whos going?! im so excited! also does anyone know who is supporting?
The Acorn are supporting on the whole tour, but as I recently got an extra e-mail warning that the arena opens at 6pm for the Wembley gig, I can't help thinking they intend to shoehorn an extra act in for this one...
but gigs tend to finish earlier there to ensure everyone can get home on the tube. Other gigs have been opening @ 7 (with the Acorn at 7.45) and finishing at 11 so might not be much time left.
Anyway, wish I was going (despite it being Wembley) but went to Brighton instead, was a top gig :-)
A little worried by what you say about gigs starting at 7.45 though since i can't get there til 8?
really looking forward to it. Hate to sound like an idiot, but I am really hoping to hear a few older songs in an arena. Crazy seeing Elbow in an arena!
I saw them in Bristol tonight and if you want old songs, you'll be going home happy. Three songs off the first album, one of which I haven't heard them do in a very very long time.
I'm, er, seeing them three times this week. I got tickets for the Wembley gig as it was a one-off and I thought "Ah! Trip to London". Then they added a full tour and I can walk to the Bristol one so I wasn't going to miss that.
Doing Newport (on Thursday) in the middle of that seemed a bit indulgent, what with me not having that much money, even though it's only 30 minutes away. Until I got the opportunity to do the mailing list stuff for it. So if someone asks you for your e-mail address outside Newport Centre on Thursday, say hello. That would be nice.
The Acorn were great too.
Hopefully Bitten By The Tailfly will make an appearance.
...regarding my promise of three old songs. The rarely played one I referred to (Any Day Now) got dropped at Wembley but we got Forget Myself and The Fix in its place so all wasn't lost.
For anyone who didn't get there super-early, the night started with their string quartet playing classical music (and a few Elbow songs) on a platform in the middle of the arena. Which I thought was nice.
Fair play to the new Wembley Arena too, incidentally. It looks the same as the old one, but at least in the new one the sound's good.
Anyway. The main point of all this is that Elbow managed to jump to arenas without jumping the shark. And all the films and screens and stuff (which they didn't have at the other shows) were great.
