Kind of left me underwhelmed
it has some great songs even if it doesn't match the previous albums.
Don't bother listening to records I know I'll really hate, but I was genuinely excited about that one... shame its total rubbish.
does it offend you yeah
Haven't heard the rest except Los Camp, but I thought it was pretty great.
as far as bands that people think are acceptable to listen to who made releases last year
this a million times.
Some other shit.
"Couleouers" is fantastic, the rest isn't really that great though
"Audience with the Pope" is fantastic, as is "grounds for divorce", the rest much less so
so yeah zapster you may have a point
It's no 'Dead Cities...' but WRONG.
Care for another swing?
Times New Viking
the No Age record has the odd great song (Teen Creeps, erm, probably something else too), but the Times New Viking effort is shite. Some halfway decent tunes, which they completely ruin by burying them in noise for no good reason.
but the most disappointing was This Town Needs Guns with animals. Never has my heart sunk as much in one 40-50 minute sitting.
I really like that record
i even preordered the lp.
that album sucked all the life , danger and appeal out of them.. Huge disappointment.
But I still really like that record. For one thing, it's got more tunes per square inch than their previous efforts.
The worst I did listen to was British Sea Power's Do You Like Rock Music?
I like rock music if it's catchy, passionate and exciting but far less so if its turgid tuneless MOR from a pale shadow of a once-thrilling band who seem to have made a conscious attempt to remove from their music every trace of their previous eccentricity and invention.
I liked, and still like, 'Waving Flags' and 'The Great Skua', but the rest were complete misses.
Pretty much sums up my feelings there too. I bought 'The decline of...' and it still sounds exciting and vital and I can still see why I bought it, even if I dont listen to it much these days. But they have just followed a very common band trajectory:
i.e. Exciting band -> Justified hype -> Recognition -> Subsequent increasingly disappointing albums -> Increasingly less popular -> 'cult' status (= much more boring than before)
Basically if the band emerged today with DYLRM we'd never have heard of them....
is there really any dispute?
I was about to put the cd on in my friend's car (who likes that kind of stuff) yesterday, and he said it's rubbish. So I'll probably never listen to it :)
Cheers for making me look like an idiot, DiS
disgusting record from a band I had defended to the hilt. Fuckers.
By far the worst thing to happen in 2008. Not just in the world of music, generally.
was toss, and Cut Copy and M83 both bored me. But then I loved Seldom Seen Kid, This Gift and DYLRM, so what do I know?
was easily one of my favourite albums of the year... what's not to like?
JUMP ON THE TUBE. JUST TO SEE YOU. MY HEART'S IN A TUNNEL BABY. WHAT CAN I DO?
really sucked harder than any other band last year. i mean the killers fine, white lies, all that shit, but since Los Campesinos had gotten so much attention from media outlets, such as this one, that i thought were vaguely trustworthy they had to be the biggest let down. weak whiney student-y shite. and i don't say student-y to be disparaging towards intelligent music, i say it because they made me realise why the majority of people hate students. faux intelligent, posey crap
I thought the majority of people *were* students??
The Broken Social Scene Presents... Brendan Canning album was easily the biggest disappointment of the year for me.
especially as, to me, the Kevin Drew album was absolutely amazing (if a little over-long)
what's the point? i guess they finally worked it out.
the Guillemots album. Fucking shit.
It was great.
just him and his guitar made "music" from there.
It's only because of these back story that he gets indie points and he became hyped.
Otherwise, his music is not great. Not great at all.
Nothing to do with personal taste then? ok.
I thought about 50% of the album was fucking brilliant, does that mean I only like half the back story?
save a couple of songs
But The Teenagers sticks out. Eurghhhh. Also did not enjoy Los Campesinos, Frightened Rabbit and Nada Surf. Enough negativity.
Will have a lot more worst albums of 2009, I think, because I'm listening to a lot more.
really bored the pants off me.
repetitive, miserable-sounding dirge.
Chemistry of Modern Life was awful. Predictible, messy, pretty boring really.
Its certainly a divisive album. Don't agree though.
the Raconteurs piss poor effort.ooh lets keep it secret as its so shit and goes on for far too long
was boring. boring. boring.
No wonder Andy left
Los Campensinos! (shrill as fuck! horrible listen)
Hotchip (really boring)
Kings of Leon (fucking boring)
Lightspeed Champion (dull)
Wolf Parade (Disapointing compared to the first one)
Broken Social Scene Presents that boring fella... (Think I sad why then <<<<)
Why? (His voice really grated on me after a few months and I grew to hate them)
Death cab for cutie (mostly dull)
Fleet Foxes (Why did I even bother!)
Conor Oberst (Leave the shit bland country alone! and get back on the synths)
Spiriatualized (sounds like Embrace)
Cut Copy (dull indie boy dance with no soul)
m83 (a couple of nice tracks the rest is ummmm dull)
You can see why I'm pretty much telling indie to fuck off this year can't ya.
the Why album is awful. Oh god
Lil Wayne managed to make an album a million times better and more inventive last year and I hates chart rap / r&b before that.
But don't you have a little room in your rao heart for the kanye west?
Kanye's album is alright I guess, but I kinda grabbed T-Pain's at the same time and he pretty much does the same thing but loads better. More hooks, better beats, more tracks, more guests, more skits (ok the skits are shit).
Exceptions: All of Kanye's / Steve's Coffee House
The kanye makes lovely hipmhop.
But I listened to it on a Sunday morning in bed and it was nice
I thought I would enjoy it quite alot but it was all very one paced and didn't really have much about it at all. I was really disapointed.
Its ok I guess a bit like m83 bit... meh
You obviously haven't heard the completely pointless live album, that even fans of the album dislike.
the album of the year according to who?
I'm pretty sure most people have never heard of it...
Its all just so dull and played out and generic, they brought nothing new to the table at all. Its so backwards looking and boring, you may as well listen to some stuff from the 60s n 70s and get more from it rather than these generic impresionists.
I'm pretty srue they have nice beards though thats pretty cool.
...to all those who said NO AGE (that was the best album of the year)
death cab for cutie - snooze-tastic
my morning jacket - crap-tacular
m83 - zzzzzzzzz, nice song, zzzzzzzzzzz
cut copy - bleep boop blip beep wtf?
times new viking - high school jerk off fuzz shit
coldplay - i didn't even listen to it and i know it's terrible
my opinion > your opinion
You're deaf. Just because they're finally getting the recognition they deserve after almost two decades of lovely, heartfelt, LYRICAL beauty, that doesn't mean you HAVE to hate them.
I could be wrong about some assumptions - maybe you genuinely hate the way they sound. Maybe you don't relate because the lyrics mean nothing to you. I don't understand why anyone could hear that band and not love them....BUT, I need to remind myself that there's no such thing as good or bad, only music which is for you or not for you.
With that in mind, this thread is a nun's cunt.
Uniformly have terrible taste.
understanding of the word 'worst.'
fucking... amazingly atrocious. without a doubt.
disappointments... probably british sea power
the last half of the album was dreadful
Really, it was Weezer. I've no idea what they were thinking when they released it.
I can't remember any redeeming features.
Every time a teenager listens to drum n bass a rock star surely dies.
I agree that pendulum are awful. Their album Ive avoided like a very bad plague - however, I think it's dangerous to associate Pendulums racket with real drum and bass. There are a number of very relevant dnb acts on labels like freak and renegade hardware. I love dubstep and dnb and when its done well it is far more preferable to lots of so called rock music. Im in a 'rock' band and my band mates dont perish when I play them techno...
you cloth-eared fucks.
Fucking awful. Mediocre at best. Added to my list. 4/10
it is by Bloc Party.
I must say I don't really get No Age. Saw them a while ago and it was just like Wives but without a bassist. Not heard the whole album tho...
