do you think you'll go see Micheal Jackson?

meths [Edit] [Delete] 34 replies 10:19, 5 March '09

if he announces today this O2 residency today that is.

i dont think i will. never been a massive fan, but surely its gonna be a bit depressing for the real fans to see him all old and and shit huh?

having said that, Jackson fans will probably love it. are they the most crazily defensive fans in the whole world or what?

  • I was talking to my work colleagues about this today

Think about it this way. Michael Jackson in terms of singing and prancing about is quite old now. When he made his best music he was a young buck, he could pull the moves, he was in his crotch grabbing prime. All the music he's made since then has been rubbish, and not very energetic. I can;t imagine watching a bloke of his age trying to emulate his mid 20's being much good.

On a side note, i watched some footage of Moonwalker on the megadrive today and laughed out loud when i remembered the aim of the game was to dance about saving children.

  • I want to go

As long as he doesn't charge stupid ticket prices - and I know he needs the cash so he may well ;-(. I still love the tunes but he's 50 so can't imagine him throwing the shapes like he used to. He always mimed anyway so I bet he will at these shows, wouldn't be nice to see him wheezing between dance moves...
But yeah! I do want to go

    aharpigeon | 5 Mar '09, 10:35 | X
  • He made some of the best pop music ever, once

but I really don't know if I could see through all the nonsense to buy tickets.

      • haha

*points at cap and tshirt combo

        stumbeleine04 @davoirgoir | 6 Mar '09, 09:50 | X
  • He's only 50/51 - same as Prince

If he's still in good shape he can probably still cut it. I'd like to see Rod Templeton and Quincy Jones there as well though, shouting at him from the sidelines

    clarker | 5 Mar '09, 13:25 | X
  • Word it the cheapest tickets

    are £75.

    roastthemonaspit | 5 Mar '09, 13:28 | X
    • it = is

      roastthemonaspit @roastthemonaspit | 5 Mar '09, 13:28 | X
      • haha

        what a joke.

        meths @roastthemonaspit | 5 Mar '09, 13:33 | X
        • I heard that'd be the price aswell

donno if it's just rumours though, but he's got the kinda fan-base whom'll travel across continents just to see this, so they'll sell out really quickly. Plus doing just one venue is not a bad idea for him as I very much doubt he could handle traveling around playing his show. But either way although I like thriller and recognise it as a great record. I wouldn't wanna see him live.

    • Hell Yeah!

      ugufudus | 5 Mar '09, 13:28 | X
    • all of

his live performances in the last 10 years or so have been a complete joke.... so unless i somehow get to go free, i doubt it.

      Jamie_Summers | 5 Mar '09, 13:35 | X
      • i didnt know hed played in the last 10 years?

im probably wrong like haha i saw him in 1988 and 1991 or 92 both times he was good haha i was aged 8 and then 12 though so maybe if i was older and wiser it might not have been!

        fistyness @Jamie_Summers | 5 Mar '09, 14:50 | X
    • It is reported that he is to make 5 million per show

Im undecided, if this is true, ticket prices will be sky high
black or white live would be good..maybe

      Scatterheart1985 | 5 Mar '09, 14:54 | X
      • he's gonna be at the 02 in one hour

making an announcement, anyone can go and watch if they like.

        weird.

        Jamie_Summers @Scatterheart1985 | 5 Mar '09, 14:55 | X
        • its the x factor live show at the o2 tonight

          kids watch out

          Scatterheart1985 @Jamie_Summers | 5 Mar '09, 14:58 | X
    • He's not too old admittedly

BUT at the grammys / brits / some other thing recently he half managed to stand up for one track and then went off breathless.

I know he's got time to train, but I can see it being all ballads and big setpieces with him being quite stationary throughout.

      vamos | 5 Mar '09, 15:07 | X
      • That stuff was all just an act though to

make everyone feel sorry for him, during "the incident"

        JimmyHuntspill @vamos | 5 Mar '09, 16:02 | X
    • I doubt he'd have the bollocks to just stay stationary

Can you imagine - the crowd would go mad, if he's going to do the shows he'd have to train and there will have to be dancing, thats one of the reasons people would go

      aharpigeon | 5 Mar '09, 15:29 | X
    • you can watch it online here

      http://www.michaeljacksonlive.com/watch.php

      sean | 5 Mar '09, 16:12 | X
    • well, at first I thought no way...

Then I started thinking how weird it is to see his face printed on paper and thought if I could get good seats this could be very strange and fun... if not just to see his face in real life

      ScarletSpider | 5 Mar '09, 16:42 | X
    • I was thinking about this earlier

And really can't imagine many people wanting to see this, apart from for the freak show element. If it was because of that, then I doubt people would want to pay silly money for a ticket. I'm not sure it'll sell out.

      kittysaur | 5 Mar '09, 16:48 | X
      • Are you kidding?

His first real live dates in 13 years will sell in a trice to his legions of superfans from around the world

        clarker @kittysaur | 5 Mar '09, 17:16 | X
      • Have you ever come across any Michael Jackson fans?

They make the most committed indie elitist look like a Hoosiers diehard.

        simon_t @kittysaur | 5 Mar '09, 17:46 | X
    • 'cunts are still running the world!'

      that would be amazing.

i want to go, i don't know if it will be good but having given prince a chance and found him to be COMPLETELY AWESOME, i am in theory willing to give MJ the benefit of the doubt too. plus i just really want to see him do 'bad' and 'the way you make me feel'. and 'earth song' will be funny as fuck, undoubtedly.

but it's so expensive! not sure i can bear to spend that on a ticket for one gig.

      -gen- @waterslide | 6 Mar '09, 10:15 | X
    • shit press conference

this is it...he couldnt string a decent speach together

      Scatterheart1985 | 5 Mar '09, 17:42 | X
      • he looked and sounded like a fragile empty shell of a man.

i'll be very impressed if he makes it to july and these shows turn out to be worth seeing

        afterskoolklub @Scatterheart1985 | 5 Mar '09, 17:48 | X
        • even at his peak

aintree racecourse wembley etc in the 88 era no one had a particularly good word to say about him live. and since the whole tv-show-where-he-held-his-nose-throughout live performance thing in the late 90s... wild horses couldnt drag me.

          cliquester @afterskoolklub | 5 Mar '09, 23:43 | X
    • who was that guy pretending to be Michael Jackson ??

He sounded like Tom Waits !!! He was 9 foot tall and cocky. Was he a basketball playing impersonator? I think so !

      GFontaine | 6 Mar '09, 11:03 | X
      • that guy on the tv?

It didn't even seem real. The posing and the 'I love you so much', the vivid red background, the screaming middle aged dudes...

My friend texted me to see if I wanted to go but no! Especially since you can go to a three day festival for less than the price of the cheap tickets

        mug_mug_mug @GFontaine | 6 Mar '09, 11:32 | X
    • He said that he's gonna play the songs the fans want to hear...

...does that mean we'll hear Stranger In Moscow, Who Is It and Off The Wall in its entirity?
