Electrelane - where to start?

codpieceface [Edit] [Delete] 5 replies 00:26, 20 March '09

i always thought they were a britpop band for some reason, probably confused them with Elastica... Long Dark was just on the radio and was all awesome at me, what record do i grab?

  • My favourite is 'Axes'

its mostly instrumental and more kinda krautrock influenced but i love it. Produced by Steve Albini too and has their great cover of Cohens 'The Partisan' on it.

    • I think Axes is their best album

but it lacks the obvious stand out pop songs like Power Out and NS,NC have. The Power Out is probably the best place to start.

  • I'd reverse that myself.

The Power Out is my favourite, but I think No Shouts... is more accessible. In fact, fuck it, he should buy them both at the same time.

Get Axes, Rock It to the Moon and the b-sides album to complete it, but you don't have to listen to them. Although the b-sides album has some good stuff on it like I Want To Be The President and the cover of Springsteen's I'm on Fire and that spectacular but badly recorded live version of Birds.

    Christ, I love Electrelane dearly.

    • I Keep Losing Heart off Axes is a really lovely song though.

Listen to that when you buy Axes.
