this is going to be amazing! anyone else going? at the lexington i think, upset the rhythm night
but I'm living on a tight budget this month and I'm in London tomorrow for Kap Bambino. Although maybe I could do both...
Making up for missing Ponytail last month
Very good triple header that.
Skeletons were really good last year at the Luminaire and they seem like the kind of band that's always evolving so I'm looking forward to them.
I saw Ponytail last month but I've since got new, better ear plugs. It's gonna be great.
very pleased to say that I'm involved tonight
See you there!
I'm really tempted to see them again, but I not sure if that'd be overkill...
then they happened to be in madrid the other week while i was, so i poked my beak in there. tonight will almost be three times in as many weeks. oops.
Seeing Ponytail twice is just good sense. You should go.
seriously, if you're skint, sell whatever you have to in order to go. they were utterly ecstatically amazing last night.
they were INCREDIBLE at 100 Club last month
(i'd be at The Lexington except i have loads to do before heading out to Austin this Friday)
GF - 8.50
S - 9.30
P - 10.20
The other two bands were pretty good fun too.
When leaving the venue there was someone outside saying that Skeletons are playing again on Monday, but they'd run out of flyers. There's a gap on their myspace tour schedule for that day (16th). Does anyone know what/where?
bored me to tears, went on far far too long.
They did have good bits though, buried away in there. Just I'd lost the will to find them after a while.
Ponytail were fucking brilliant though. That I'm 100% on board with.
were very different from what I expected, and very different compared to Ponytail, but then I'm a sucker for endless guitar noodling, so no complaints here.
Not quite as good as the 100 Club show (sound was better, stage invasion + more Molly jumping around in audience) but they're still my favourite 'live band' discovery for some time. Skeletons were half excellent, half mind-numbingly dull (well, maybe 1/3 excellent, mind-numbingly dull) and I thought Gentle Friendly were alright.
Bah, can't type today.
only played one track off any of their last three albums (other songs could have been new or even older, maybe i'm not familiar with the records they're on) and seemed to only play extremely long dirge like songs. felt sort of like they weren't too sure of themselves/were improvising a lot, particularly with the amount of repetition in the lyrics and how long they went on for. hm. gentle friendly were good when the levels were right, bad mixing can make them sound really weedy at times though. and the vocals go out of tune a lil bit.
ponytail were pretty sweet. guitarists are ridiculously good, they get some amazing sounds. think i saw a lot of people of DiS, that fella with the moustache and that trainers guy at least
but assumed it wasnt you cos i thought you were in bristol or something
v. worthwhile trip, short and cheap. A++++
I thought Skeletons were really good. They're kinda almost entirely cerebral - i.e they're really interesting but they're not really a fun dance-y band, which is exactly what Ponytail are. It made for a good evening.
Dustin's 'microsexual' 3-part joke was pretty funny too, I thought. And made for a good intro.
