And only becuase one of the funniest things I have ever seen was my drunk friend trying to sing their song on Rock Band.
Stereolab as well I think.
Trompe L'Oeil has some really great songs on it and it's all in french.
as they speak Canadian French, which can be quite different.
Serge Gainsbourg (he often 'speak' sings, so it's easyish to understand what he's saying)
Amadou & Mariam (French and Malian)
'Lumières Et Trahisons' by Marc Seberg and 'Immobile' by Autour de Lucie.
are one of the BEST French bands. Period. Shame they weren't around for long.
And wheere around from quite some time, even if they only released one proper album.
The singer Daniel Darc made a couple of very good albums too, even if his last two are really poor.
is an English language version of one of their songs by Tunng.
can't go wrong with the classics.
Karkwa Karkwa Karkwa Karkwa Karkwa Karkwa
Doing french a level in the summer myself, good luck!
are a recent favourite of mine and all their stuff is in French. Dunno if metally stuff is your thing - there are a few bits of screechy vocals but they're pretty melodic and accessible - kind of post punk influenced. I like them a lot: http://www.myspace.com/amesoeurs
delicous 60s fuzz pop
aka 'Woelv' aka 'Ô paon' also on the last watery graves of portland record, french canadian
I saw these guys a bunch of times when I did my year in France, loved em.
And there's a naff french version of 'Candy' by Ash.
Ooh and a bit of Stereolab.
early Katerine albums (l'education anglaise, les mariages chinois)
Francoiz Breut (any album)
Indochine (paradize album)
loads of french hiphop
edith piaf, serge gainsbourg, etc
i got an A in a-level french, i think immersing myself in french culture (i listened to all these bands, watched loads of films, put the commentary on pro evo in french, even tried to read political literature in french) really helped. so yeah, good luck.
Micheal Gondry band, but can't find their stuff anywhere
Air maybe? And am I dreaming or does Beruit have a few French tunes?
was not very successful in drawing attention to it at the time though.
And Alain Bashung died last week :-( which no one on here cared about either
has deleted most of it and replaced it with Shaggy. Why do some people insist on being dicks?
bar the pile of Paul Simon songs tagging along at the end. Thanks for the playlist.
Tryo, Zebda and Les VRP are really cool
Manu Chao and Mano Negra, although they sing in a variety of languages (french, spanish, portuguese, english...)
Get that comp, some really cool stuff on it and tis only £3.99
are Stereolab in this thread?
Also Poney Express.
have a few tracks, and I think one album, where they sing in french.
don't know if there's much love for her on here, though.
Trust - Repression , quality album I have it on tape and still listen to it,they did an English language version but avoid it, he spits it out in French http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trust_(band)
- Claude Francois - 'le telephone pleure' (a little fromage. A lot, actually)
- White Lies have done french versions of a couple of their singles
- watch jacques brel on you tube
oh and throw in one imperfect subjunctive phrase, and lots of subjunctives and you can get an A.
Stereolab sings in french sometimes, also Monade.
Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde
To be fair though, its hard to understand wht they're saying due to screaming, so might not work so well.
are in french.
And are good. Though not as good as the rest of the album.
sung entirely in French (they are Swiss after all)
