Just have no love for that kind of music. I'd rather listen to Queen.
did they just become a fake band??
no, i just don;t like them. That is all.
But now, I really couldn't care. I don't hate them, but the sheer amount of bombast irritates me.
& the e band
in theory my type of music, in reatiy- no. and i have seen him/them live. i was really really bored
Just cannot get into them, at all.
but "in life" bit obvious but the killers comes straight to mind
i love MPP, but everything else i've heard by them has been invariably awful.
pointless, no sense of dynamics, no interesting sonic experimentation, formulaic and just straight up shit. baby's first noise band
I think they’re all terrible bands
in all counts Jailbot.
I dont think they're terrible I just don't get it.
I love you.
I like half of one of their songs
their album is borring
Im not gonna try and talk you round but can i have some reasons please? just for the record 'n' shite.
like shouty children. They're just too emo for me but not in a good way.
in some reasoning for the MGMT hating. I'm not a massive fan but they're well harmless surely?
I'm going to have to be boring and say there is nothing I actually hate. Maybe Bloc Party a little bit, I'm more just mystified by people liking them than going 'OH FUCK NO THEY ARE SO BAD OH GOD AAAAHHHH'
Tim on the other hand...
just cannot fathom what people find of interest with these guys. Lyrically apalling, musically predictable and that vocalist needs replacing wiht someone who can, er, actually sing.
Don't get what's interesting about too.
fucking hate that band!
The Stone Roses
But lyrically the Hold Steady are outstanding! The first album is particularly good.
"He said: Hey, my name is Corey. I'm really into hardcore....
People call me Hard-Corey. Don't you hate these clever people, and these clever people parties?"
"We didn't see the Holy Ghost, but the Father and the Son seemed like regular folks, Jesus rolled his eyes when his Dad made Jesus jokes."
Different strokes fer different folks, eh?
Band I hate that other people love:
hmm, i dont mind them, but they do nothing for me and I really dont understand all the love for them, they're just average to my ears.
Plus I was pretty unimpressed after seeing em live.
So, to continue, I'd probably have to concur with The Hold Steady. I just do not get it. And regardless of how good his lyrics or musical arrangements may or may not be, I will never be able to sit through an Antony and the Johnsons song because of that horrible, affected voice.
this is like AA - it's all coming out now!
Never really got that into Muse.
I would say Animal Collective and Johnny Foreigner too, but it seems like everyone hates them after all. Radiozzzzzzzzzzzzzz
The Sex Pistols
i look around incredulously at all of those who have proclaimed them as the saviours of music. To call them poor does a great injustice to the word poor.
but at least i can grudgingly say they have some art to their music...
to be at the front for yeah yeah yeahs at a festival I endured Elbow over TVoTR... ridiculous excuse for a band
Pretty much any metal band
and Amy F***ing Winehouse
Glad to see I'm not the only one who can't stand them. I cringe every time I hear either of the singers' voices.
admittedly about the Los Campesinos vocalists voices, very very bad (bad means bad here not good!)
Johnny Foriegner and Los Campesinos's respective records once each, but they just filled me with a general feeling of meh. Might give them another go.
Radiohead to this list.
neutral milk hotel
all torrid bands yet its me that feels left out and confused when people bang on about them all the bloody time. there needs to be an uprising.
I don't get it. At all.
Scott Walker's 70s covers
Basically everything I like.
Friends of The Bride
in any musical publication, as there are always better bands who have more talent but lack the extrovert tendencies which result in marketing.
I don't despise them, the songs are pretty tight but they really don't seem to warrant the amount of hype they're currently getting, espescially live, then again I've only listened to a fairly small segment of their material so I could be wrong.
I'm not going into it tho, ends up in the MOST BORING conversations ever.
smug, self-indulgent and those vocals, oh dear lord the vocals. Like AIDS entering through my ear drum.
Arctic Monkeys, a band that churns out nothing but angular riffs "aided" by vocals sung in that godawful nasally whine.
Also, despite having endless amounts of love for Interpol, Editors, White Lies and Snowden...Joy Division. Can't stand them. I put it down to the production of their songs, Closer sounds like it was recorded in an empty tin can.
And I'd have said Animal Collective prior to hearing MPP, which to my astonishment I really quite enjoy.
Add to the list...
System Of A Down
The Blood Brothers
re: Los Campesinos and Johnny Cunting Foreigner.
red hot chili peppers
they're utter shitness.
ive really given them a chance but only like 3 songs everything else just seems really "nothingy"
other than a few pretty moments on Sung Tongs, terrible band.
Neutral Milk Hotel
Times New Viking
Hercules And Love Affair
TV On The Radio
the list goes on.
2nd'd on TNV and TVOTR
you hate a pretty wide range of stuff, not that there's a problem with that. Just out of curiosity what music are you into?
I just don't understand. I saw them live, and everyone there seemed to think it was amazing while I stood there wondering what they were listening to, it left me completely cold. The "singer"'s voice is absolutely awful too.
Neutral Milk Hotel
I just do. not. get. it.
What is that shit about?
I also only sort of like Animal Collective a bit and think Fleet Foxes are shit.
(just for refernece: I fucking adore Los Campesinos! and Johnny Foreigner and uh... a LOT of other shit mentioned in here. Hate on.)
Other than Starlight, Muse are mostly shit.
Also I do think Oassi are the worst band ever but I think it'd be innacruate to say that everybody else (on here at least) loves them.
How did I forget that? Above all things, I do not understand how anyone with ears can like Deja Entendu, that is an AWFUL record. I'll stop posting in this thread now, promise.
Can't find something to like in the Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me...which is where they hit their stride.
Kaiser Chiefs, Dirty Pretty Things, Arctic Monkeys
FIRST OFF, Crystal Castles are amazing! J.u.s.t.i.c.e owns too<33. As well as YACHT<3 and Vampire Weekend<33. I don't care what any of you haters say. Eveyone's taste in music is diff. Sooo stfu. You guys think that if you listen to shit other people don't listen to then you're cool. OR if you listen to "old school" shit. You're all just a bunch of posers. Get a life.
Poast of the year quite possibly.
I JUST WANNNA BE DIFFFFFFFFF.
There is no reason for this band to exist, NONE.
There's no reason for any band to exist really.
I come to when I think about it, not by a long way.
And why don't the National have one of these reasons? I'm not quibbling because I'm a hardcore The National fanboy or anything, I just don't think "there's no reason for them to exist" is a very meaningful criticism of a band.
that it was all just personal opinion.
I personally think that we're here to express the fact that we're alive with radical expression - being solid and dependable doesn't cut it for me.
hit this instaead of reply.
anyway, it was going to be an amusing comment about some strange world you live in where everyone loves the ozrics.
i love the ozrics. but i suspect most people don't
Animal Collective - how the hell could you make the Beach Boys more irritating? How is that even possible?
Sonic Youth - I just really don't like them for some reason.
And in my particular circle of friends I'm pretty tired of being told how AMAZING Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree are, wheras I find them both incredibly bland and uninspiring
but I agree, neither blow minds - they're very much at the 'soft' end of art-rock
My Bloody Valentine
Future of the Left
shearwater and all those other terrible terrible middling american bands
I didn't know anyone else liked them - do they fall into this category?!
i don't hate, but think animal collective and of montreal are overrated
are interpol and lcd soundsystem. which proves everyone loves them except me.
i don't really hate any bands because it's just a waste of my energy, but I can't understand the amount of praise some bands like lcd get. I would also put Liars in this category.
well not as much hate as feel entirely indifferent about.
how much hatred someone can have for LCD Soundsystem
had to listen to the album 3 times in a mates car going to ATP.....fuck me i was so depressed after that.....just too depressing for me....they need to cheer up....well they probably are as they seem to be raking it in....
My hate for Muse is enhanced by their fanbase who will often hail them as the 'most exciting, forward-thinking band ever', 'Oh! And they're AMAZING live'
Similar in some ways to Manic Street Preachers. My hate for MSP is enhanced by their fanbase who will often hail them as the 'most political, thought-provoking band ever', 'Oh! And they're AMAZING live'
Biffy Clyro - Baffle me. What is everyone hearing underneath the MOR, over-earnest, Radio 1-friendly dad-rock?
The Beatles - I wish I did like them, cos everyone thinks you're trying to be an against-the-grain-kinda-hipster if you attempt to rattle them off on these sorts of lists.
And where has all this AC hate come from? Everything Sung Tongs onwards has been top drawer!
Agreeing with everything you said up till you started on the Beatles. Fine if you don't like them or don't want to listen to them but to actually hate them? Sheesh.
Is it impossible to hate the Beatles?
The fella below doesn't seem to think so (Good shout with Kings of Leon by the way).
...this only vindicates my first post. Why do people think I'm either wrong or lying if I say I can't stand the fab four?
Whilst I'm at it, I can't fucking stand strawberries either. People seem to have a problem accepting that too.
...it got even more ridiculous with the wildly inaccurate claim that everything by Animal Collective 'Sung Tongs' onwards has been top drawer.
the libertines (anything to do with carl barrat or pete smack head)
THE FUCKING BEATLES
THE KINGS OF LEON AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Future of the left
tv on the radio
but the mars volta is the main one for me. Having grown up with at the drive-in I bought the first record and actually I will admit it's not bad, but that's because it's camp and fun and nothing to do with my mind being opened to new musical possibilities or any of the shit that mars volta fans will tell you (generally speaking, mars volta fans are the kind of people who are impressed by this http://is.gd/dx62U). However with each release (stopped caring after the third maybe?) they continue to peddle the same old 'loosely latin jam/zeppelin riff/awful 80's metal guitar solo/aimless prog rock meddling/the 'sore thumb' amateur ambient section/any variation of one of the first bits but faster' in every single fucking song. Seriously, lady gaga is less predictable. Go wear a t shirt with a ganja leaf and talk to your friends about how if everyone watched 'zeitgeist' everyone would be "more chilled". Fucking Hippies.
are the first band that spring to mind to me - I'm not usually one to get angry about bands I don't happen to like but they really wind me up.
I gave Hidden a proper listening because people whose opinions I really respect were saying they liked it... Normally I love brass and woodwind in contexts you wouldn't expect them in, but I thought they were integrated really, really badly, and as a result the record just sounded fucking horrible. I also can't stand the guy's vocals. Actually, there isn't anything at all I would say I liked about them.
I think I might be the first person to admit that. Just can't stand the music and when I saw them on the Glastonbury highlights I hated them even more because of their stupid faces and hair. Also notable mentions to:
TV On the Radio
Glasvegas (people didn't actually like them did they?)
Times New Viking
The Beta Band
The Who (on paper they should be my all time favourite band but I can't stand Daltrey's voice).
although no doubt around 50% of people who have heard them think they must have an evil unwavering quest to create music as irritating as fucking possible. and they did their best to ruin Janelle Monae's new album
The Rolling Stones
Red Hot Chili Peppers
1. You forgot to include the word NOT, before the word BORING.
2. Your fingers then lost of run of themselves and you surrounded MIA, Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers with a selection of fantastic bands.
what i mean is - i think your list stinks. i dont understand how anyone could think Dirty Projectors or Talking Heads (especially)were boring. But whatevs, you do, that's cool etc
Frankly, an overreaching and troll-y list, deliberately objectionable.
The fact is, none of those bands have truly excited me. So I have cloth ears, big deal, there's other music to like.
Dirty Projectors to me represent a very dull attempt to make art-rock, and the fact they're lauded as saviours when far superior bands operate in the shadows is of slight annoyance to me.
Talking Heads never, ever clicked with me. They may have ideas, but compared to, say, Television, the joy and wonder isn't there (again, my opinion, and I'm not pretending to claim otherwise!)
TH at least I'm prepared to give another chance to.
I'm in such a state of rilation (is it a word? It is now) because I've just seen Dirty Projectors at the Barbican, and its slotted straight into my top 5 gigs of all time.
I think its truly incredible how complex their music is (ridiculous time signature changes, amazing harmonies, all-round superb musicianship) and remains sunny and accessible at the same time. Maybe you would have to see them live to fully appreciate it - I didn't, but I'm not everyone.
I'd (genuinely, not having a pop) like to know who you think are far superior bands operating at the moment. Cos if they really are light years better than DP, then they certainly deserve my attention.
but listening to Bitte Orca I just spent the whole time thinking 'you're not doing this to create a good song-narrative, you're doing it for your own gratuitous pleasure' - the ideas are there but the songwriting isn't, for me.
I'm about to make a Spotify playlist of bands that are a bit like DP but IMO better - art-rock bands who dick around with form and content - but suffice to say that a band called Volcano! are pretty much the leading indie lights in this regard, IMO, and one of the greatest live acts I've ever seen. Here's a link to their frankly mind-exploding debut album: http://open.spotify.com/album/5vHoljZpmr0wP0fPBUvSM9
Really not sure which is best to start with but this one has 'Palimpsests' which is for me their crowning achievement, as well as a number of EXCELLENT art-rock jamz.
Forever and ever, Amen
Thinking cap firmly on, though...
The pissiest, wimpiest band to ever exist EVER, surely? They make me want to bully them.
The Hold Steady are basically Blues Hammer from Ghost World: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfu8Dx0N6uY
Also, Herman Dune. And Sonic Youth. And The Decemberists. Massive, massive apathy.
Florence and the Machine
seriously can't stand them, others bands i hate on
Mumford & Sons
Rage Against The Machine
Kings of Leon
but I fucking hate:
any nu-folk, most indie bands
public image limited
the list goes on forever
Gotta confess though, I do like me a bit of Of Montreal :D
that you would choose to save Of Montreal out of the bands/artists on that list.
I'd also save Dylan, Grateful Dead, some Muse, some Zeppelin, Kiss just coz, and as I know nothing about CCR they can be saved too
They fall into the 'don't know much about folky Americana' camp
so kiss my arse
I love all the other Broken Social Scene afiliates, but theres something about Metric that I really don't understand the appeal
I just don't get it. At all. Her voice isn't amazing, her lyrics aren't that good either. Oh, did I mention that she comes across as a complete c**t? Also: Oasis are terrible too.
The comedy combo Les Savy Fav.
Especially their live show.
still don't like or get the like for them, I mean a couple of their songs.. sure... and I do enjoy the white album. BUT I think pretty much everything else is either mediocre or bobbins! Everyone looks at me like I'm an alien when I say this or mention this but The Beatles are overrated beyond comprehension, I can see why they were HUGE at the time and so important but by today's standards they don't cut the mustard.
that's just being ignorant, they influenced bands but it's not like the weren't other bands doing a similar thing at the time.
...that they redefined what a band could achieve, both commercially and artistically, and these are metrics by which (amongst others) we measure the quality of bands to this day. I don't think that influence can be "overrated beyond comprehension", even if you don't like their songs.
Incomprehensibly massive but to my ears they're just a pub band with a ropey-voiced frontman. Friends of mine assure me that they were most important band of all time however.
and for that, fuck you all
for my birthday. when i said i hated them, he said he thought i liked that kind of stuff.
it actually hurts my soul that anyone i know thinks i enjoy the music of glasvegas.
Didn't get them at the time, assumed I was too young. I don't get them now, assume I'm too old.
This thread has a hazy definition of 'everyone'
that harp playing woman
lilith fair-type shit
warped tour-type shit
...it'd be easier to say who I liked.
Kasabian (smug bastards whose last 2 records/live performances clearly illustrate they don't deserve the popularity/success they've had. And they sacked the one who had the talent.)
and Vampire Weekend too.
They're so fucking boring
those bands that get so much airplay and media coverage that they unwelcomely invade my day to day existence to such an extent I despise them, and all the inane wankers who dribble on about their "genius"
Kings of Leon
