I thought arcade fire were meant to be nice. however - I can believe they may be pompous. I think I'm coming out on Coynes side based mosty on that picture (Coyne = happy go lucky, Win = sultry, taking himself seriously) - lets hear Win refute!...
and thinking just the opposite...but t'wasn't Win Butler. And after that overblown *pompous* mess on Neon Bible, they could probably use a reality check.
worst war ever
I can't imagine he'd say anything bad about anything unless he really really meant it. Maybe Arcadre Fire said no to bit parts in Christmas on Mars?
I'll see what he thinks
I love both bands. If it came to a ruck, however, I would stand strong with Coyne any day. FIGHT!!!
therefore he must be right.
To be honest having never met any of the Arcade Fire or even read that many interviews with them(Not recently anyway)it's impossible to say but I certainly wouldn't be suprised if they took themselves incredibly seriously.
Like Wayne doesn't take himself seriously.
and bragg was talking about a table tennis tournament he had with win butler, sounded like butler took it a bit too seriously. chances are that if he takes ping pong too seriously, he takes himself too seriously as well. on the other hand, all artist are egotists to some extent so this strikes me as a fairly stupid tiff. however, i like flaming lips a bit more than arcade fire, so i'm on coyne's side.
with regards to basketball rather than ping pong
that said, being competitive in sporting matters isn't a crime
(i like Arcade Fire too, though not quite as much as The Flaming Lips... but that isn't really the point here, is it?)
nowhere near as much as i like The Flaming Lips
I fucking hate when folk in bands start moaning and bitching about folk in other bands, it just looks dead pathetic. Everyone goes on about how nice and friendly and genuine Coyne is, but to me he just sounds like a bitter old crank. He sounds like he's taking himself as seriously as Arcade Fire. If you have a beef with a band, fight them backstage, face-to-face, instead of in some shitty magazine, then let the press pick up the gossip.
I've not read it yet mind...
I reall ywant them to go full on grime war about it, you know make songs really quick dissing each others bands and stuff. Then go live on the radio for a full on head to head jam session with the listeners desidign whos won.
I wholeheartedly agree. Where does it get Wayne Coyne by saying that he thinks Arcade Fire are a bunch of twats? Nowhere. I like both bands but for fucks sake, shut up and sing, I don't give a shit what you think of another band but I do give a shit about your music. So wind your fucking neck in and make some more excellent music.
YOURE A TWAT!
and he got a photo with them and spoke with them for a bit and has always said they were super nice.
balls Wayne Coyne has and they can duel it out on top of 50,000 fans.
Wayne Coyne is a burnt out hippy that got it lucky with a cupla nice tunes, and Arcade Fire (despite me liking them since 2004) are earnest, pompous bullshit to the extreme now, really horrible. I remember Nicky Wire of MSP reviewing them and saying how much he dislikes them, basically because they seem like they're preaching to us about shit we already know. I agree. And their chord progressions and melodies are really simple and near retarded. Fuck em.
Fuck them both, they're not up there wit the greats.
"their chord progressions and melodies are really simple and near retarded. Fuck em. "
FUCK OFF. Simple stuff, given an acid twist cause you haven't they haven't had a new idea in twenty years.
i adore both bands :(
but The Flaming Lips released four of the very best albums of the 90s, and The Soft Bulletin IS in an objective a way as possible, one of the best albums ever released without doubt. That said, I reckon the records have tailed off since The Soft Bulletin, and that was 10 years ago. Still, one of my top 10 bands of all time for sure.
Hit to Death, Clouds, Transmissions, Zaireeka, and Soft Bulletin are all amazing Lips albums from the 90s. I always think Stephen is the brains behind the music though, and Wayne is the Zaphod Beeblebrox of the operation.
Maybe a little unfair of me.
You know you're in the shit.
... like Nicky Wire for example. Ha!!
From the P-Fizzle: 'UPDATE: Final Fantasy's Owen Pallett has entered the fray! He Tweeted (is that a word?): "Win might not be all hugs and rainbows and kittens, but neither is he drug culture, confetti, pot paraphernalia and bullshit." Ooohhhh!
(...Aaand now he's removed that Tweet.)'
This is literally the best thing ever :')
i'd like £10 on wayne coyne, and maybe a sneaky £2 each way on the edge.
what a dick
Aligning yourselves with your favourites, like a playground scuffle.
a few times and Win was a bit of a narky prick, still great shows though. Think Win was right in his response, Wayne Coyne is a legend and I think anyone in music would be gutted if he started slating them, especially if he hadn't really met them properly.
oh, and this:
a few times, win was a bit of a narky prick, but i can understand why he appears gutted in his response. Wayne Coyne is a bit of a legend but if he's barely met Win/AF then why lay into them?
i thought my post was lost so re-wrote it!
