Seriously, tears of joy.
I persume he has a copy from writing to much for post rock magazines...
Everything about it has just blown me away.
return to form?
but yeah it reminds me more of Panopticon and their earlier stuff. The heavy stuff is a lot rawer and the keys/organ work is stunning. Drumming is exemplary as always...
he still making with the clean vocals? any significant progression in sound? silly 'theme' in evidence? does that plank from Tool cock things up much?
Clean vocals = less and better
More melodically complex
Tool guy's not really noticeable but I don't really know what his playing sounds like
The guitar playing plank blends into the Melvins albums he's on fairly nicely
If it's the bass plank with his silly bass sound you might notice
If it's drummer or Maynard abandon all hope now
but it ain't; thank the lord. it's the guitarist... what Melvins is he on?
H.A.T, Pigs Of The Roman Empire and the two Jello Biafra ones. I think he does a good job with the synth on HAT but I can't really tell what he's doing on the others most of the time.
true tool aren't what they are, but he's got some great vocals when he uses them, passenger anyone?
something not be what it is? This makes no sense.
He played on Altered Course from Panopticon and one of the tracks from ITAOT, I forget which.
Adam jones like invented the guitar
i've only listen part way through onc eso far so can't give a proper opinion though.
I heard that there was gonna be less screamy/shouty stuff on this record, true?
Out of 10 so far?
Some very Celestial-esque riffs too.
9/10 so far, could see it becoming my favourite Isis album.
Ghost Key in particular is incredibly good. Time will tell if it's as good as Panopticon...
but its pissing all over absence of truth... and the synths sound amazing
9/10 for me too....
resist this leak with all my might until release day, why are you guys making it sound so fucking good!
I think i'll be caving pretty soon if the thoughts on this are still of the 9/10 variety.
am going to try and resist until the release date, but I already reckon it'll be favourite record of 2009! Mastodon's new should turn up this weekend, get in that should slake my thirst for a while!
I've probably heard one new track actually when I saw them in Sheffield in December, there was a great sounding track I didn't recognise.
By the way - in the absence of truth is all kinds of awesomeness. I always end up defending it on these threads.
Who benefits from these leaks? Seriously?
It feels a bit like getting excited in the build up to Christmas in Mid-Decemeber only to find out half the fuckers you know already opened all their presents in September and are now dismissing them.
I've found myself getting a bit wound up about everyone discussing all the new records I want to hear a month or two before they come out. It sucks all the anticipation away, and when you've actually bought the album and start a thread to go 'what does everyone think?', everyone goes 'there's been a thousand threads on this already!'.
Ditto reviews. Nice to see an 8/10 review of the new Jeffrey Lewis on here but it's not out til the end of April! Talk about encouraging people to download a leak.
Anyway, yes, very excited about this new Isis, especially since I didn't know about it until today. Celestial, Oceanic and Panopticon are all incredible - hope this is a return to former glories.
I just think it would be better to post the review in the week leading up to the release. Builds up a really nice short-term buzz and it means I don't read the review, get excited and then get bored of waiting, download it and then end up not buying it. Which is a habit I got into for a while I'm not fond of and decided to break.
Will probably wait until release day before I listen to the whole thing.
I did like, no, actually love, In The Absence Of Truth, it just couldn't live up to Oceanic and Panopticon. I like the look of what I'm reading here though.
Between this and the new Mastodon it's an awesome couple of months 'metal'-wise.
live they always destroy, but never really excel on albums apart from Panopticon...normally their production is lost in mud. I am looking forward to this release.
i think the production on isis albums is usually fantastic...
yup. compared to the clarity of them live anyway.
but then again (no offense to Matt Bayles as i know him) i never ever really like his sound...
Panopticon really embraced how they sound to be honest. As soon as Aaron started using Telecasters things got better.
Really reminiscent of Oceanic in places, I think this could be their career defining record, it seems to contain elements of all their material to date, and pushed it that bit further.
Not as immediate as ITAOT, there's no discernable obvious building to a crescendo ala Not in Rivers, But in Drops and Dulcinea) which is what I really liked about that record, but a lot more melodic, a little less sludgy and cleaner guitar parts. Needs more time on me but definetly good on the first go.
has this leaked on line then?
