Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck meeeeeeeeeeee... amazing.
I hate when you do threads like this, you cockteasing bastard
Safety wink, etc.
I do not have it as such - listening via some super secure stream.
It's rocking to the tune of a solid, maddening-prog, meandering riffery, epic vocalised 9/10 first listen.
One track is 13 minutes long.
People are gonna shit themselves when they hear 'The Last Baron'
i can't fucking scrobble it and do the bragging via last.fm!
I don't usually buy albums when they first come out, I think I'm going to make an exception for this, Blood Mountain was pure gold.
and arguably their worst full length
the track on their myspace from this one sounds *crack*ing
i wasn't sold on the vocals at first
I DON'T LIKE CHANGE
When does this bad boy come out?
I couldn't fully get into Blood Mountain. It seemed to lack the ruthless conciseness and pace of Leviathan. Have they scaled back the prog wankery or expanded upon it?
I watched a video on YouTube of them in the studio where Brent was saying stuff like how they want to do guitar solos and stuff and wanted to do put classic rock in with all the insanity and intensity. He was saying that he loved doing guitar solos but the other Mastodon albums were just too fast to solo on. There was even a clip of him with - gulp - an acoustic guitar. But there were plenty of other shots where he was massively shredding.
Then there was a couple of bits with Bill sitting before a tonne of Star Wars memorabilia going "...and then this song is like 'BADADADA-BUM-BUM-BUM-BRADADADA-BUMBUBUBUBUMMM'" and stuff, and showed you him doing that and it was sick.
I wish I could link to it, but I can't get on YouTube just now. It would probably have been easier and made more sense.
for me Mastodon was always the Brann Dailor show and I liked it that way. Know your place Hinds - just because you've got tattoos on your face doesn't mean you're the boss now.
I got the free Crack the Skye t-shirt, It's awesome!
you've not even heard the record
When the albums leaked without the epic last track! decided against a download until it does fully leak. Ive preordered the super mega 3d version of it. Cant wait.
cannot bloody wait!
I preordered that one. Looks quite a treat!
but as much as I love Mastodon I can't afford to go spending $40 on one album so I'll stick with the regular 'special' edition cd/dvd set for a tenner
first album and ep were great, then all the classic rock and ozzy-esque vocals ruined it. GET BRUTAL AGAIN.
you will all disagree cuz youre all indiez
but am wary that people will think I'm being all metaller-than-thou. It's true though! Leviathan was still great, but they lost me with Blood Mountain.
I just listened to 'Divinations' and tbh it is pretty lame. What happened?! Sure, it's better than any of your mainstream kiddie-metal offerings and it's got a nice soaring chorus or whatever if you like that kind of thing, but where's the aggression and the frantic, galloping urgency that made them great in the first place?
The vocals are indeed truly horrible now, especially on Hinds' part. Actually no, both of them sound lame. Shout, you pansies! Also anyone that plays a Flying V needs a serious kick in the dick.
good work on the swarm of lotus pluggage...
It's the same story with Fear Before The March of Flames and their fans wankery over Art Damage, when The Always Open Mouth is clearly miles better, but apparently it's not 'brutal and straight up heavy' enough. It saddens me that albums seem to be given far too much credit for simply being brutal, I like to see something a little different from time to time. Blood Mountain was absolutely superb IMO, I wouldn't change a single thing about it.
....i love all kinds of non brutal music, and i love bands evolving, taking in new sounds etc - but when you set out your stall in such a brilliant way as mastodon did and then get weaker and weaker, its disheartening.
he's a wind up merchant
idiots have all the fun
about this not being heavy enough - http://www.viceland.com/music/2009/02/an-interview-with-mastodons-brent-hinds/
The next album is already written and is 'borderline death metal', so give it a bit and let them get their groove on in the meantime!
it just won't *get* a review not
i pre-ordered this morning. divinations is as good a 'single' as anything on the last two records, good news.
