Perfect album... anyone agree?
Give us a new album Joanna!
A great album, one of those rare records that you have to suspend your disbelief and choose to be part of its world. I can see why some people think it's hard work, but I for one think it's well and truly worth it.
its such a beautiful album, I've not put it on for ages though. I think it kind of has the odd lul in it and tails off at some points, it's not perfect to me but its so damn nice it doesn't really matter.
to help me drop off to sleep.
I was always asleep by the final tracks.
I had to listen durring the day while it was sunny and I was wide awake to get thruogh it all. I can't get over how beautiful some of it is though it really does tug at your heart strings with some of the mellodies.
I found it to be incredibly sad, uplifting, poignant, emotionally literate, poetic, cryptic and crystal clear all once.
10/10 as per my review on here :)
tis a good un, nice work.
I will have to dig it out again soon its been a while.
But it's a bloody great album, especially Monkey and Bear. And Bill Callahan's entry on Only Skin.
It's true, a new album sometime this year would be great. Fingers crossed.
I'm also desperate for a new album
someone said this on her forum but I'm not sure if who said it would even know such things
"I have an inside scoop that she's recorded a ton of new material (17 full songs is the word), and she's working on which ones will be on a new album."
but 17 FULL SONGS!
But this was a once-in-a-lifetime masterpiece.
but I love some of the new songs already.
Can't wait to hear them properly recorded
It was much more straightforward, and more piano based from what I remember. They were good songs, though.
but i preferred the first album
saw her at latitude. she was probably one of the best acts of the weekend
have never gotten over it really
but it is still great, the new songs she played at sommerset house however were unpromising
i kind of miss the j-no. hopefully she'll come back soon with something new and great.
Then I heard Emily live and nearly cried.
although I do prefer Milk Eyed Mender. I also intend to marry her.
Where she can go from her first 2 albums... but hopefully the next is as good.
I don't think i've ever been so instantly amazed and shocked at a progression from one album to the next.
The only slight weakness is the dip towards the end, it's not massive, and Cosmia would be a career defining song for most artists. But after Only Skin (One of my 20 favourite songs of all time) it seems like a drop in quality.
Can't wait to see her live again too.
despite what lots of people think, to all that play it when its clearly an upbeat party atmosphere.... thats why I always tell to shut it off, its for solitude beauty!!!!! IM LOOKING AT YOU! And you know who you are!
with some other people I read an interview where she said she had some other stuff going on right now. Not like she would ever abandon her amazing solo stuff. She must now she is amazing.
you ruined my enjoyment of that chorus!
made other singer-songwriters seem silly and ordinary and trite by comparison. i haven't really liked a singer-songwriter-y album since.
her live performances recently have been all 'peter, paul and mary' and i haven't really been able to watch them.
still, Ys is amazing so i shall have faith.
