. Also for controversial I say British Sea Power - love records, live hate them.
were great both times i saw em back in the day
and you're wrong
in two ways. amazing.
possibly my favourite band on record, but live i was massively massively underwhelmed
along with Youthmovies
live its so damn brilliant, I mean I really like the EP and album but the latter got very luke warm reviews that I never understood at all. Live TTNG are so brilliant thought there is masses of energy and they are super tight.
I agree with the above Rolo Tomassi statment too.
for me anyway
- I suspect some of the reviewers didn't listen to the record properly. Many of the reviews did not even notice the best songs. I saw them live quite recently, and it is noticeable that they are building up a good following. They are currently touring in Europe.
I did play that album alot before I worte about it, I couldn't help it, its just really good. Alot more subtle compared to the EP as well. They really come alive in the flesh though.
I put that album in my top 5 of 2008.
that I even bought a copy even after getting it on promo from the legends that are Big Scary Monsters. In fact I got two copys when I saw them live as my sister wanted it too!
well done for buying the album - it authenticates your rating!
I hardly ever buy albums on viynal really I just get stuff for DJing on that format really. Singles and stuff as they are pressed louder and that. It looked a bit good though.
I try and buy all the stuff I really like even if I get given it for reviewing. It feels a bit wrong otherwise, I like to suport the scene a little where I can.
- he just walked up to me at a gig and shook hands and we had a chat, and at the last gig he put me on the guestlist 'cos he read on this site that I had lost my ticket.
I couldn't make it to the last gig in york as I was to skint, my sis went though and said they were brilliant.
I'll get them next time round and see if I can say hi!
can't listen to them recorded.
live however, they sound like a whole new band.
as aposed to a bit shrill and annoying on record. I thought they would be more joyus and fun but I just didn't enjoy them at all I was well disapointed.
locally known as "creepy pete" who basically managed to get gareths goat and get him to strip off and leap into the crowd. so that might have added to the fun of the evening.
I have to say though that I don't like them at all, but I would consider seeing them live again. they just seemed to come off more punk rock than twee live which really worked for them.
I've always thought the production did them no justice at all. I think when I saw them the venue was a bit big, I mean only the front 2 meters or so were going mad for them and the rest was dead dead dead it really drained the vibe out.
lol at creepy pete :D
also, Mono. Records are pretty great, but when they hit it live, it's a whole new plain of brilliance.
I quite like the albums, but live they are totally awesome
I can take or leave them in general on record (that's not to say there's not some brilliant songs), but live they're one of the greatest!
good albums but 2 of the best live bands around right now
I find it hard to believe anyone would listen to them on Record, but live, yes please.
See also Hawk And A Hacksaw: Their records are great, but live a million times better.
but danananananananananananannanananananananananaykroyd is an obvious candidate
are the best live band of all but sissy hits doesn't even come close to the brilliance of them live
I wasn't really into the album 'Rip it off', i still maintain that its far too distorted and lo-fi. But they completely made sense live. They're definitely meant to be heard live.
They are some much more epic live
rather than support the likes of Los Camps! That way aficionados like ourselves could really see what they're made off. They unfortunately have too many detractors at most of the gigs I've seen them at.
Gentle Friendly would be the perfect support.
i'd say the reason was that, live, they didn't obscure their decent pop songs behind a wall of entirely unnecessary noise.
I know the whole point of the record is that its meant to be all lo-fi which i normally don't mind, but i think it detracts from their songs.
thats mastered in america
They sound quite good on record, but it's patchy.
Live they are superb.
on record: good pop band
live: the most fun you've ever had
The Twilight Sad
but seriously, i almost fell asleep!
Broken Social Scene
