It's been said before, but The Horrors album is REALLY REALLY GOOD
Seriously, I don't remember the last time I played a record so many times in such a short space of time... three times today alone... I know I'm gonna hit the wall but, right now, nothing is touching it.

The Horrors
i'm glad you aren't laying into the first album
i still really like it
most anticipated release of the year??
i think so. (apart from SY)
domestically, maybe.
it's gonna surprise a lot of people.
although I just noticed 'Scarlet Fields' flies a little close to 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'...
Will the people who hate the so vehemently still do so out of
pride or a reluctance to admit they were wrong? I've always liked the band so am not that shcoked by how good it is but I can see people saying "Oh so now they're just ripping off Neu and J&MC instead of The Sonics.
I hope not but we'll see.
well i completely despised them
and i think their new song is good
Is "Domestically, maybe" an actual play on "Definitely, Maybe"
or just an accident?
same here
Im loving Sea within a Sea and cannot wait for the album to come out. Although it pisses me off how every band with a gloomy feel and fast tempo beat gets compared to Joy Division.
Do all the songs have him doing that Joy Division vocal impersonation?
I like the new song until he sings. Even though/because up until then it does sound exactly like Can.
I agree
Vocal variety
But he's definitely lifted a t(r)ick or two.
Alright Swindon?
Will listen to it this weekend then
They're shaping up nicely
to become the Pop Will Eat Itself of the 21st century.
deeply intrigued now
ermm...
can anyone confirm that the above has any basis in reality?
salt,wound,rubbing
I need to hear this now.
That free track was outstanding.
Jesus Christ
what in God's name happened to The Horrors? This has gone from passable punky stuff to being down right 'triffic!
drugs, most likely
Nah, seriously, I'm bewildered. That said, they were really pleasant, clued up guys when we interviewed them 2 years back, so I guess we shouldn't be surprised.
I can still remember sitting in Brizzle Academy with them
I can't believe it was 2 years ago :'( oh my youth.
I can't stop playing this track, the last few minutes are beautiful.
You have me even more excited now than I already was...
i'm both excited and bewildered
woo
Does it all sound a bit like Wooden Shjips like the single?
I thought they were really fun at Portishead ATP. And the previous time I saw them as well.
its ace, yup
got this in the post today
Giving it my first listen... loving it so far.
A perfect case of Jade Goody Syndrome
The Horrors were pilloried beyond belief, which was totally and utterly unjustified. To some extent I blame the NME. Their debut album was grossly underrated probably by those who did not even hear the record.
Faris is a extremely talented and cute guy. He kept is head down and his nose clean. The Horrors reward, and for our joy the Bands sophomore effort is shaping up to be one of the best albums of the year..
Your opinion has been stricken from the record for use of the word 'sophomore'.
I've never had a problem with them.
Really liked the first album and when I saw them at Dour a couple of years ago they were amazing considering they played during the day. Bumped into Faris after the set and he was really safe. The song's growing on me. I think I'll enjoy it more when I can hear the CD.
It fucking is as well!
Top stuff.
it is good
Who Can Say is my favourite, I enjoy the Shangri-Las referencing.
Its a fucking joy, that new song.
its a bit like when someone you know goes from being annoying attention seeking nerd to sophisticated gad-about. Really love it, and the video too.
sounds good,
is that a sample of portishead's 'the rip' in there?
where do i get the free download of sea within a sea?
their web page is only playing the video
Just watched some live videos on youtube
Really good, they seem to love music as much as everything that goes with it, whereas before I wasn't sure whether the music came second. I hope they go far.
The guitarist looks very cool with his hair cut.
can't control myself
is so good
Got it today from XL
It sounds pretty good from the limited listens I've had so far. Definitely agree on the JD comparisons, but whereas White Lie's lead singer sounded like he was trying too hard, Faris sounds like it suits him.
furryfan - it was produced by geoff barrows
which is why you may hear a slight third-era portishead influence. the new album is soooo good. I can't say I was fussed by their debut, bought it out of curiosity (I know someone who knows them) and was underwhelmed. This is a complete curveball. I don't think they're ripping anyone off, just have opened themselves up to new influences, new ideas.
Can anyone tell me where I can hear anymore of their new material?
I've bought Sea Within A Sea, but I'm eager to hear more and their album isn't released until May.
It was mixed in my dad's studio.
^_^, First big album to come out of there.
apparently this leaked
apparently...
o
New Ice Age is the weakest track in my view. THe first 3 are vital.
THE AGONYYYYYY
Say what you want about New Ice Age, but you can't fault the delivery of that first line. Something tells me it may have been the first track written for the album...

True my friend, just in the grand scheme of things, it's the most regressive on the record.
'I Only Think Of You' may be my favourite track on the album.
Which makes me feel smug because a few 'critics' sighted it as a weak spot. Shows what they know.
