So Im listening to Ziggy Stardust et al ..... where next?
Just avoid the mid to late 80's stuff. 'Never Let Me Down' is terrible :(
Then cut to the chase with any of Anthony Newley's LPs.
The Man Who Sold The World, Hunky Dory are my all time faves.
maybe a bit heavy if you are just getting into his stuff tho.
and Hunky Dory, but mainly Low
Low and Heroes.
Then go for Scary Monsters and Lodger.
and yeah I would say Low also.
That's Man Who Sold... thru Scary Monsters. This is the greatest artistic span of brilliance in the history of music. It's really easier to say which you don't need. Pre s/t and then Let's Dance forward to Black Tie. Pick it up again with Outside thru Reality if you're still keen.
hunky dory/ziggy stardust.
but i'm really starting to love heroes and lodger.
Great album though, but has to be trumped by hunky dory
is solid gold
and madly varied
Then Station to Station and Hunky Dory. You can't really go wrong with any of his 70's albums, mind you.
Then low and probably ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars
...as Bowie pretty much wrote it anyway and it was his dry run for Low.
But Hunky Dory and Low. Like everyohe else said.
end of thread. next question please.
Best 6 in this order:
Station to Station
But they're nearly all pretty good. Even bad Bowie is still better than most other bands. The first Tin Machine album is worth a listen to as well. No, really.
Blew my head off the first time I listened to it and has been my fave ever since.
Then probably Low. Could it be much different? His 70s stint can't be matched by many.
then probably Lodger
But Scary Monsters is the best.
Scary monsters - easily his best work, by some way. But everything he touched in the ´69 to ´82 was at least an 8. Even Peter and the Wolf.
Low - universally loved, but many people I know who love this record listen to the first half but never the second. Has anyone else found this?
2. Scary monsters
4. Aladin Sane
6. Diamond Dogs
7. Lets Dance
This order changes all the time but these are my favs of his!!
Young Americans. A stone cold classic in my view
I think Time Will Crawl might be the only song I've heard off it and I quite like it, but the word of mouth is so poor... and Black Tie... includes Jump They Say, are you including that as a bad song? Because, like, I'd seriously disagree...
bar Pin Ups (which still has moments), just pick at random and enjoy.
watch that man, fantastic tune.
freaks dude out, above: The original art freaked RCA out, too. Heh. They airbrushed -out the dog's genitals for release. Fans will of big red dog penises will want to hunt this down. Ha!
